Short answer: PS5 Pro is the better choice for a television-first player who wants the cleanest image, advanced effects and the most performance headroom. Nintendo Switch 2 is the better choice when handheld play matters. Resident Evil 2 is the safest Switch 2 purchase, Resident Evil 4 is the demanding showcase that exposes the biggest technical compromises, and Resident Evil 3 makes the most sense for a shorter, more action-focused campaign or a substantial discount.

Resident Evil 2 Remake: the best all-round Switch 2 version
The Nintendo Switch 2 edition launched on October 16, 2026 and targets 60fps. TechRadar reports delightfully consistent frame rates in both handheld and docked play, including higher-action sections. That matters particularly for Resident Evil 2, whose tension depends on deliberate movement, careful resource use and an atmosphere that is easily damaged by distracting stutter.
The conversion therefore delivers the most convincing balance in the Switch 2 group: you can play away from the television without giving up the steady pacing that makes the remake work. A television player who wants maximum image quality should still choose PS5 Pro or PC, but the Switch 2 edition does not require that compromise to be enjoyable.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Buy this version if: you want the safest first purchase, value stable performance in both modes and care more about playing anywhere than about the last step in visual fidelity.
Resident Evil 3 Remake: smooth, fast and harder to justify on visuals
The Switch 2 edition also released October 16, 2026 and targets 60fps. TechRadar reports smooth docked and handheld play, with barely noticeable drops even during action-heavy scenes. The review also found that the graphics translate well after HDR calibration.
Resident Evil 3 is the more action-forward and shorter campaign of the three, so its fast pace benefits from the responsive conversion. The trade-off is that it is not the strongest argument for choosing Switch 2 over PS5 Pro on image quality alone. Creative Bloq describes the remake as good while noting that it takes liberties, and Nintendo Life’s review summary gives it 6/10, compared with 9/10 for both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. Those scores are editorial judgments, not technical measurements.

- TERRIFYING ZOMBIES WAITING AROUND EVERY CORNER -- Driven by insatiable hunger, these creatures act on instinct, gnashing their teeth, ripping at flesh, and devouring their victims. The new immersive camera lets you feel their fangs as they sink into your flesh.
- RACCOON CITY, REBUILT IN INTRICATE DETAIL -- The characters, environments, and story have all been rebuilt from the ground up to create a terrifying world that feels both nostalgic and new.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
Buy this version if: you specifically want the shorter, more action-led campaign, prefer handheld access or find it substantially cheaper than the other remakes.
Resident Evil 4 Remake: the Switch 2 stress test
Resident Evil 4 asks considerably more of the hardware because its design combines large environments, frequent combat, varied effects and a much more action-heavy rhythm. Creative Bloq calls the remake a fantastic update, but the Switch 2 version is where the platform gap becomes easiest to see.
Nintendo Life’s October 2026 summary of Digital Foundry’s analysis says the port would benefit from a locked 40fps mode. That is a useful warning: the game has a 60fps target, but the available evidence indicates that maintaining that target involves compromises in consistency or visual settings. The same summary places the Switch 2 edition closer to the PS4 version than the PS5 version in overall technical ambition. It does not establish exact internal resolutions.

- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

On PS5 Pro, Resident Evil 4 is officially enhanced. Capcom, quoted by Sony, says the game runs at a higher framerate on PS5 Pro and uses ultra-high-resolution technology for more detailed environments and more natural visual effects:

Buy the PS5 Pro version if: you want the cleanest television presentation, higher performance headroom and the fullest use of a capable display. Buy the Switch 2 version if: portable access is the deciding feature and you accept more visible compromises in the most demanding remake.

- FEAR COMES HOME -- Fear, combat, exploration, and item management: these are the four pillars of survival horror, a genre that has never been more masterfully executed than in the gameplay of Resident Evil. The horror continues in the ground-breaking Resident Evil 7. Step into the new Isolated View and experience true survival horror in a world created by the all-new RE Engine.
- DEEP IN THE BAYOU - When Ethan Winters opened his inbox, the last thing he expected was to find an email from his wife; she had been missing for three years. The message was simple: "Come get me," and an address in Louisiana. This leads Ethan to a decrepit mansion in the heart of the bayou. The place has a seriously creepy vibe, but Ethan continues his search – until a stranger attacks him and knocks him unconscious. Ethan has no idea what awaits him when he wakes up...for he is now in the clutches of the Baker family.
- A NEW PERSPECTIVE -- In RESIDENT EVIL 7, we're changing the way you interact with the world. For this next major entry in the series, play from a first-person point of view, dramatically increasing your ability to become fully absorbed in the world we have created.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
What PS5 Pro adds beyond a larger screen
Sony describes PS5 Pro as combining an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing and PSSR. Those features are relevant to Resident Evil 4 because the game has enough environmental detail and action to expose differences in image reconstruction, reflections and lighting. The advantage is not simply that PS5 Pro can produce a sharper-looking still image; it has more headroom to pursue image quality and frame rate together.
Sony’s developer information also lists 3D audio, adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and faster asset streaming for the PS5 version of Resident Evil 4. These features matter most if you already play with a compatible home-theater setup and want a living-room presentation rather than a portable one.

If you are buying on Switch 2
- Start with Resident Evil 2 for the most reliable combination of atmosphere, pacing and reported 60fps-target performance in handheld and docked modes.
- Choose Resident Evil 4 next if you want the broadest combat variety and can accept that the Switch 2 port is the most technically compromised.
- Pick Resident Evil 3 when its shorter, action-oriented structure appeals to you or its price is clearly lower.
If you are buying on PS5 Pro
Resident Evil 4 is the clearest showcase because it has official PS5 Pro enhancement support and Capcom specifically cites higher framerate and ultra-high-resolution technology. The same platform is the better home-console choice for players who rank image quality and performance above portability.

If you own both systems
Use PS5 Pro for sessions centered on a large 4K/120Hz display and Switch 2 for travel, a second room or any situation where handheld play changes whether you will play at all. The choice is about priorities rather than whether the Switch 2 versions are playable: the cited reviews find RE2 and RE3 smooth, while RE4 is the one that asks you to tolerate compromises.
The practical verdict
Nintendo Switch 2 turns two of the three remakes into unusually good portable conversions. Resident Evil 2 is the standout because its reported consistency preserves the game’s careful survival-horror pacing. Resident Evil 3 is technically smooth but less compelling as a platform showcase. Resident Evil 4 is playable on Switch 2 and valuable for portability, yet PS5 Pro remains the superior television version because its official enhancements provide more room for image quality and frame-rate performance.
