The Razer DeathAdder Elite is model RZ01-02010. Razer lists it as a Synapse 3-enabled mouse, while the current Synapse 4 application for Windows 10 and Windows 11 (x86-64) is backwards compatible with Synapse 3 devices. For an update or detection problem, install or repair Synapse through Razer’s official support route, connect the mouse directly to the computer, and restart when Windows asks. Do not look for a generic third-party driver package or force a firmware flash: Razer’s support material does not show a current model-specific firmware updater, and a Razer Support representative said on May 6, 2024, that no DeathAdder Elite firmware update was available at that time.
Confirm that you have the correct DeathAdder Elite
Before changing software, verify the exact model. The mouse covered here is the Razer DeathAdder Elite, model RZ01-02010. The model identifier may be printed on the underside label, on the original packaging, or in the purchase record. Several DeathAdder generations look similar but use different support packages, so do not select a driver or firmware tool for a different model.

What “driver update” means for this mouse
Windows can operate a basic USB mouse with its built-in HID (Human Interface Device) driver. That basic layer is separate from Razer’s configuration software. Synapse provides the model-specific functions most owners mean when they ask for a DeathAdder Elite driver: button remapping, profiles, sensitivity settings and lighting control. If the pointer moves but Synapse does not list the mouse, the Windows USB/HID connection may be working while the Razer software installation or service is not.
Firmware is different again. Firmware is code stored inside the mouse, and it is updated only with a model-specific updater supplied by Razer. Installing Synapse is not the same as flashing firmware.

Use Razer’s official Synapse route
Razer’s support page lists the DeathAdder Elite as Synapse 3 enabled. Razer also offers Synapse 4 for Windows 10 and Windows 11 on x86-64 systems and states that Synapse 4 is backwards compatible with Synapse 3 devices. That makes Synapse 4 the practical current path on a supported Windows installation, while the model’s documented support remains Synapse 3.
| Path | What is established | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Synapse 3 support | Razer lists the RZ01-02010 as Synapse 3 enabled. | Use the Razer support instructions associated with the device when Synapse 3 is required for your setup. |
| Synapse 4 | Available for Windows 10 and Windows 11 x86-64; backwards compatible with Synapse 3 devices. | Use on a supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 64-bit installation when you want the current Synapse application. |
| Model-specific firmware updater | No current DeathAdder Elite firmware build or updater is established in the reviewed support material. | Do not run an archived or third-party flasher unless Razer publishes a matching tool for RZ01-02010. |
Installation procedure
- Unplug the DeathAdder Elite from the computer.
- Open Razer’s official Synapse or product-support page and choose the compatible Synapse installation offered there. Avoid driver-aggregation sites and download pages that do not identify Razer as the publisher.
- Run the installer with an administrator account. Allow Windows to install the components it requests.
- When installation finishes, connect the mouse directly to a USB port on the computer rather than through a hub, monitor, keyboard pass-through, or docking station.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it. A restart allows the Razer services and USB device registration to load together.
- Open Synapse and wait for the device panel to populate. Select the DeathAdder Elite if it appears, then check that button, sensitivity and lighting controls are available.
Razer’s Synapse page tells users to make sure the device firmware is up to date before beginning. Read that instruction as a safety check, not as proof that an updater exists for every model. For this mouse, verify the live support page before attempting any firmware operation.

Fix a DeathAdder Elite that Synapse does not detect
Start with the USB connection
- Disconnect and reconnect the cable firmly at the mouse and computer.
- Try another USB port directly on the computer. If a desktop has both front and rear ports, test a rear motherboard port as well.
- Do not test through a hub or adapter until the mouse works directly.
- Check whether the optical sensor light and pointer movement respond. A completely unresponsive mouse points to a connection, cable or hardware problem rather than only a Synapse profile problem.
- Test the mouse on another Windows computer if one is available. This separates a computer-specific software issue from a problem that follows the mouse.
Check Windows’ device registration
With the mouse connected, open Device Manager (right-click Start, then choose Device Manager). Expand Mice and other pointing devices and, if necessary, Human Interface Devices. Look for a Razer entry or a HID-compliant mouse that appears when you connect the device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- If the entry has a warning icon, open its Properties and read the status on the General tab.
- In the device’s Driver tab, use Uninstall Device only for the affected mouse entry, then disconnect the mouse.
- Restart Windows, reconnect the mouse directly, and let Windows rediscover the basic HID device.
- Reopen Synapse after discovery completes. Do not remove unrelated keyboard, touchpad or other HID entries.
The exact labels can vary between Windows releases. If Device Manager does not refresh at all when the mouse is plugged in, changing Synapse versions will not repair a missing electrical or USB connection; continue with port and second-computer testing.

Perform a clean official software reinstall
- Close Synapse and exit any Razer processes shown in the notification area.
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on an older Windows build), uninstall the Razer Synapse components listed for your installation.
- Restart Windows. This clears services that may still hold the device connection.
- Download the current installer again from Razer’s official support route rather than reusing an old executable.
- Install the compatible Synapse path, connect the mouse directly when prompted, and restart once more if requested.
- Open Synapse and check detection before reconnecting hubs or other USB accessories.
If the normal uninstall leaves Synapse unable to detect the mouse, follow Razer Support’s current detection or clean-install guidance for the version you installed. Those instructions can change as Razer moves devices between Synapse releases, so use the live Razer procedure instead of copying a registry-cleaning recipe from an unofficial forum.
Separate a profile problem from a detection problem
If Synapse lists the mouse but a button or lighting setting does not apply, the driver connection is present. Select the device in Synapse, create a simple test profile, assign one button to a basic function, save it, and test again. If the device never appears in Synapse, profile changes cannot fix the underlying detection issue; return to the USB, Device Manager and clean-reinstall branches above.

Firmware update status for RZ01-02010
At the time covered by the available support statement, there was no dedicated current firmware update for the DeathAdder Elite. A Razer Support representative wrote on May 6, 2024: “There’s no available firmware update for the Razer DeathAdder Elite as of this moment.” That is a time-bounded statement, not a promise that the status can never change.

Decide whether the fault is software or hardware
| Symptom | Most useful next check | What the result suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Pointer works, but Synapse shows no mouse | Clean-reinstall the official Synapse package, then test a direct USB port. | The basic HID connection may work while Razer software or its service is damaged. |
| Mouse appears in Device Manager with a warning icon | Read the device status, uninstall only that entry, restart and reconnect. | Windows device registration or a driver state needs rebuilding. |
| No Device Manager refresh and no pointer movement | Try another direct USB port and a second Windows computer. | A cable, USB connection or mouse hardware fault becomes more likely. |
| Mouse works on another computer | Repair the original computer’s Synapse installation and USB/device registration. | The problem is likely local to the first Windows installation. |
| Mouse fails identically on multiple computers | Inspect the cable and connector for damage and consider hardware service or replacement. | Software changes are unlikely to restore a mouse that is not detected anywhere. |
What performance to expect from the Elite
Razer’s 2026 specifications list a 16,000 DPI optical sensor, tracking up to 450 inches per second, acceleration up to 50 G, a 1,000 Hz polling rate, seven programmable buttons and switches rated for a 50-million-click life cycle. Those figures describe the mouse hardware; they are not driver-update results and do not prove that a setting is active until Synapse detects the device.
| Specification | Razer-listed value |
|---|---|
| Optical sensor resolution | 16,000 DPI |
| Maximum tracking speed | 450 IPS |
| Maximum acceleration | 50 G |
| Polling rate | 1,000 Hz |
| Programmable buttons | Seven |
| Switch life cycle | 50 million clicks |
When replacement is more sensible than another driver attempt
A replacement is a separate purchasing decision, not an alternative firmware package. Consider it only after direct-USB testing, a second-computer test and an official Synapse reinstall. If the mouse is detected reliably but a single switch, cable or sensor behaves intermittently, software changes cannot repair worn or damaged hardware. Keep the RZ01-02010 model number when comparing a replacement so you do not accidentally buy a different DeathAdder revision and apply the wrong support instructions.
If the mouse works normally as a basic pointer but you only need configuration features, continue troubleshooting Synapse rather than replacing working hardware. If it is absent from Device Manager on more than one computer, stop repeating driver installs and arrange hardware service or choose a replacement.
