Buy the PS5 Pro versions if you play mainly on a television and want the cleanest image, ray tracing, the largest performance reserve, DualSense features, 3D audio and shorter loading. Buy the Switch 2 versions if handheld play is a deciding feature. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 are the strongest Switch 2 ports because both target 60 frames per second in docked and handheld play. Resident Evil 4 is playable on Switch 2, but its softer textures and blurrier nearby detail are easiest to see in handheld mode.
All three remakes are available digitally on Switch 2 from October 16, 2026. Physical editions are scheduled for January 29, 2027. The best purchase therefore depends less on the game list—both systems receive the three remakes—and more on where you play, how sensitive you are to image-quality compromises, and which campaign fits your time.

Quick verdict: the right version for each remake
| Game | Switch 2 recommendation | PS5 Pro recommendation | Why the choice differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resident Evil 2 | Strong choice for players who want handheld or flexible docked play. The port targets 60 fps in both modes, with consistent performance reported during a full playthrough. | Best for a large 4K HDR television, ray tracing, DualSense features, 3D audio and shorter loading. | It is the most balanced game in the group and the safest Switch 2 purchase, but it has no gyro aiming or mouse mode. |
| Resident Evil 3 | Good fit for portable action. It targets 60 fps in docked and handheld modes, with only barely noticeable drops reported. | Best if you want the cleanest presentation and the most performance headroom for set pieces. | Its roughly six-hour campaign makes it the shortest and most action-focused option. |
| Resident Evil 4 | Buy it for portability, not for visual parity. It is the most technically compromised Switch 2 port, especially in handheld mode. | The preferred version for image quality, texture detail and stable performance during the larger game’s demanding scenes. | Hair, foliage, nearby objects and textures show the Switch 2 downgrade more clearly than in RE2 or RE3. |
If you are buying only one remake and do not need handheld play, choose the PS5 Pro version of Resident Evil 2 for the most even introduction to the series. If you will actually play away from the television, choose Resident Evil 2 on Switch 2. Pick Resident Evil 3 when you want a compact, action-heavy campaign, and pick Resident Evil 4 when the game itself is your priority and portability outweighs visual compromises.

The safest answer to “Do the Switch 2 ports have the same content as PS5?” is that the three core remakes are coming to both platforms, but the available information does not provide a complete, itemized comparison of Deluxe and Gold extras with every PS5 Pro package. Check the store description for the exact edition you intend to buy rather than assuming that a subtitle such as “Deluxe” or “Gold” contains identical bonuses across platforms.
How the platforms differ in practice
Television image quality
PS5 Pro is the television-first choice. Capcom’s PlayStation 5 support information for Resident Evil 2 lists a 4K HDR mode at 60 fps, or a 4K HDR mode at 30 fps when ray tracing is selected. That gives a TV player a clear choice between a faster presentation and a ray-traced image. The same support information lists platform features that are absent from the Switch 2 review reports: adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, 3D audio, ray tracing and shorter loading.
Switch 2’s advantage is not a claim of matching that presentation. In RE2 and RE3, the important success is consistent 60-fps-targeted play in both docked and handheld modes. On a large display, the PS5 Pro’s cleaner image and additional effects are easier to appreciate, particularly in dark rooms where lighting, reflections and texture detail carry much of the atmosphere.
Handheld flexibility
Switch 2 is the only choice if you want to continue a campaign away from the television without buying a second version. RE2 and RE3 are reported to maintain their 60-fps targets in handheld mode, so portability does not require accepting a fundamentally different pace of play. RE4 remains portable, but its compromises are more visible on the smaller screen: textures are softer, nearby objects can look blurry, and hair and foliage reveal the downgrade.
Controls, sound and loading
The PS5 Pro version of RE2 has documented support for adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and 3D audio. Those features can make weapons, environmental effects and positional sounds feel more immediate when you use compatible equipment. Capcom also lists shorter loading for the PlayStation 5 version.

The Switch 2 RE2 review reports no gyro aiming and no mouse mode. If motion aiming or mouse-style precision is part of your preferred control setup, that omission matters. The available Switch 2 reports do not establish equivalent feature support for the PS5 Pro versions of RE3 and RE4, so do not assume every listed feature applies identically to all three games.
Performance headroom
A frame-rate target is not the same as an unrestricted guarantee. Hands-on reporting found RE2’s Switch 2 performance “delightfully consistent” at its 60-fps target in docked and handheld play, including higher-intensity action. RE3 also targets 60 fps, with drops described as barely noticeable. Those are strong results for portable versions, but PS5 Pro still has more hardware reserve for higher image quality, ray tracing and demanding scenes.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteRE4 exposes the difference. Its larger environments, denser scenes and more complex materials place a heavier load on the hardware. The Switch 2 version remains a viable portable game, yet the PS5 Pro version is the safer purchase if you want the least visible compromise during exploration and combat.
Resident Evil 2: the best all-round comparison
What makes RE2 the default recommendation
Resident Evil 2 is the best starting point for newcomers and the most balanced recommendation for this hardware comparison. Its campaign structure combines exploration, puzzles, backtracking and combat, so the game benefits from both a stable frame rate and a clear, detailed image. A TechRadar reviewer completed Leon and Claire’s stories and spent more than 20 hours with the Switch 2 edition, reporting consistent 60-fps-targeted performance in docked and handheld modes.
That makes RE2 the Switch 2 port to choose when you want the complete remake experience in a portable format. You can play a longer session on a television, suspend the system and continue elsewhere, or use handheld mode without accepting the obvious softness seen in RE4.

Reasons to choose PS5 Pro instead
- You primarily use a large 4K HDR television and sit close enough to notice texture and lighting differences.
- You want the option of 60 fps without ray tracing or 30 fps with ray tracing, as described in Capcom’s PS5 support documentation.
- You value adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, 3D audio and shorter loading.
- You want maximum performance reserve rather than a successful portable target.
- You prefer a controller setup without the Switch 2 version’s reported lack of gyro aiming and mouse mode.
Who should buy the Switch 2 edition
Buy Switch 2 RE2 when portability changes how often you will play. The practical benefit is not merely a smaller screen; it is the ability to fit a substantial, exploration-heavy campaign into travel, shared-room or bedtime play while retaining a smooth target in both modes. Its main trade-off is feature and presentation parity with the PS5 Pro version, not a reported collapse in frame-rate performance.
Resident Evil 3: the short, action-focused option
Campaign length and design
Resident Evil 3 is the quickest way to sample this group. TechRadar describes a campaign that can be finished in about six hours, with fewer puzzles and a stronger emphasis on running, shooting and set pieces. That shorter structure can be an advantage if you want a focused weekend game rather than RE2’s longer investigation and repeat exploration.
Switch 2 performance
The Switch 2 version targets 60 fps in both docked and handheld play. Reported drops were barely noticeable, which makes RE3 a particularly sensible portable purchase for players who care more about responsive action than maximum texture detail. Its game design also suits shorter handheld sessions: you can move through a set piece or combat sequence without committing to a lengthy puzzle route.
Why PS5 Pro can still be better
PS5 Pro remains the choice for the cleanest image and the greatest performance headroom. The difference is less about whether RE3 is playable on Switch 2—it is—and more about whether you want the strongest television presentation for its effects-heavy action. If you already own a PS5 Pro and do not need portability, buying the Switch 2 version gives up visual reserve without adding a benefit you will use.
Who should choose RE3
- Choose RE3 Switch 2 for a portable, action-led campaign that targets 60 fps.
- Choose RE3 PS5 Pro for a television setup where image quality and effects matter more than mobility.
- Choose another game first if you want the deepest exploration or the longest campaign; RE2 supplies more of both.
Resident Evil 4: the biggest Switch 2 compromise
Why RE4 is technically harder to port
Resident Evil 4 is the most ambitious and, for many players, the strongest game in this group. It also places the greatest technical demand on the portable hardware. Tom’s Guide identifies the Switch 2 version as the most compromised port of the three.

What you will notice in handheld mode
The clearest differences are visual rather than a single catastrophic performance problem. Textures are noticeably softer, nearby objects can look blurry, and hair and foliage expose the downgrade. Those details matter in RE4 because its environments are larger and its action frequently puts characters, vegetation and objects close to the camera. On the smaller handheld display, the softness may be less distracting at normal viewing distance; on a television, the PS5 Pro’s cleaner presentation is easier to see.
When Switch 2 RE4 still makes sense
Buy it when the ability to play RE4 anywhere is more valuable than matching the best console image. A portable RE4 remains a substantial advantage for commuters, travelers and households where the main television is not always available. The right expectation is a playable portable adaptation with visible visual concessions, not a presentation equivalent to PS5 Pro.
When PS5 Pro is the clear choice
Choose PS5 Pro if RE4 is the game you are buying the system for, if you use a large television, or if you are particularly sensitive to texture softness and foliage detail. The extra performance headroom also gives you more confidence during the game’s busier scenes. Among the three remakes, RE4 provides the strongest reason to prioritize the PS5 Pro version when portability is not essential.

Do not read this table as proof that RE2 or RE3 look identical to their PS5 Pro versions. It answers the narrower question of how the Switch 2 ports behave in their own docked and handheld modes. The PS5 Pro versions still have the stronger presentation and, for RE2, documented ray-tracing and audio/controller options.

Buying decision by player type
You play almost exclusively on a television
Buy PS5 Pro. The platform’s image-quality advantage, ray-tracing option for RE2, DualSense support, 3D audio and shorter loading directly match a television-first setup. The Switch 2’s portability does not add much value if the console will remain docked.
You split time between television and handheld
Buy Switch 2 for RE2 or RE3 if you expect to use handheld mode regularly. Both target 60 fps in both modes, so the portability benefit is backed by strong reported performance. For RE4, decide whether you can accept softer detail before buying; if not, stay with PS5 Pro.
You are new to the remakes
Start with RE2. It offers the broadest mix of exploration, puzzles and combat, and it is the most balanced technically on Switch 2. Choose the platform according to your display habits, not fear that the portable version will be unplayable.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You have only six hours for a campaign
Choose RE3. Its approximately six-hour completion estimate comes from TechRadar’s playthrough and should be treated as a practical review estimate rather than a universal completion time. Optional content, difficulty and player speed can change the total.
You want the most ambitious game
Choose RE4, preferably on PS5 Pro if image quality is your priority. Choose Switch 2 only when portable access is important enough to outweigh the visible compromises.
You want physical media
Wait for the announced Switch 2 physical releases on January 29, 2027. Digital editions released October 16, 2026, so the decision is primarily between immediate access and the physical format you prefer.
What to check before you buy
- Confirm your main play location. If the console will stay connected to a 4K HDR television, PS5 Pro has the more appropriate feature set. If you will play in bed, while traveling or in shared spaces, Switch 2’s handheld mode may be worth more than visual upgrades.
- Choose the campaign before choosing the platform. RE2 is the balanced exploration game, RE3 is the roughly six-hour action game, and RE4 is the largest technical and gameplay commitment.
- Set expectations for frame-rate language. “Targets 60 fps” describes the design goal. The hands-on reports for RE2 and RE3 found the target consistent or nearly so, but it is not a promise that every frame is identical in every scene.
- Check the exact edition contents. Switch 2 uses the names RE2 Deluxe Edition and RE4 Gold Edition, but the supplied announcement details do not enumerate every included extra or prove one-to-one parity with each PS5 Pro package.
- Pick digital or physical deliberately. Digital Switch 2 versions are available from October 16, 2026; physical versions are scheduled for January 29, 2027.
- Consider control preferences. The Switch 2 RE2 report specifically notes no gyro aiming and no mouse mode. Players who depend on either should account for that before choosing the portable version.
Bottom line
PS5 Pro is the superior technical version for a television-first player: it offers the cleanest image, documented ray-tracing and 4K HDR options for Resident Evil 2, DualSense features, 3D audio, shorter loading and more performance reserve. Switch 2 is the better lifestyle choice when handheld play is the reason you will finish the games. RE2 is the safest portable recommendation, RE3 is the best short action game, and RE4 is worth buying on Switch 2 only if portability outweighs its clearly softer visual presentation.
