On the published India specifications, the Redmi Note 17 5G has the sharper OLED screen and larger stated battery; the vivo Y31T 5G lists IP68 and IP69 protection and UFS 3.1 storage. A 91mobiles comparison page displayed the vivo at ₹2,000 less, but that snapshot is not a confirmed live or variant-matched price.
At a glance: Redmi Note 17 5G vs vivo Y31T 5G
The figures below come from the manufacturers’ India specification pages unless the price row says otherwise. They are published specifications, not independent performance or durability test results.

Which phone has the better display?
The Redmi’s published panel specification is the stronger choice if resolution and OLED contrast matter most: it lists a 2396 × 1080 OLED display. The vivo lists a 1608 × 720 LCD. Both pages specify refresh rates of up to 120 Hz, so the headline refresh-rate figure does not distinguish them.

Brightness figures use different labels: Xiaomi states 1800 nits multi-scenario peak brightness, while vivo states 1250 nits HBM brightness. Those descriptions are not necessarily measurements taken under identical conditions, so they should not be treated as a direct brightness test.
Does the Redmi’s larger battery mean longer runtime?
Xiaomi lists an 8000 mAh typical battery and 45 W wired charging; vivo lists 7200 mAh typical capacity (7060 mAh rated) and 44 W FlashCharge. Xiaomi also specifies 22.5 W wired reverse charging. These are capacity and charging ratings, not a guarantee of screen-on time or charging duration: actual results depend on usage, network conditions, software, and other factors.

How different are performance, cameras, and storage?
Processor
The Redmi page lists a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, while vivo lists a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. The model names and clock figures alone do not establish how much faster either phone is in everyday use, games, or sustained workloads. The cited manufacturer pages do not provide comparable benchmark, thermal, or gaming results.

Both list a 50 MP main rear camera and an 8 MP front camera. vivo additionally lists a 2 MP bokeh camera. Megapixel counts and camera-module listings do not establish which phone takes better photos; the cited specifications contain no controlled image-quality comparison.

RAM and storage
The Redmi page lists 6 GB or 8 GB RAM with 128 GB UFS 2.2 storage. vivo lists 4 GB or 6 GB RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB options, with UFS 3.1 storage. Check the exact configuration for sale: the listed RAM and storage combinations may not be available at every retailer or price.
What does the IP rating and software information tell you?
vivo’s India page states IP68 and IP69. The cited Redmi India specification page does not state an IP rating. That omission is not proof that the Redmi has no water resistance, and the published information here is not an independent durability test.

The manufacturer pages list Xiaomi HyperOS 3 for the Redmi and Android 16 with OriginOS 6 for the vivo. The reviewed specifications do not state comparable operating-system upgrade or security-update durations, so they do not establish a support-period winner.
What is the price difference?
The 91mobiles comparison page displayed ₹27,999 for the Redmi and ₹25,999 for the vivo, making the vivo ₹2,000 cheaper in that snapshot. The page does not establish that the two prices apply to matching RAM and storage variants, and the figures are not official launch prices or a promise of current retailer pricing. Confirm a live India listing, seller, and exact configuration before deciding whether the gap still applies.

Which one should you choose?
Choose the Redmi if
- You want the higher-resolution OLED panel listed on the India specification page.
- The larger stated typical battery capacity and reverse wired charging suit your needs.
- You are considering a listed 8 GB RAM configuration.
Choose the vivo if
- You value the IP68 and IP69 ratings stated on its India page.
- You want the listed UFS 3.1 storage or a 256 GB storage option.
- The lower displayed price remains available for the configuration you want.
Before buying, compare the exact RAM/storage variant and current price, and—if purchasing outside India—check the local model’s network bands against your carrier. The India pages list different bands: Xiaomi gives LTE FDD bands 1/3/5/8/28, LTE TDD 40/41, and 5G SA/NSA bands including n1/3/5/8/28/40/78; vivo lists 5G bands n1/n3/n5/n8/n28B/n40/n77/n78. Market-specific versions may differ.
