The Razer Soma Chroma is worth considering if integrated, reactive RGB lighting is a priority in your gaming setup. It combines that lighting with a built-in fixed lumbar arch, a foam seat and wireless connections, but it costs about US$500 at the prices reported in 2026 and needs a separate USB-C power source for its lights. Reviewers generally praise the seat, while disagreeing about back and neck support. Buyers seeking extensive ergonomic adjustment should be cautious.
What makes the Soma Chroma different?
Razer announced the Soma Chroma on June 25, 2026, describing it as the company’s first RGB gaming chair. Its main draw is lighting integrated into the chair and designed to react to on-screen activity. Razer says the lighting works with more than 300 games and offers 16.8 million colors and 10 presets through Razer Synapse. These are manufacturer feature claims, not independent measurements. Razer’s product page and launch announcement describe the feature set.

The chair also has a steel frame and five-star steel base, dual-density cold-cured foam, a built-in lumbar arch, a control panel and recline up to 155 degrees. Razer calls the design ergonomic, but those descriptions should not be read as evidence of a medical or universally suitable posture benefit. The lighting is the defining feature; the other specifications do not make it a highly adjustable ergonomic chair.
Is the lighting useful enough to justify the price?
That depends on whether the light is part of the experience you want. Windows Central describes the Soma Chroma as an enthusiast product with well-executed RGB, while TechRadar sees the lighting as most compelling for streamers whose audience can see the chair. If you want an illuminated setup that responds to games, the integration is the point. If you mainly want a comfortable, adjustable chair, the feature may not justify paying a premium.
#1 Best Overall
- BUILT-IN LUMBAR SUPPORT — Designed with an integrated lumbar arch that gently supports the lower back and encourages a neutral sitting position, minimizing back fatigue over long periods
- WIDENED SEAT BASE WITH REDUCED EDGES — Sculpted with reduced edges to guide the body towards the center for optimal pressure distribution; enjoy greater flexibility in sitting with a widened seat base
- CONTOURED HIGH DENSITY FOAM CUSHIONS — Experience a greater level of lower body support and stability with thick cushion padding that reduces pressure and molds to unique body shapes
- ADJUSTABLE 152-DEGREE RECLINE — Lean back and set the ideal angle with a backrest that has an adjustable recline of up to 152 degrees
- 2D ARMRESTS — With armrests that can be adjusted in height and rotated inwards or outwards, arms can be in a natural, relaxed position when gaming
Razer’s US product page listed the chair at US$499.99 when checked for the October 2026 coverage. TechRadar’s August 2026 review listed $500 in the US and £500 in the UK. These are dated, regional prices, not a guarantee of the price or availability where you shop. Tom’s Hardware called the premium over the Iskur V2 X debatable, while Windows Central found the Soma Chroma most persuasive for enthusiasts already invested in Razer’s ecosystem. Check the current local listing before deciding.
How comfortable is it for long sessions?
Reviews are positive about the seat itself: TechRadar, Windows Central and Tom’s Guide each describe the foam seat as comfortable. Those are individual reviewer impressions, not results from a controlled comparison or a guarantee that the chair will fit you.

Back and neck support are more uncertain
The lumbar support is a fixed arch, not an adjustable lumbar mechanism. Tom’s Hardware highlights the absence of lumbar adjustment and 3D armrests; Tom’s Guide is particularly critical of neck and lumbar support. Windows Central reports a positive personal experience. Since these assessments conflict, try the chair if possible and consider whether a fixed lumbar shape suits your back and preferred sitting position.
Adjustments and movement
PC Gamer reports that the armrests adjust for height and swivel, while the lumbar curve cannot be changed. TechRadar characterizes the armrests as two-dimensional and reports stiff casters. The chair reclines from 90 to 155 degrees, according to PC Gamer; a wide recline range does not compensate for limited adjustment in other areas.

Does it need a power bank?
It needs external USB-C power for the lighting: reviewers report that there is no built-in battery. Razer says you can connect it to a wall outlet or use a standard power bank. Windows Central reported that Razer recommended a power bank rated at 20,000 mAh or more, 20 W or higher, and PD 2.0 or later. Treat those figures as launch-coverage guidance and confirm current requirements with Razer before buying a power bank. A suitable power bank or wall adapter is an additional setup consideration, not an included feature.
“Wireless” refers to the chair’s data connections, not power. Razer says it connects to a PC through a 2.4 GHz USB dongle and to a mobile device over Bluetooth using the Razer Furniture App. The lighting still needs a USB-C power source, so plan for a cable or a separate power bank if you want to avoid connecting it to a wall.

What should you check before ordering?

- Lumbar shape: The lumbar arch is fixed. Consider whether you prefer a defined contour or need adjustable support.
- Head support: TechRadar reports that a headrest cushion is sold separately. Confirm current availability and compatibility if you want one.
- Power: Decide whether you will use a wall outlet or supply a compatible USB-C power bank yourself.
- Price and purchase terms: Verify current price, regional availability, included accessories and return terms with the seller. The figures cited above are not current-price guarantees.
Verdict: who is the Razer Soma Chroma for?
Choose the Soma Chroma if reactive RGB is a feature you actively want, you value its Razer-centered setup, and its fixed lumbar profile and limited armrest adjustment suit you. The comfortable seat reported by several reviewers is encouraging, but differing back and neck assessments make trying the fit worthwhile. If your priority is extensive ergonomic tuning or getting the most chair for the money, the Soma Chroma is a harder case to make: its premium is tied closely to its lighting, and you must provide power for that lighting separately.
