There is no reliable gaming winner yet because Xiaomi’s official material does not verify a model called the REDMI Note 17 Pro+. The documented phone is the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G. Xiaomi also lists a separate REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, but the available specifications do not establish that “Pro+” means “Pro Max.”

For the verified REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, Xiaomi specifies a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 platform, a 120Hz AMOLED display and gaming features such as Game Turbo. Xiaomi’s UK support FAQ describes it as suitable for casual gaming, while warning that it may not be optimal for large games. Its listed game limits are up to 60 frames per second (fps) in PUBG and Call of Duty: Mobile, up to 90 fps in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and up to 60 fps in League of Legends: Mobile. Those are Xiaomi’s stated maximums, not independent benchmark results.

The naming problem comes before the gaming comparison

A comparison needs two identified products. Xiaomi’s official pages reviewed for this article name the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G and the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G. They do not confirm a separate REDMI Note 17 Pro+, nor do they say that “Pro+” is another name for the Pro Max.

That distinction matters because a suffix can represent a different chipset, memory standard, storage controller, cooling system, battery, or regional configuration. Treating an unconfirmed name as the Pro Max would turn a specification comparison into a guess. Until Xiaomi identifies the exact Pro+ model and market, any claim that one phone is definitively better for gaming is premature.

What can be answered now

  • The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is documented and has a 120Hz AMOLED panel, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 platform, Game Turbo and controller support.
  • Xiaomi positions the Pro 5G for casual gaming rather than demanding large games.
  • The 120Hz screen does not mean games run at 120 fps; Xiaomi’s UK FAQ says 120Hz high-frame-rate gaming is not supported on this model.
  • The possible second phone, the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, has a different listed platform and memory/storage specifications, but it has not been verified as the “Pro+” in the title.

REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G: the verified gaming hardware

The following specifications come from Xiaomi product pages. Some are specifically listed for India, so they should not be assumed to apply unchanged in every country.

Specification REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G Gaming significance
Platform Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 Defines the phone’s CPU and GPU capability, but the platform name alone does not predict sustained fps in every game.
Display 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED Large, high-resolution panel for games; higher resolution can also increase rendering workload.
Refresh rate Up to 120Hz Can make menus and supported gameplay look smoother, but does not force a game to render at 120 fps.
Touch sampling 240Hz; instantaneous 3200Hz mode in specified gaming conditions Measures touch-readout responsiveness, not frame rate. The 3200Hz mode is conditional on gaming scenarios or Game Turbo, depending on the regional page.
Memory LPDDR4X on the India specification Physical memory standard; extended or virtual RAM should not be treated as an equivalent upgrade.
Storage UFS 3.1 on 256GB and 512GB versions; UFS 2.2 on 128GB version in India Faster storage can help loading and installation tasks, but it is not a direct promise of higher in-game fps.
Battery 9,000mAh typical in India Large stated capacity, but no comparable gaming-endurance measurement is established here.
Charging 67W in India Shortens recharge time according to the listed specification; charging speed is not a sustained-performance test.

Display and touch response

The Pro 5G’s 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen supports up to 120Hz refresh. A high-refresh panel can improve scrolling, camera movement and interface animation when the software supplies enough frames. It cannot create frames that the game engine does not render.

Touch sampling is a separate measurement. Xiaomi lists 240Hz touch sampling and an instantaneous 3200Hz mode under specified gaming conditions. These figures describe how frequently touch input may be read, not how quickly the GPU draws a frame. A player can therefore have fast touch reporting while a game remains capped at 60 or 90 fps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Chipset, memory and storage

Xiaomi identifies the Pro 5G platform as Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. The India page lists an Adreno GPU, LPDDR4X memory and different storage standards by capacity: UFS 3.1 for 256GB and 512GB models, and UFS 2.2 for the 128GB model. These are not interchangeable configurations. Buyers should check the exact capacity and country listing rather than assuming that every Pro 5G has the fastest storage option.

There is no independent, directly comparable test here measuring average fps, one-percent-low frame rates, frame pacing or temperature. A chipset label is useful for identifying the hardware, but it is not proof that two phones will deliver the same experience after a long session.

Battery and charging do not settle the gaming question

The India specification lists a 9,000mAh typical battery and 67W charging. Capacity can provide more potential playing time, but actual endurance depends on brightness, cellular signal, game workload, frame-rate setting, temperature and background activity. Without a repeatable gaming-drain test, the battery number should be treated as a specification rather than a measured runtime.

What Xiaomi says about gaming on the Pro 5G

Xiaomi’s UK support FAQ gives the clearest model-specific guidance. It says the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is “suitable for casual gaming but may not be optimal for large games.” That is manufacturer guidance, not an independent review or laboratory benchmark.

Officially listed maximum frame rates

Game Xiaomi-listed maximum on REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G How to interpret it
PUBG Up to 60 fps Do not expect a 90 or 120 fps mode based only on the display specification.
Call of Duty: Mobile Up to 60 fps The listed ceiling is game-specific and may depend on settings and updates.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Up to 90 fps This is the highest game-specific maximum listed in the FAQ, not a universal phone limit.
League of Legends: Mobile Up to 60 fps Availability can still vary with the title’s optimization and selected settings.

Xiaomi cautions that actual frame rates vary with application optimization, graphics settings and background processes. Updates can also change which options a game exposes. The figures above should therefore be read as Xiaomi’s stated maximums for the FAQ, not a guarantee that every match will hold that rate.

Why 120Hz does not equal 120 fps

Refresh rate is the screen’s update capability; frame rate is the number of images the game produces. A 120Hz display can refresh up to 120 times per second, but a game capped at 60 fps supplies only 60 new frames per second. The phone may show each frame for more than one refresh cycle.

Xiaomi’s UK FAQ specifically says the Pro 5G does not support 120Hz high-frame-rate gaming. That makes the distinction especially important: buying the phone for a 120Hz panel should not be interpreted as buying 120-fps gaming.

Game Turbo, Wild Boost and controllers

The Pro 5G supports Game Turbo. Xiaomi describes it as a way to prioritize CPU and GPU performance and reduce background activity while playing. The same FAQ says the phone does not support Wild Boost. These are feature labels, not independent evidence of a particular frame rate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Xiaomi also documents controller connections through Bluetooth HID and wired USB-C OTG. A compatible controller can be useful for supported games, but no individual controller was tested for this comparison. Connection behavior can vary by game, controller and regional software.

REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G: a possible, but unconfirmed, counterpart

Xiaomi India’s official specification page names the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G. It is a distinct product name in the available material, not proof that it is the phone marketed elsewhere as “Pro+.”

Specification REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G listed by Xiaomi India What remains unknown for this comparison
Platform Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 Whether this is the exact chipset in the model called Pro+ by the title owner.
Memory Up to 12GB physical LPDDR5X RAM Which capacities and memory options are sold in the reader’s market.
Storage UFS 4.1 Whether the same storage standard applies to every regional configuration.
Display 6.83-inch 1.5K display with up to 120Hz refresh Game-specific frame-rate support and touch behavior.
Battery 10,000mAh typical Measured gaming endurance, charging behavior under load and thermal performance.

On paper, the Pro Max listing contains newer-sounding memory and storage standards and a different Snapdragon platform. That does not establish gaming superiority. Without a confirmed identity, regional configuration and comparable testing, it is not valid to convert those specifications into a winner.

How to compare the phones once “Pro+” is confirmed

Use the following order. It prevents a large battery or impressive refresh-rate number from masking a game-specific limitation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm the exact product name and market. Check Xiaomi’s official catalog for the country where the phone will be purchased. Record whether the listing says Pro 5G, Pro Max 5G or Pro+ and note the model number if provided.
  2. Match configurations. Compare the same physical RAM capacity and storage capacity in both phones. Do not treat virtual RAM as equivalent to physical LPDDR memory.
  3. Check your actual games. Look for the supported frame-rate options in the game’s graphics menu and Xiaomi’s model-specific support information. A 120Hz panel is not enough.
  4. Compare sustained results. Prefer tests that report average fps, low-percentile fps or frame-time stability, temperature and performance after a repeatable long session. A short benchmark can miss throttling.
  5. Check graphics settings at the same resolution. A higher frame rate at lower graphics quality is not directly comparable with a lower frame rate at higher quality.
  6. Assess comfort and controls. Compare brightness, touch response, speaker position, weight, heat near the hands and controller compatibility, because these affect long sessions even when peak fps is similar.
  7. Separate capacity from endurance. Battery size and charging wattage are specifications. Ask for measured gaming drain and recharge time if endurance is a deciding factor.

Evidence that would justify a gaming verdict

A defensible winner would need the exact two regional phones tested under the same game version, graphics preset, network conditions and brightness. The useful results would include frame pacing, average and low-percentile fps, surface temperature, battery drain per hour and performance after at least one extended session. No such direct test for the exact Pro 5G-versus-Pro+ pair is established here.

What kind of player should consider the verified Pro 5G?

Casual players

The Pro 5G fits Xiaomi’s own casual-gaming description. Players of lighter titles or shorter sessions can use the 120Hz display, Game Turbo and optional Bluetooth or USB-C OTG controller support, while staying within the game-specific ceilings Xiaomi lists.

Players focused on PUBG or Call of Duty: Mobile

Xiaomi lists up to 60 fps for both PUBG and Call of Duty: Mobile. If your purchase decision depends on a 90-fps or 120-fps mode in either title, the Pro 5G is not documented as supporting that target.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang players

The FAQ lists up to 90 fps for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. That makes this title a better fit for exploiting more of the panel’s refresh capability than the 60-fps examples, although the actual option and stability still depend on game settings, updates and background activity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Players of large, demanding games

Xiaomi’s warning that the phone may not be optimal for large games should be taken seriously. Demanding games can combine high rendering load, sustained heat and large downloads. The available material does not establish a stable high-fps profile for those workloads, so buyers who prioritize them should wait for testing of the exact regional model or choose using verified game-specific evidence rather than the 120Hz label.

Practical steps for better results on the Pro 5G

These steps use documented capabilities without promising an unsupported frame rate:

  1. Install the latest system and game updates available for your region.
  2. Open the phone’s Game Turbo feature and add the game, following the labels shown by your regional software version.
  3. Choose a frame-rate option the game actually offers. Do not select a graphics mode solely because the display is rated at 120Hz.
  4. Close unnecessary background apps and avoid downloads or sync jobs during play; Xiaomi identifies background processes as one factor that can affect fps.
  5. Keep brightness and graphics settings consistent when comparing sessions. Changing several settings at once makes the result impossible to interpret.
  6. Use a Bluetooth HID or USB-C OTG controller if the game supports it and touch controls are uncomfortable.
  7. Monitor heat during long sessions. If performance drops as the phone warms, reduce graphics quality or frame-rate demand and allow the device to cool.

Common mistakes when reading this comparison

  • Assuming Pro+ equals Pro Max: the available official names do not make that connection.
  • Converting 120Hz into 120 fps: refresh capability and game output are different.
  • Using chipset names as benchmark results: real performance also depends on software, thermals, memory, game optimization and settings.
  • Comparing regional specifications as if they were universal: the 9,000mAh battery, storage variants and memory details cited for the Pro 5G are India-market information.
  • Calling a large battery a gaming-endurance test: capacity does not reveal hours of play under a particular workload.
  • Trusting a short benchmark: sustained frame pacing and temperature matter more for long sessions than a brief peak score.

Verdict: identify the second phone before choosing a winner

The only responsible answer today is conditional. The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is a casual-gaming phone with a 120Hz AMOLED display, Game Turbo and Xiaomi-listed ceilings of 60 fps in PUBG, 60 fps in Call of Duty: Mobile, 90 fps in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and 60 fps in League of Legends: Mobile. Xiaomi also says it may not be optimal for large games.

The “REDMI Note 17 Pro+” has not been established as an official model name in the material available here. It may refer to the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, but that equivalence needs confirmation from Xiaomi for the relevant market. Until then, there is no evidence-based way to declare the Pro+ or Pro Max the better gaming phone. Confirm the model first, then compare game support and sustained testing rather than relying on refresh rate, battery size or chipset branding.
