FC 27 role references list Deep-Lying Playmaker for central and defensive midfield positions; they do not list “Regista” as a menu label. The term is a useful analogy for a deep distributor, but it should not be mistaken for EA’s official name for the role. EA’s FC 25 FC IQ explanation described a Deep-Lying Playmaker as “the key cog to building up play from the back” and a catalyst for attacks. That is prior-edition wording, rather than a newly published FC 27 definition; FC 27 role listings corroborate the core build-up function. Where does a Deep-Lying Playmaker position?
The role is available in the role references for both CM and CDM, but its starting location and responsibilities depend on the position and chosen Focus. At CDM, it begins from a deeper midfield slot and can help connect the back line to the midfield. The CM listing also includes the role; do not assume every Focus is available in both positions, since the references show different position-specific details. Check the live game menu for the options available to your player.

FC IQ assigns role responsibilities, so the role is about more than the player’s nominal position: it influences where they offer support in possession and how they behave without the ball. These descriptions come from the position-specific FUT.GG CDM roles and Focus reference and FUT.GG CM roles and Focus reference. Focus names and availability can be affected by game updates, so the live FC 27 menu is the final check for a particular setup.

Trade-offs
- Progression can cost cover: Build-Up moves the player forward and reduces defensive support.
- Freedom can expose space: Roaming can pull the midfielder out of position, leaving teammates responsible for covering the gap.
- It is not a guaranteed ball-winner: the role descriptions focus on build-up and distribution; they do not establish that a Focus makes the player an automatic defensive stopper.
These are tactical implications of the published role descriptions, not measured results from controlled gameplay tests. The references provide no role-specific statistics, win-rate effects, or competitive ranking.

Which Focus should you choose?
- Choose Defend if you want the player to remain deeper and help screen passing lanes while still distributing from there.
- Choose Roaming if you want more movement and extra passing angles, and your formation can cover the space the player may leave.
- Choose Build-Up if you want the player to step forward as an outlet and accept less defensive support behind them.
There is no source-backed best Focus for every formation or player. Treat the choice as a balance between build-up involvement and central protection, then verify the role and Focus options available in your current game.
