Indian markets enter 5–9 October with three key watchpoints: the RBI’s scheduled monetary policy decision, TCS’s expected September-quarter results, and volatile crude prices. The RBI meeting dates are confirmed, but the widely reported rate-hike call is only an expectation. TCS’s reported results date has not been confirmed in the calendar excerpt reviewed, and the oil figures below are dated snapshots—not live prices or a forecast.
What matters this week, and when
| Event | Timing | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| RBI Monetary Policy Committee meeting | 5–7 October 2026 | Dates appear in the RBI’s published 2026–27 schedule, as reproduced by Track RBI. The policy decision is due Wednesday, 7 October, according to week-ahead coverage. |
| TCS September-quarter results | Thursday, 8 October, reported | The date is reported by Upstox, but the TCS investor-calendar excerpt reviewed does not confirm an 8 October event. |
| Crude oil and supply news | Throughout the week | Prices were volatile in the prior week. Upstox reported a completed-week MCX October contract settlement; it is not a live quote or a reliable forecast. |
The main distinction for investors is between scheduled events and reported expectations: the RBI’s meeting is on the calendar, while the outcome is unknown; TCS’s date is media-reported rather than confirmed by the calendar excerpt; and crude can move with supply developments, geopolitics and broader risk sentiment.

RBI policy: meeting dates are set, decision is not
What the RBI has decided so far
The MPC is scheduled to meet from 5 to 7 October, according to the 2026–27 schedule reproduced by Track RBI. At its previous meeting, held 3–5 August, the RBI retained the repo rate at 5.25% and kept a neutral stance. The resolution, reproduced by Track RBI, cited uncertainty around growth and inflation alongside crude prices, geopolitical developments, monsoon risks and global trade policy: August MPC resolution.

Mint reported on 4 October that the RBI was widely expected to raise the repo rate by 25 basis points, to 5.50%, and described this as a possible first hike since February 2023. That is a forecast reported by Mint, not a decision announced by the RBI or an independently verified measure of consensus. Mint also reported retail inflation at 4.82% in August, up from 4.45% in July. Mint’s 4 October report
#1 Best Overall
For markets, the policy question is how the RBI weighs inflation risks against uncertainty about growth. A rate increase would not be established until the RBI announces its decision; the forecast should not be treated as a commitment.
TCS results: reported for 8 October, not confirmed in the calendar excerpt
Upstox reported that Tata Consultancy Services is expected to release its September-quarter results on Thursday, 8 October, opening the large Indian IT earnings season. The TCS investor calendar excerpt lists a Q1 FY27 release on 9 July 2026 and a Q2 FY26 release on 9 October 2025, but does not list the reported 8 October 2026 event. Crude oil: volatile prices matter, but the snapshot is not a forecast
Upstox’s 4 October week-ahead report said crude was volatile during the prior week, with the MCX 19 October contract settling at ₹9,008 per barrel, up 1.8%, and crude above US$100. Those are dated reported observations, not current live quotes. The report linked the week’s moves to Gulf supply developments and geopolitical risk, and noted that oil is relevant to the rupee and inflation. Upstox, 4 October 2026
Before Asian markets opened on 4 October, Upstox reported that seven core OPEC+ producers were due to meet that day. The report described an expectation that November production targets would remain unchanged, while a separate cut of about 2 million barrels per day would continue through the end of 2026. The eventual meeting outcome is not established here, so this should be read only as the pre-meeting expectation. Reuters, 4 October 2026
Supply decisions are only one influence on crude. Geopolitical risk and demand conditions can also affect prices, so neither the reported settlement nor a pre-meeting expectation determines the direction of oil or Indian markets this week.
Where markets stood entering the week
Upstox reported that the NIFTY 50 closed at 22,421, down 3.1% over the prior week, while the SENSEX closed at 71,909, down 2.7%. It described an eight-week losing streak, foreign selling, a weaker rupee, crude above US$100 and US 10-year Treasury yields at a 24-year high as pressures on risk sentiment. Only 8% of NIFTY 50 constituents were above their 50-day moving average as of 1 October, according to the same report. These are dated market observations, not a prediction for the coming week. Together, these figures describe a weak and narrow market backdrop going into the week. They do not establish how the indices will react to the policy decision, company results or oil developments; each can produce a different response as new information arrives.
Quick Recap
How to read the week’s signals
- Policy and inflation: compare the RBI’s eventual decision and rationale with the reported inflation figures and growth concerns.
- Company performance and external pressure: assess any TCS results against the company-specific measures markets are watching, while keeping broader risk conditions in view.
- Oil supply and other drivers: distinguish any confirmed OPEC+ action from pre-meeting expectations, and remember that geopolitics and demand can also move crude.
- Confirmed events and forecasts: treat the scheduled MPC dates as established, but the rate call, TCS date and oil direction with the qualifications above.
