How to verify a remote AI opening before applying
- Open the employer’s own career page. Confirm the job title appears in the current listing and that the application button leads to an active application, not an expired or third-party repost.
- Read the location line literally. “Remote US,” “Remote India,” and “Remote – New York” describe different eligibility boundaries. Check country or state restrictions, time-zone expectations, travel, and any office attendance.
- Match the actual work to your experience. A research title may involve production engineering: Snorkel describes work spanning prototypes and scalable systems. Appen’s listing emphasizes agent environments and reproducible evaluation. Compare duties and qualifications rather than relying on the word “research.”
- Apply through an employer-controlled destination. Use the company career page or the ATS application it links. Anthropic advises candidates uncertain about a recruiting communication to confirm openings through its careers page and warns about recruiter impersonation.
- Prepare for that employer’s stated interview process. Anthropic says its technical interviews use live-coding tools such as Colab and CodeSignal, interviews take place on Google Meet, and it can accommodate a variety of time zones. Those details are specific to Anthropic, not a standard for other employers.
What to expect from remote AI roles
“Remote” is a location arrangement, not a promise that a job can be done from anywhere. Employer pages in this group include US-only, India-only, and location-specific options, as well as a remote-friendly position with required travel. Confirm the limits before investing time in an application.

Role titles also do not reliably distinguish research from product engineering. Read the qualifications and day-to-day responsibilities to see whether the work centers on experiments, model evaluation, infrastructure, deployment, or a mixture. For example, the Snorkel Research Scientist description includes prototyping and deployment alongside applied research, while Appen’s Applied AI Research Engineer listing describes evaluation infrastructure and LLM pipelines.
Anthropic says candidates may apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification. Treat that as guidance from Anthropic, not a universal promise about how every employer screens applicants.
