Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIn Chapter 2 of Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways, the Village Cliffs stone dais opens the locked cliffside door when you select three positions: top middle, bottom right, and left. The order does not matter. Select those three matching symbols, and the mechanism unlocks the route toward the Church.

You can press the three buttons in any sequence. The puzzle checks whether the correct set of symbols is selected, not the order in which you enter them. If the door does not open, clear your selections and make sure all three positions match exactly.

Where to find the three environmental clues
The symbols are yellow paintings placed around the cliff area. You do not need to find them in a particular order, but the third clue is easy to miss because it only forms a complete image from above.
First symbol: beside the input machine
Stand at the stone dais and inspect the area immediately to the right of the altar or pedestal where the symbols are entered. The first yellow marking is painted on the nearby stone surface. This clue corresponds to one of the three positions on the dais.
#1 Best Overall
- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

Second symbol: the opposite cliff
Turn around from the dais rather than continuing toward the locked door. Look across the gap at the opposite cliff, near the higher catwalk and the route used for grappling. The yellow painting is visible on that rock face.
Third symbol: above the wooden walkways
Use the grapple to reach the upper wooden catwalk. Follow it to the dead end, then look down over the platforms below. The yellow design is split across several layers of the wooden walkways. From ground level it looks incomplete; from the upper viewpoint, the pieces line up into one symbol.

Step-by-step walkthrough
- Reach the Village Cliffs area in Chapter 2 and approach the locked cliffside door.
- Interact with the stone dais beside the door to display the symbol-input grid.
- If you want to solve it without the direct answer, inspect the stone beside the dais, the opposite cliff near the upper grapple route, and the layered wooden platforms above.
- On the input grid, select top middle.
- Select bottom right.
- Select left.
- Confirm the completed selection. The stone mechanism activates and the cliffside door opens.
Why the wooden-platform clue is confusing
The upper-walkway marking is deliberately distributed across different elevations. Individual boards show only fragments, so looking at the platforms from the lower path can make the clue appear to be several unrelated marks. Grappling to the upper catwalk and looking down gives the intended perspective: the fragments align visually as a single yellow symbol. If you are missing one clue, this overhead view is the most important place to check.

Once the three correct positions are selected, the door provides the route onward through the cliffs and toward the Church section of the chapter. There are no reported difficulty-mode variations for this symbol set, so the same three positions apply regardless of the game’s difficulty setting.

Quick troubleshooting
- Nothing happens: verify that all three selections are active; one incorrect or missing symbol prevents the door from opening.
- You pressed the symbols in another order: that is acceptable. Order is irrelevant as long as the final set is top middle, bottom right, and left.
- The third symbol is not visible: grapple to the upper wooden catwalk, walk to its dead end, and look down rather than searching the lower route.
- You cannot find the dais: look beside the locked cliff door in Village Cliffs; the symbol panel is mounted on the stone pedestal there.
