For the lowest published sending-only price, Amazon SES lists outbound email at $0.10 per 1,000 messages: about $10 at 100,000 messages a month, $50 at 500,000 and $100 at 1 million. Those figures are not equivalent to managed email plans. Resend lists $90 a month for 100,000 emails, while modeled totals based on its published overage rate reach about $450 at 500,000 and $900 at 1 million. Mailgun starts at the same $90 for 100,000; extending its “from” overage rate produces illustrative estimates of about $530 and $1,080. The distinction between quoted prices and arithmetic estimates matters: providers do not publish comparable fixed plans for every volume.
What are the best Resend alternatives?
The best fit depends on whether you need a simple API sending plan, a managed platform with additional features, or a low à-la-carte sending rate that may require separately priced services. On the public figures available as of October 7, 2026, Amazon SES has the lowest stated base sending charge, but its rate is not a like-for-like managed-plan price. Mailgun and Postmark offer alternatives with their own plan structures; SendGrid figures below come from an AWS Marketplace listing rather than a universal direct quote.

The Resend and Mailgun totals above 100,000 are calculations, not quoted package prices. For both, the model is the 100,000-email plan price plus the additional volume multiplied by the listed per-1,000 overage. Mailgun’s rate is “from” $1.10, so the model is not guaranteed. The SendGrid prices are tied to the cited Marketplace listing; they do not establish universal direct-purchase pricing or a 500,000-email package.

Check what a billable email means
Before comparing a plan against your usage, confirm whether the provider bills by message, recipient or another unit. Also check whether your volume is transactional mail, broadcasts or both, and whether attachments or optional services affect the bill. A headline price alone cannot establish the full monthly cost.
How much does 100,000 emails per month cost?
Among the published figures, 100,000 monthly messages range from about $10 in Amazon SES base sending charges to $90 for Resend Scale or Mailgun Scale. The SES number covers the listed outbound-send component only; it does not price an equivalent managed feature set. SendGrid’s AWS Marketplace listing shows $34.95 for Essentials 100K and $89.95 for Pro 100K. Postmark’s surfaced pricing text does not give a fixed 100,000-email quote.
For Resend and Mailgun, the listed Scale plans each include 100,000 emails for $90 a month. Postmark’s Basic plan starts at $15 for 10,000 emails, with an overage rate of $1.80 per 1,000; that published entry price should not be treated as a provider quote for 100,000. Postmark directs high-volume senders to sales or its calculator rather than stating a fixed high-volume plan price.

Resend’s modeled monthly total is about $450: $90 for the first 100,000, plus 400 blocks of 1,000 at $0.90 each. Mailgun’s corresponding model is about $530: $90 plus 400 blocks at its stated starting overage rate of $1.10. These are arithmetic extensions of public terms, not provider quotes, and Mailgun’s “from” rate may not apply to every account or configuration.
Amazon SES’s base sending charge at the published $0.10 per 1,000 rate is about $50 for 500,000 outbound emails. That excludes any separately priced features or other charges. The cited SendGrid Marketplace listing has no exact 500,000 tier, and Postmark’s public page directs high-volume inquiries to sales or its calculator.
How much is 1 million emails per month?
At 1 million monthly messages, extending Resend’s stated Scale overage rate yields about $900: $90 for the first 100,000 plus 900 blocks of 1,000 at $0.90. Extending Mailgun’s starting overage rate yields about $1,080: $90 plus 900 blocks at $1.10. Both are modeled totals, not quoted packages.

Amazon SES’s listed base sending component is about $100 at 1 million outbound emails. The AWS Marketplace SendGrid listing includes a Pro 1.5M tier at $799 per month, but that is a package with more listed capacity than 1 million; it is not an exact 1-million tier or a direct-purchase quote. Postmark does not state a fixed 1-million price in the surfaced page text.
Is Amazon SES cheaper than Resend?
On the base sending charge alone, yes: the listed Amazon SES rate works out to about $10 per 100,000 emails, compared with Resend Scale at $90 for that volume. But that does not make the two prices equivalent. SES charges for optional capabilities separately, and AWS announced Essentials, Pro and Enterprise bundled pricing plans on July 21, 2026. Check the account’s region and selected plan rather than assuming every SES account pays only the à-la-carte send rate. AWS describes the plans in its July 21, 2026 announcement; the per-email sending rate appears on the Amazon SES pricing page.
What to compare beyond the monthly total
Service scope and sending type
Compare the features your workflow actually needs, including domains, inbound routing, message retention, analytics, dedicated IPs, support, validations, separate message streams and daily send limits. Those features and their quotas are not standardized by the price figures above. Resend distinguishes API transactional email from broadcasts and says broadcasts do not count against transactional limits; confirm which product and quota apply to your use case on its pricing page. Postmark offers separate streams and advises against mixing transactional and marketing sends; check its pricing page for plan details.
Extras, usage units and purchase channel
- Confirm what the provider counts as an email: a message, each recipient, or another billable unit.
- Include attachment data and any optional features that your account uses, especially when evaluating Amazon SES’s base send rate.
- For SendGrid, treat the listed amounts as AWS Marketplace package prices. The listing does not establish a universal direct-purchase price or the cost of an unlisted volume tier. See the AWS Marketplace listing for Twilio SendGrid Email.
- For Mailgun, remember that the overage rate is stated as “from” $1.10 per 1,000. See its pricing page for current terms.
How to estimate a monthly total from an included quota
- Find the monthly plan price and the number of emails included.
- Subtract the included amount from your expected monthly billable volume.
- Divide the excess by 1,000 and multiply by the published per-1,000 overage rate.
- Add that overage to the plan price, then check whether the provider labels the rate as a starting price and whether add-ons or different product quotas apply.
For example, Resend’s 500,000 estimate is $90 + ((500,000 − 100,000) ÷ 1,000 × $0.90) = $450. It is an estimate calculated from the published Scale terms, not a separate quoted 500,000-email plan. Rates and product limits can change, so verify the linked provider pricing pages before choosing a service.
