The Razer Viper V4 Pro is a strong fit for competitive players who want a very light, low-profile symmetrical mouse for claw or fingertip grip. Its standout tradeoffs are loud clicks, no Bluetooth, limited onboard controls, and a premium price. The 8,000 Hz polling ceiling is optional rather than essential: Razer’s advertised battery maximum falls from up to 180 hours at 1,000 Hz to up to 45 hours at 8,000 Hz.
What are the Viper V4 Pro’s main pros and cons?
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very light: manufacturer specifications list 49 g for black and 50 g for white, excluding cable and dongle. | Loud main clicks, which can be distracting in quiet rooms. |
| Independent testing reports exceptional raw performance, low and consistent click latency, and strong sensor performance. | No Bluetooth; connectivity is wired or Razer HyperSpeed wireless. |
| Low-profile symmetrical shape designed for claw and fingertip grips; RTINGS describes it as comfortable and accommodating. | Right-handed design only, with no left-handed version. |
| Up to 8,000 Hz polling is supported in wired and wireless modes. | High polling reduces the manufacturer’s advertised maximum battery life, and many players may not need 8,000 Hz. |
| Good build quality; the scroll encoder and optical switches have durability-focused specifications. | Six programmable controls and one onboard profile make it less flexible for productivity than some alternatives. |
| Refines the Viper V3 Pro with lower weight, longer advertised battery life, and an optical scroll encoder. | It is an iterative update, so the improvements may not justify the cost for V3 Pro owners. |
How does it perform for competitive gaming?
RTINGS reports exceptional raw performance, low and consistent click latency, and strong sensor performance. It also reports that the mouse can reach 8,000 Hz polling in both wired and wireless use. Those are independent review findings; the maximum DPI, speed, and acceleration figures below are manufacturer specifications, not a recommendation to use those settings.

Razer lists a maximum of 50,000 DPI, 930 IPS speed, and 90 G acceleration. Those ceilings are unlikely to decide a purchase on their own. For most buyers, the more practical points are the mouse’s low weight, shape, click response, and whether its controls and connectivity fit their setup. See RTINGS’ Viper V4 Pro review for its independent assessment.

Razer describes the Viper V4 Pro as a right-handed symmetrical mouse optimized for claw and fingertip grips. Its low-profile shape is not the same as a taller, more sculpted ergonomic mouse. RTINGS finds it comfortable and accommodating across hand sizes and grip styles, but fit remains personal: if possible, compare its profile with a mouse you already find comfortable.

Razer specifies 49 g for the black model and 50 g for the white model, excluding cable and dongle. The small color-related difference is a specification, not a meaningful performance distinction for most buyers. A very light mouse can make rapid repositioning easier, but weight preference is subjective; some players prefer a heavier, more planted feel.
What are the practical tradeoffs?
Clicks are loud
RTINGS and TechRadar both call out the loud main clicks. This is worth considering if you play or work in a shared room, take calls near your desk, or simply prefer a quieter mouse.
There is no Bluetooth
The Viper V4 Pro supports Razer HyperSpeed wireless and wired connectivity, but not Bluetooth. If you need Bluetooth to switch among devices without using its wireless dongle, this is a concrete reason to choose another mouse.

Controls and onboard memory are limited
Razer lists six programmable controls and one onboard profile. The wheel has no tilt-scroll inputs, and the mouse lacks a secondary scroll wheel. That is sufficient for a focused gaming setup, but less convenient if you want extensive productivity shortcuts or multiple stored configurations.
It is designed for right-handed use
Although its outline is symmetrical, Razer lists the form factor as right-handed, and TechRadar notes there is no left-handed version. Left-handed buyers should not assume a symmetrical shell means the buttons and ergonomics work equally well for either hand.
Is 8,000 Hz polling worth using?
Razer advertises up to 8,000 Hz polling, but a high polling ceiling is not essential for most PC gamers. It also comes with a battery tradeoff: Razer’s stated maximums are up to 180 hours at 1,000 Hz and up to 45 hours at 8,000 Hz. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed runtimes; actual battery life depends on settings and use. If longer time between charges matters more than the highest polling option, 1,000 Hz is the more relevant figure.

- PRO-LEVEL SPEED WITH ULTRA-LIGHT CONTROL — Weighs just 56g with re-engineered ergonomic shape, enabling faster swipes and precise tracking for FPS, esports tournaments, and competitive gaming performance
- LIGHTNING-FAST WIRELESS PERFORMANCE — Razer HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2 delivers lower latency and ultra-stable connectivity with up to 8000 Hz polling for responsive input in high-stakes gaming scenarios
- MAXIMUM AIM PRECISION AND TRACKING — 45K DPI Focus Pro Optical Sensor Gen-2 with 900 IPS and 99.8% accuracy ensures reliable tracking across surfaces for shooters, MOBAs, and precision gameplay
- MORE CONTROL WITH OPTICAL SCROLL AND SWITCHES — Optical scroll wheel and Gen-4 optical switches provide tactile feedback and durability up to 100 million clicks for consistent control during intense matches
- LONG-LASTING BATTERY FOR EXTENDED PLAY — Up to 150 hours at 1000 Hz lets you game longer without interruptions, ideal for long sessions or tournament play
Likewise, treat the 50,000 DPI maximum as a specification ceiling rather than an everyday target. A buyer who will use a lower polling rate and ordinary sensitivity settings should not pay a premium solely for the largest numbers on the spec sheet.
How is it different from the Viper V3 Pro?
RTINGS characterizes the V4 Pro as a modest, iterative update rather than a radical redesign. The changes include lower weight, longer advertised battery life, an optical scroll encoder in place of the V3 Pro’s mechanical encoder, and some sensor or motion-performance gains. Razer also specifies Gen-4 optical switches rated for 100 million clicks. That rating and the encoder change express design intent; they are not a guarantee of an individual mouse’s lifespan or an independent durability test.
For a new buyer, the V4 Pro’s combination of light weight and competitive performance may be compelling. If you already own the V3 Pro, weigh those refinements against the cost of replacing a mouse that still meets your needs. RTINGS’ review and comparison coverage discusses the generational changes.

How should you compare it with other gaming mice?
Choose by shape and features before headline sensor numbers. RTINGS contrasts the Viper’s low-profile symmetrical form with the more ergonomic DeathAdder V4 Pro and notes that the Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE has a different hump and shape, along with quieter inductive or haptic clicks. Those are different priorities, not automatically better or worse choices.
- Shape: favor the Viper if you want a low-profile symmetrical form; consider a fuller ergonomic or differently shaped mouse if that better matches your grip.
- Sound and click feel: the Viper’s clicks are loud; quieter click technology may matter more in a shared or quiet space.
- Connectivity: make sure wired and HyperSpeed wireless are enough if Bluetooth is absent.
- Battery and polling: decide whether the 8,000 Hz option is valuable enough to accept the shorter advertised maximum runtime.
- Value and support: RTINGS notes that less expensive mice can approach its performance. Check current local offers, warranty terms, and regional support before choosing.
What does it cost?
TechRadar reported launch pricing of $159.99 in the US, £159.99 in the UK, and AU$279.95 in Australia. Those are launch prices, not a guarantee of current pricing or availability. Check the price and color options in your region before buying. Macworld also frames the mouse as costly; see its review for its take on the product’s value and Mac limitations.
