Start with Gallery > Menu > Recycle bin on your Samsung Galaxy S20. If the video is there, select it and tap Restore. If it is not, check Google Photos Bin, Archive, the Google account used for backup, and any cloud copy that existed before deletion. Recovery depends on a video still being retained in a bin or saved in a backup; an empty bin and no prior copy leave no confirmed restore route.
1. Restore the video from Samsung Gallery Recycle bin
- Open Gallery on the S20.
- Open Menu, then tap Recycle bin.
- Select the deleted video and tap Restore.
The Recycle bin can restore a video only if it was enabled before the video was deleted. Samsung support guidance specifies a 30-day retention period for Gallery items, but screens and settings can vary by software version and device. The Galaxy S20 user manual confirms deleted images and videos can be held in the bin without specifying a duration. See Samsung’s recovery guidance, its Recycle bin instructions, and the Galaxy S20 user manual.

2. Check Google Photos Bin
If Gallery’s bin does not contain the clip, open Google Photos and go to Collections > Bin. Select the video and tap Restore if it is listed. Google’s Android help says items in Bin are permanently deleted after 30 days. Restoring returns an item to the Google Photos library, its albums, and the phone’s Gallery. Google’s policy is the current reference for Google Photos; older support pages may state a different window. Google Photos Help: Restore recently deleted photos and videos.
3. Rule out a hidden video or the wrong account
- Check the Google account: In Google Photos, confirm you are signed into the account that was used to back up the video. If you use more than one account, check each relevant one.
- Check Archive: A video moved to Archive may no longer appear in the main Photos view, even though it has not been deleted.
- Check Gallery and Photos separately: The apps can show copies from different locations or accounts, so a video missing from one view may still exist in another.
Google’s help page explains how account and Archive state can affect what appears in Photos: Google Photos Help.

4. Look for a cloud-synced or backed-up copy
If Gallery was syncing before deletion, check the linked Samsung or Microsoft account and OneDrive for an existing copy. Samsung documents Gallery cloud sync and the transition to OneDrive; the S20 manual describes syncing captured photos and videos to the cloud and connecting Microsoft OneDrive. Check OneDrive’s available deleted-files or recycle area as well as its normal files. The Samsung sources cited here do not establish a current OneDrive retention period, so do not assume a specific recovery window.
Also check any other backup service you had already configured. A backup enabled after the video disappeared cannot restore a copy that was never saved there. Samsung’s guidance on Gallery, accounts, and OneDrive is available in its Galaxy recovery article and S20 manual.

5. What if you emptied the trash or deleted the video permanently?
Check every relevant bin and any backup that existed before deletion. Google states that items permanently deleted from Google Photos cannot be restored from its Bin. The cited Samsung and Google instructions support restoring retained bin items or finding an existing cloud copy; they do not establish that third-party recovery software can reliably recover a permanently deleted video from an S20. Do not rely on an app or service promising guaranteed recovery in that situation.
Prevent the next loss
Once you have recovered any available copy, enable a backup or sync option you are comfortable using, such as Google Photos backup or Samsung Gallery cloud sync with OneDrive. Confirm that the correct account is connected and that the video appears in the backup service. Turning backup on now protects future media; it does not create a backup of a video already deleted.
