The Xiaomi Redmi 17 5G answers with a slightly larger 6.9-inch screen, a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chip, a longer stated update window and reverse wired charging. Both are India-market phones, and the figures below come from each brand’s India product page plus a 91mobiles comparison snapshot. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

Battery and charging
The 100mAh gap on paper (8,000 vs 7,900mAh) is small, and Xiaomi’s figure is a “typical” rating, so the real difference may be even smaller. Both phones charge at 45W. The practical difference is that the Redmi can also push up to 22.5W out over a cable, which helps if you want to top up earbuds or another phone. Battery-life numbers on either brand’s page, including realme Lab figures, are the manufacturers’ own and realme notes that actual results may vary. No controlled endurance test comparing these two phones was found, so treat runtime as unknown.

Both screens are HD+ class (720p-level resolution), so neither is sharp by 2026 standards. The P4R’s selling points are the 144Hz ceiling and 1,200-nit peak brightness, the latter a realme claim. The Redmi offers a bigger 6.9-inch panel capped at 120Hz adaptive refresh. Since both use low resolutions, a higher refresh rate affects smoothness in scrolling and games, not clarity. Few apps and games actually run at 144Hz, so the practical gap to 120Hz may be modest.

Performance
The Dimensity 6300 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 are both entry-level 5G chips. No reliable head-to-head benchmarks for these exact phones turned up, and realme’s own benchmark claim is not independent. Chip names alone do not settle a winner, so expect everyday-use performance in the same broad class. If gaming matters, wait for hands-on reviews with sustained-load tests, and if you buy the Redmi, choose the 8GB variant for more headroom.
Camera
Both list a 50MP main camera. Megapixels do not determine quality; processing, sensor size and lens matter more, and no independent sample comparison was available. Do not choose on camera alone from the spec sheets.

Software support and durability
This is where Xiaomi has the clearest documented advantage: four years of OS updates and six years of security updates on its India page. realme’s page shows Android 16-based realme UI 7.0, and its “4-Year Smooth Guarantee” refers to performance smoothness, not a promise of OS updates. Check realme’s current update policy for India before assuming parity. On protection, the P4R’s IP65 rating covers water jets, while the Redmi’s IP64 covers splashes. Both are dust-tight only in the sense of their rating, and neither is for submersion.
Price difference
91mobiles listed the P4R at ₹19,990 and the Redmi 17 5G at ₹23,999 on Amazon, a ₹4,009 gap. These are marketplace snapshots, not official launch prices, and they vary by seller, offers and variant. Confirm that you are comparing the same RAM and storage tier, and check the checkout price including bank offers before deciding.

Which should you pick?
- Choose the realme P4R 5G if you want the biggest battery, the highest refresh rate, IP65 protection and the lower price.
- Choose the Redmi 17 5G if you value a longer promised update window, a larger screen, or reverse charging, and are fine paying about ₹4,000 more at the snapshot prices.
