No—the realme GT 7 Pro does not have an “ultrasonic periscope camera.” That phrase combines two separate components: a 50MP Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto camera and an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor. The telephoto camera uses folded optics and optical image stabilization (OIS); the ultrasonic technology is used for biometric unlocking, not photography.
What the phrase actually means
Realme lists the camera system and biometric hardware separately in its specifications (official Singapore specifications). “Periscope” describes the camera’s folded optical path, which lets a longer lens fit inside a thin phone. “Ultrasonic” describes the fingerprint reader beneath the display, which uses sound waves to read a fingerprint. They do not share a module or imaging technology.
The GT 7 Pro was announced for a November 26, 2024 launch and runs realme UI 6.0 based on Android 15 in the published specifications (Realme announcement). The “Pro” is part of the phone’s model name, not a separate ultrasonic camera category.
Realme GT 7 Pro camera specifications
| Camera | Published specification | Practical role |
|---|---|---|
| Main | 50MP Sony IMX906, 24mm equivalent, f/1.8, OIS | General photography and low-light scenes |
| Periscope telephoto | 50MP Sony IMX882, 73mm equivalent, f/2.65, OIS; approximately 3× optical reach; 1/1.95-inch sensor; 32.8° field of view; 1G3P lens | Portraits and distant subjects |
| Ultrawide | 8MP, 16mm equivalent, 112° field of view, f/2.2 | Landscapes, interiors and group scenes |
| Front | 16MP, f/2.45 | Selfies and video calls |
The detailed Singapore page gives the periscope sensor size as 1/1.95 inch. A Middle East/Africa marketing page displays a malformed “1/95” string, so the complete specification is the safer reference (regional marketing page). The specification also lists 4096 × 3072 output for the 50MP cameras—about 12.6 megapixels—so a 50MP sensor does not mean every saved image is a full 50MP file.

How the 3× periscope camera works
Instead of pointing the telephoto lens straight through the phone, a periscope design redirects light sideways with a prism or mirror and uses a longer internal optical path. The 73mm-equivalent focal length is roughly three times the 24mm-equivalent main camera’s view, producing the phone’s native 3× optical perspective.
That focal length is useful for flattering portraits, pets, travel details, stage events and subjects that are too far away for the main camera. It also compresses foreground and background more than a wide main lens. OIS helps counter hand shake at this magnification, but it cannot freeze a moving person, animal or vehicle; shutter speed and available light still determine motion blur.
What 3×, 6×, 30×, 60× and 120× mean
Realme advertises selectable zoom steps including 0.6×, 1×, 3×, 6×, 30×, 60× and 120×, plus an AI Zoom Ultra Clarity feature (Realme regional page). Only about 3× corresponds to the periscope’s native optical focal length.

Image quality: daylight, portraits and low light
Daylight and 3× detail
Independent reviews generally find the 3× telephoto detailed and useful in good light. Gadgets 360 reports strong daylight performance and says 6× images can retain enough detail to remain usable (review). Android Authority includes 1×, 3× and 6× comparisons and likewise treats the telephoto as a strength (review). These are review observations, not guarantees for every scene, firmware version or regional build.
Portraits
The 73mm perspective usually produces more natural facial proportions than the main camera held close to a subject. Keep enough distance for the phone to focus and watch hair edges and skin texture, where computational sharpening or portrait segmentation can become visible.

Low light
The f/2.65 telephoto aperture admits less light than the main camera’s f/1.8 lens. In dim interiors or at night, expect more noise, softer detail and slower shutter speeds than at 1×. OIS reduces hand movement, but a moving subject can still blur. Color, exposure and processing may also differ between the main and telephoto sensors.
Ultrawide trade-off
The 8MP ultrawide is much less ambitious on paper than the two 50MP cameras. Buyers who frequently shoot architecture, interiors or sweeping landscapes should not assume it will match the detail, dynamic range or low-light quality of the main and telephoto cameras.

That page does not say which rear camera supports every combination. Do not assume the periscope is available in 8K or 4K60, or that lens switching is seamless. Check the camera app on the exact regional model and firmware for telephoto availability, stabilization, focus behavior, exposure jumps and color consistency.
The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor
The ultrasonic sensor sits under the display and reads the ridges of a finger acoustically. It is unrelated to the camera’s Sony sensor, lens, OIS or zoom processing. Realme’s India page promotes underwater unlocking and a claimed 0.1-second unlock time; those are manufacturer claims rather than independently measured results (India product page). A water-resistance rating or an underwater mode should not be interpreted as permission for unrestricted underwater use.

Confirm the market, model number and seller before buying. The Singapore specification lists a 6500mAh typical (6310mAh rated) battery, while the India page lists 5800mAh typical. Network bands, NFC, software features, charger and case contents, warranty and availability can also vary. Camera descriptions cited here consistently identify the 50MP IMX882 3× periscope, but regional software can change behavior.

Do not confuse the GT 7 Pro with the Chinese GT 7 Pro Racing Edition: Realme’s Racing Edition specification lists a different rear-camera arrangement without an equivalent 50MP IMX882 periscope (Racing Edition specifications). The standard Chinese GT 7 Pro specification is here: Realme China.
Who should value this camera?
- Good fit: buyers wanting a high-performance phone with a genuinely useful 3× OIS telephoto for portraits, travel, pets and daylight events.
- Proceed carefully: people who prioritize a best-in-class ultrawide, dependable night telephoto or extreme long-range optical zoom.
- Do not buy for: an “ultrasonic camera” feature; no such camera is specified.
Imported units also require checking carrier compatibility, official warranty coverage, regional software and return terms. No current U.S. price is established by the cited pages, so evaluate the exact regional offer rather than relying on a generic dollar figure.
Verdict
The realme GT 7 Pro has a capable 50MP Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto with OIS and approximately 3× optical reach. Its 6× output can be useful in good light, while 30×–120× modes are computational zoom. The phone’s ultrasonic component is the under-display fingerprint reader. Treating those as one “ultrasonic periscope camera” is a specification error.
