The assessment found strong overall occupant protection alongside specific weaknesses, including marginal front-seat whiplash protection. Child-seat fit, driver-assistance equipment, recall status and theft-security features all need checking against the individual car.
What the five-star Euro NCAP rating covers
Euro NCAP tested a left-hand-drive Renault Megane E-Tech EV60 220ch Techno in 2022. Its five-star result and category scores apply to that vehicle and the assessment protocol used that year. They do not establish the equipment or crash performance of every Megane E-Tech version sold in other markets or model years.

Where the crash assessment was strong
The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal-offset test. Euro NCAP described protection as generally good or adequate, including adequate driver chest protection and good performance in the side-barrier test. Rear-seat geometric whiplash protection was good.

Limits identified in the tests
The assessment rated front-seat whiplash protection and control of occupant excursion in a far-side impact as marginal. Neck-tension protection for the 10-year-old child dummy was also marginal. These specific findings add context to the star rating; they do not mean that every kind of protection received the same score.

Euro NCAP found pedestrian head protection predominantly good or adequate, with poor results at some windscreen-base and windscreen-pillar locations. Pelvic protection was mainly weak or poor. Its vulnerable-road-user AEB system performed well in most tested pedestrian and cyclist scenarios, avoiding or mitigating collisions; AEB response to other vehicles was assessed as adequate. The car had advanced eCall, which can alert emergency services after a crash, but Euro NCAP found no system designed to prevent secondary impacts after a collision.
Child seats, ISOFIX and the front passenger airbag
Euro NCAP reports ISOFIX/i-Size child-restraint positions and says the restraint types for which the Megane E-Tech is designed could be installed and accommodated in its assessment. That is not a guarantee that every seat will fit every car or seating position. Check the child seat’s height or weight approval, the vehicle’s compatibility information, and both manufacturers’ installation instructions.

Never put a rear-facing child restraint in the front passenger seat while that airbag is enabled. Euro NCAP says the passenger airbag can be disabled for a rear-facing restraint in that position and that the driver receives clear status information. Follow the vehicle’s instructions and verify the airbag status indicator before driving; do not assume the airbag has switched off automatically.

Renault’s manual page for vehicles in its stated 8 April 2024 to 22 September 2024 applicability period describes an automatic passenger-detection system on equipped vehicles. Depending on occupancy, the passenger airbag may be activated or disabled, with status indicators after initialization. Equipment and instructions can vary, so confirm the process in the manual for the specific vehicle before fitting a seat. An i-Size/ISOFIX-compatible seat is a relevant category to consider, but no particular seat model was assessed or endorsed here.

Driver assistance: useful support, not a substitute for driving
In the tested vehicle, Euro NCAP listed standard automatic emergency braking (AEB) for vulnerable road users and other vehicles, lane support, speed assistance and seat-belt reminders for all seating positions. It described lane support as correcting steering when the car drifts out of its lane, with stronger intervention in some critical situations.
Renault’s driver-assistance equipment varies by vehicle and market. Its French safety page describes features that include rear automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, lane-departure prevention, emergency-stop assistance and parking aids. For the specified lane-correction systems, that page gives an operating range of 70–160 km/h; it says blind-spot warning operates above 15 km/h. Those descriptions are not proof that a given car has those systems. Check the vehicle’s market specification and fitted equipment.

The page’s stated applicability is 8 April 2024 to 22 September 2024. Renault cautions that these functions do not replace the driver’s vigilance or responsibility. Treat warnings and interventions as assistance, remain attentive, and drive at a speed appropriate to conditions.

Renault describes three responder provisions for the Megane E-Tech. They are intended to help emergency services manage an electric vehicle incident, not to provide owners with do-it-yourself high-voltage repair instructions.
Best Value
- 3-in-1 harness booster helps protect your child, from toddler to youth
- Grows with your child from forward-facing harness (26.5-65 lb) to highback booster (40-100 lb*) to backless booster (40-100 lb) *To continue to meet industry standards, we have increased the weight minimum from 30 to 40 lb
- No-Rethread Simply Safe Adjust Harness System allows the headrest and harness to adjust together in one motion
- Lightweight, portable seat is ideal for busy, active parents
- One-hand, 9-position adjustable headrest grows with your child
- QRescue: Renault says QR codes placed on the front and rear windscreens since 2022 let responders access technical vehicle information. The manufacturer says the placement was determined with firefighters and can save up to 15 minutes of intervention time. That is Renault’s stated potential saving, not an independently established result for every rescue.
- SD Switch: Renault describes this as a mechanical switch that disconnects the battery from the electrical network and recommends its use by firefighters after a severe impact.
- Fireman Access: Renault says this provision is intended to let firefighters apply water to a battery fire. The manufacturer says the high-voltage battery is designed to avoid fire in normal use and accidents, while noting that an external fire can spread to it.
Euro NCAP’s rescue sheet for the electric Megane, identified as 2022-on, describes a 420 V lithium-ion battery and marks high-voltage cable areas. It provides responder guidance on immobilisation, access and isolation; it is not an owner repair guide.
Recall checks: confirm by VIN
A French government RappelConso listing dated 25 June 2026 names the Megane E-Tech among several Renault models in a parking-brake-related recall notice. The notice describes a parking-brake actuator position sensor at an incorrect angle that can cause incorrect P-lock pin positioning under specified vehicle shutdown, door and seat-belt conditions, with a risk of accident or injury. It says the assisted parking brake remains functional.
The notice does not establish that every Megane E-Tech is affected. Check the car’s VIN with Renault or the relevant national recall database to confirm whether it is included and whether a remedy is required. A model name or registration date alone is not enough to determine an individual vehicle’s status.
Alarm, immobilizer and theft security
Available information here does not establish whether a particular Megane E-Tech has an alarm, immobilizer or specific keyless-entry theft protection. These features can depend on model year, market and equipment. Verify them in the exact vehicle’s owner manual or with Renault; do not infer theft protection from crash-safety or driver-assistance equipment.
Quick Recap
What to check on a specific Megane E-Tech
- Match the model year, market and trim to the vehicle’s own equipment list and manual.
- Confirm which driver-assistance systems are fitted rather than relying on a feature list for another market or version.
- For a child seat, verify the approved size range, vehicle compatibility, seating position and installation method; check the passenger-airbag status when relevant.
- Use the VIN to check for open recalls and ask Renault about any required remedy.
- For alarm, immobilizer or keyless-entry security details, check the exact car’s manual or obtain confirmation from Renault.
