Which phone is cheaper?
In 91mobiles’ October 7, 2026 Amazon India snapshot, the realme 16x 5G was ₹1,000 less than the Redmi 17 5G. The difference between live listings may be different: check the price, seller, and variant on the day you purchase. Compare like-for-like storage and RAM where possible, since the listed configurations differ.

realme India’s store lists a 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage model, but the price was not exposed in the reviewed store listing. The comparison’s Amazon price should therefore not be treated as a universal realme price.
Display: larger screen or higher refresh rate?
The Redmi’s listed screen is 6.9 inches, compared with 6.8 inches for the realme. Xiaomi India specifies a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and says it is adjustable for supported apps; 91mobiles lists the realme at 144 Hz. On paper, the Redmi offers a slightly larger screen, while the realme has the higher listed maximum refresh rate. These figures alone do not establish which display looks better or feels smoother in everyday use.

Battery and charging: check the realme market specification
Xiaomi India lists a 7,900 mAh typical battery for the Redmi 17 5G and 45 W charging. For the realme 16x 5G, the sources differ: 91mobiles lists 7,000 mAh, while realme’s official Brazil specification page gives 6,600 mAh typical capacity and 6,450 mAh nominal capacity, with charging up to 45 W. These are figures from different sources and markets; they should not be silently combined into a single universal capacity.
The Redmi has the higher capacity in the cited Xiaomi India specification, but capacity and charging wattage do not establish real-world battery life or charging time. No comparable endurance or charging test is available here.

Performance: chipset names are not a head-to-head result
The realme is listed with a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 and the Redmi with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. Both are listed with a maximum CPU frequency of 2.4 GHz, but clock speed alone cannot establish equal or better performance. 91mobiles reports an AnTuTu score of 632,291 for the realme but does not provide a Redmi score, so that figure is not a like-for-like benchmark comparison.
No comparative testing establishes which phone is faster in apps, games, or sustained use. Treat the chipset specifications as identification, not a performance verdict.

Both phones are listed with a 50 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera. Megapixel counts do not show how image processing, low-light photography, video, or camera software compare; no comparative camera testing is established.

Software updates and long-term use
Xiaomi says the Redmi 17 5G runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 and is backed by four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. This is Xiaomi’s stated support commitment, not an independently verified guarantee. 91mobiles reports two years of OS and three years of security support for the realme 16x 5G; those durations were not verified on the realme official specification page reviewed.
On the stated support periods, Xiaomi’s commitment is longer. If update longevity matters, verify the terms for the exact phone and region with the manufacturer before buying.
