“Native” means the game is built to run on the Switch 2 hardware rather than streamed from a remote server. That distinction matters for offline play, download requirements and responsiveness, but the announcements do not provide a complete resolution or frame-rate comparison with other consoles.

The original Nintendo Switch received cloud-delivery versions of modern Resident Evil games. Cloud games require a persistent, sufficiently fast internet connection because gameplay is rendered remotely. A native Switch 2 edition installs game data on the console or its storage and runs locally, so it is not dependent on a cloud session after installation.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Owners should check the product listing for the exact edition they are buying. A Switch 2 native release is a separate product decision from an older Switch cloud version; do not assume that purchasing one automatically upgrades the other unless the regional store listing explicitly says so.
What launched first on February 27, 2026?
Resident Evil 7 biohazard
This first-person survival-horror entry is part of Capcom’s three-game opening wave. The Switch 2 announcement confirms its February 27, 2026 availability, but does not establish a complete set of graphics modes, resolution targets or frame-rate measurements.

- Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition
Resident Evil Village
Village also arrived as a native Switch 2 edition on February 27, 2026. It continues the first-person format and follows the same purchasing caveat: verify the Switch 2 product page rather than relying on the specifications of the original Switch cloud release.
Resident Evil Requiem
Capcom describes Resident Evil Requiem as “a survival horror game that serves as the ninth main installment in the series.” Capcom also confirmed that it would be released for Nintendo Switch 2 at launch. Nintendo lists the game as a Switch 2 title and offers a Deluxe Edition, giving buyers a choice between the standard release and the expanded package.
Rank #3
- Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition
When do Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 arrive?
Capcom’s Resident Evil Portal lists native Switch 2 releases for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 on October 16, 2026. That date is the current listed release date for all three. The listing establishes availability, not a full technical breakdown, so buyers should consult their regional Nintendo eShop or retail page for download size, physical format, pricing and any upgrade rules.

Choose Requiem for the newest starting point
Start with Resident Evil Requiem if you want the newest mainline chapter and a game designed for Switch 2 from launch. Its Deluxe Edition is the option to investigate if you specifically want the additional contents included in that package.

- A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancements combined with the development team's depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that's more immersive than ever before.
- Experience the series' classic survival horror through combat, investigations, puzzles, and resource management. Gameplay allows you to freely switch between first and third-person views to face the horrors in a way that suits your playstyle.

Choose Resident Evil 7 for a compact modern introduction
Resident Evil 7 biohazard is the logical first purchase for players who want to begin the modern first-person storyline before moving to Village. Buying it as the native Switch 2 edition avoids the original Switch cloud-delivery format.

Choose Village after 7
Resident Evil Village follows the modern first-person direction established by Resident Evil 7. It is best suited to players who want that continuing storyline rather than a remake-era third-person campaign.
Best Value
- Fear comes home in this highly acclaimed survival horror experience which revitalised the Resident Evil series
- Protagonist Ethan Winters is an ordinary man thrust into extraordinary circumstances as the search for his missing wife leads him to a seemingly abandoned Louisiana house.
Choose Resident Evil 2 for the remake-era route
With its October 16, 2026 Switch 2 release, Resident Evil 2 is the natural entry for players who prefer the remake-era games and want to begin that sequence before Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4.
