Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Choose BlackShark for competitive play, Kraken for immersive gaming and comfort, and Barracuda when one headset must cover gaming at home and Bluetooth listening on the move. That is Razer’s own family-level guidance, not an independent performance verdict. The exact model matters more than the family name: microphone construction, wireless modes, battery conditions, weight, controls and platform support change from one SKU to another.
Before buying, decide whether you need a detachable or retractable boom, 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth together, wired fallback, active noise cancellation (ANC), haptics, RGB lighting or a lightweight design. Then verify the selected model’s specification page and regional compatibility. Which Razer headset should you buy?
Pick BlackShark for esports and competitive performance
BlackShark is the line Razer positions toward esports. The emphasis is audio performance, microphone clarity and sound isolation. In the current family guide, the BlackShark V3 Pro is the example with the broadest feature set: Gen-2 HyperSpeed wireless, a detachable 12 mm HyperClear Full Band microphone, hybrid ANC, four connectivity modes, THX Spatial Audio and pro-tuned FPS profiles with custom EQ. Those features belong to the V3 Pro model; they should not be assumed for every BlackShark headset.
Choose this direction if positional cues, a removable boom and competitive voice communication matter more than mobile convenience or decorative features. Confirm the exact V3, V3 Pro or V3 X HyperSpeed specifications before ordering, because the family includes different generations and connection options.
#1 Best Overall
- TRIFORCE 50MM DRIVERS GEN-2 — Tuned for improved clarity and positional performance, the Gen-2 drivers not only deliver more powerful audio, but have an improved soundstage to clearly hear every footstep and audio cue
- DETACHABLE HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID 9.9MM MIC — The mic’s unidirectional pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise, while its detachable design allows for easy removal when not in use
- HYPERSPEED WIRELESS — Featuring an ultra-fast 2.4 GHz wireless connection, enjoy high-performance, low-latency competitive play with sound that’s perfectly synced to the game
- 3 MODES OF CONNECTIVITY — Gain the competitive edge when gaming on PC, console or mobile; seamlessly switch between 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth with SmartSwitch Dual Wireless or stay plugged in for non-stop gaming via USB
- 7.1 SURROUND SOUND — With our advanced 7.1 surround sound, enjoy true-to-life acoustics that optimizes the game’s sound design to hear everything like being right in the middle of it all
Pick Kraken for immersive gaming and comfort
Kraken is Razer’s immersion-focused family, described as using custom-tuned audio with an emphasis on comfort and durability. The current V4 range includes the feature-rich Kraken V4 Pro, wireless Kraken V4 and wired Kraken V4 X. These are not interchangeable: the Pro adds a control hub and haptics, the V4 prioritizes long wireless endurance, and the V4 X removes the battery entirely in favor of a cable.
Kraken makes sense for story games, general PC or console use and long sessions where fit and a fuller presentation are your priorities. Compare the model’s weight and included hardware rather than treating “Kraken” as one specification.
Pick Barracuda for a gaming-and-mobile hybrid
Barracuda is designed for home gaming and mobile entertainment. The reviewed Barracuda product supports 2.4 GHz wireless through USB Type-C, Bluetooth 5.2 and a 3.5 mm analog connection. Its SmartSwitch feature can keep a 2.4 GHz device and a Bluetooth device connected at the same time, allowing you to move between them without repeatedly pairing.

How to decide by connectivity and platform
Wireless labels are not interchangeable. A 2.4 GHz USB dongle generally targets low-latency gaming; Bluetooth is convenient for phones and tablets; USB audio is a wired digital path; and 3.5 mm analog works only when the source has a compatible jack or adapter. Simultaneous connections can be useful, but they also create more pairing and switching variables.
- List every device. Write down your PC, console, handheld, phone and tablet. Include whether each device has USB-A, USB-C, Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm jack.
- Choose the primary gaming path. Select 2.4 GHz when low-latency wireless is important, USB when you want a cable, or 3.5 mm when the device or controller supports analog audio.
- Add mobile requirements. If a phone or tablet is part of the routine, confirm Bluetooth on the exact SKU. For Barracuda, SmartSwitch is useful only when both a 2.4 GHz device and a Bluetooth device are genuinely used.
- Check console rules. A USB connector does not guarantee that every console accepts the headset, and a 3.5 mm plug may depend on the controller. Read the model’s compatibility list for your console edition and region.
- Confirm included adapters. The Kraken V4 X comparison specifies USB Type-C or Type-A through its included adapter. Do not assume another model includes the same adapter, extension or hub.
Microphones, ANC and isolation are different features
Microphone design is a major reason to choose one family over another. The BlackShark V3 Pro uses a detachable 12 mm boom, so you can remove it when carrying the headset or replace the microphone path only if Razer lists a compatible part. Other models may use retractable or integrated microphones; verify the mechanism rather than inferring it from the family name.
ANC concerns sound entering your ears from the environment. Microphone noise cancellation concerns what your teammates hear from your room. They solve different problems. The Barracuda page describes noise-cancelling microphones while listing passive noise isolation for the headphones; that is not the same as headphone ANC. BlackShark V3 Pro is the model in this evidence set explicitly listed with hybrid ANC.
For an open office, commuting or nearby household noise, look for headphone ANC and check whether it remains active in the connection mode you plan to use. For keyboard clicks, fans or speech leaking into chat, prioritize the microphone’s noise-processing description and test it with your voice software. Neither specification guarantees a particular measured reduction.

Battery life, weight and feature trade-offs
Published endurance changes dramatically with lighting, haptics and simultaneous radios. Kraken V4 Pro’s 50-hour figure applies with haptics and lighting off on 2.4 GHz; enabling both reduces the stated maximum to 13 hours. Running 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth together gives a stated maximum of 45 hours when haptics and lighting are off. Kraken V4 lists 70 hours with lighting off and 35 hours with lighting on. Barracuda’s page says up to 40 hours without the same detailed test conditions.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →These are manufacturer figures under specified conditions, not a promise of runtime in your exact volume, codec, lighting or software configuration. If charging interruptions are unacceptable, a wired Kraken V4 X removes battery management entirely.
Weight also needs context. Kraken V4 Pro is listed at 397 g excluding its OLED Control Hub, Kraken V4 at 350 g and Kraken V4 X at 310 g. A comparison that includes the Pro’s hub in one model but not a cable or adapter in another would be misleading, so check what each manufacturer number includes before using it to predict comfort.

A practical buying checklist
- Identify your main use: esports, immersive single-player gaming or mixed gaming and mobile listening.
- Write down required connections: 2.4 GHz USB, Bluetooth, USB wired, 3.5 mm or more than one at once.
- Choose microphone hardware deliberately: detachable boom, retractable boom or integrated mic.
- Separate headphone ANC from microphone noise cancellation when evaluating noisy environments.
- Compare battery figures only with their lighting, haptic and radio conditions attached.
- Compare weight using the same basis, especially the Kraken V4 Pro’s hub exclusion.
- Verify operating-system, console and port compatibility for the exact SKU.
- Check regional availability, price, warranty and replacement-part stock before payment.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every family model has the flagship feature
Statements such as “BlackShark has ANC” or “Kraken lasts 70 hours” overgeneralize one model’s specification. Name the exact headset whenever you cite a feature or number.
Comparing battery numbers without conditions
A 70-hour Kraken V4 claim with lighting off is not directly comparable to a Kraken V4 Pro figure with haptics and RGB enabled. Keep the operating condition in the same sentence or table cell.
Confusing a dongle with universal compatibility
USB Type-C or Type-A describes the connector, not guaranteed console support. Confirm the platform list and whether an adapter, hub or firmware update is required.
Treating passive isolation as ANC
Ear-cup sealing can reduce outside sound passively, while ANC uses electronics to counter it. The Barracuda listing distinguishes passive headphone isolation from its noise-cancelling microphones; do not market that as headphone ANC.

Ignoring mobile behavior
Bluetooth may be present but not simultaneous with 2.4 GHz on every model. If call alerts or phone audio must coexist with game sound, select a model that explicitly documents that behavior, such as Barracuda’s SmartSwitch implementation.
Using a regional catalog as a global promise
The Europe catalog is a snapshot for that market. Check your country’s product page for stock, language, warranty, platform bundle and replacement parts. Barracuda’s page says replacement parts are available, but compatibility and stock still need to be checked for your exact model.
Bottom-line choice
Buy BlackShark V3 Pro when competitive play, a detachable boom, hybrid ANC and advanced wireless controls are your priorities. Buy Kraken V4 for long wireless gaming without the Pro’s haptic-control-hub complexity, or Kraken V4 Pro when those extras and four connection paths justify its weight and shorter feature-on runtime. Buy Kraken V4 X when a 310 g wired headset is preferable to charging. Buy Barracuda when 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.2, 3.5 mm and SmartSwitch solve a real gaming-plus-mobile routine. In every case, verify the exact SKU, platform support and local availability before ordering.
