Choose the RayNeo GT if you want the brightest image, the lower weight, and screen-positioning modes built into the glasses. Choose the XREAL Air 2 Pro if you need electrochromic dimming, a bundled light shield, prescription-lens support, and simple external-display use with phones, consoles, or computers. Both glasses show a 46° field of view at 1920×1080 per eye, so everyday usability depends less on headline resolution than on brightness behavior, spatial anchoring, fit, and the accessories you must buy.
RayNeo GT and XREAL Air 2 Pro: the short answer
These are tethered display glasses rather than self-contained wireless computers. A USB-C or video adapter carries the image from a compatible phone, tablet, game console, laptop, or desktop. The glasses then act as a large private screen in front of your eyes.

| If your priority is… | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum perceived brightness and lighter hardware | RayNeo GT | RayNeo lists 1200 nits in non-pinned modes, and an independent review measured the glasses at 68 g. |
| A screen that can stay in one place without extra hardware | RayNeo GT | Steady, Pinned, and Follow 3DoF modes are built into the glasses. |
| Adjustable darkness in changing rooms | XREAL Air 2 Pro | Three electrochromic levels are built in: 0%, 35%, and 100%, plus a supplied light shield. |
| Prescription-friendly setup | XREAL Air 2 Pro | The package includes a detachable prescription frame, and XREAL documents insert options. |
| Lowest cited purchase price | XREAL Air 2 Pro | XREAL’s US page lists $249, while a 2026 review lists the GT at $299. Prices and stock can change by country and bundle. |
Brightness figures need careful interpretation. RayNeo calls 1200 nits a perceived-brightness figure for non-pinned modes and separately lists 336 nits for Pinned mode. XREAL lists up to 500 nits. Those labels are not a laboratory apples-to-apples comparison, but they indicate the GT has more headroom when you use its non-pinned viewing modes.

Both products therefore deliver a 1080p-class image per eye and the same 46° viewing angle. In practical terms, text, menus, and video occupy a similar portion of your vision. The GT’s listed 120 Hz 2D mode can make scrolling and cursor movement look smoother when the host device and application output a compatible signal. XREAL also supports up to 120 Hz in 2D, so neither model should be selected solely on refresh rate.

Brightness and text readability
RayNeo GT: more headroom, with a mode-dependent caveat
RayNeo’s product specifications list 1200 nits for non-pinned modes. That is the stronger brightness claim and is useful when overhead lighting or a bright window washes out a conventional wearable display. The same specification lists 336 nits in Pinned mode, so the GT does not deliver one fixed brightness number in every spatial mode.
A 2026 independent review found the GT’s text sharp, with no noticeable edge blur, and considered it comfortable for work as well as play. That makes the GT attractive for documents, code, spreadsheets, and browser tabs when you want a bright, legible image without carrying a separate display.
XREAL Air 2 Pro: lower listed brightness, predictable light management
XREAL lists up to 500 nits. That figure is lower than RayNeo’s 1200-nit non-pinned claim, but the Air 2 Pro addresses difficult lighting in another way: its lenses can electrically change their tint. You can select 0%, 35%, or 100% dimming, then add the supplied light shield when you need to block the room entirely.

For indoor work, the Air 2 Pro’s dimming may be more useful than a higher peak number. A bright office, train carriage, or sunlit room can make a transparent display distracting; reducing the outside view helps the virtual screen dominate without relying on maximum luminance. The trade-off is that you must choose the appropriate tint or attach the shield, whereas the GT has no electrochromic control.
What the numbers do not prove
Do not treat 1200 nits versus 500 nits as a standardized laboratory ranking. RayNeo labels its number as perceived brightness and gives a separate Pinned-mode value; XREAL publishes a maximum figure without the same mode breakdown. Your result also depends on the tint, shield, room lighting, eye position, and the host device’s output settings.

Spatial anchoring: keeping a screen where you expect it
RayNeo GT’s built-in 3DoF modes
The GT includes a native three-degrees-of-freedom (3DoF) system. Its Steady mode keeps the virtual image stabilized as your head moves. Pinned mode places the screen at a location in your view so you can look away and return to it. Follow mode keeps the screen associated with your head direction rather than fixing it permanently in the room.
These modes matter for long work sessions. A stabilized or pinned browser window can feel closer to a monitor than a simple mirrored image that moves whenever you turn your head. The specification lists 1200 nits for non-pinned modes and 336 nits in Pinned mode, so select the mode that fits both your spatial and brightness needs.

On the Air 2 Pro, Body Anchor and Smooth Follow require the XREAL Beam Pro accessory. Without Beam Pro, the glasses still function as an external display, but you should not assume that the full spatial interface is included in the frame itself. Add Beam Pro to your budget and carry kit if a fixed or smoothly following screen is essential.
This distinction is central to the comparison: the GT offers its cited 3DoF modes immediately, while the Air 2 Pro’s comparable modes are an accessory-dependent feature. If your main use is a single mirrored screen for a laptop or console, that difference may not matter. If you want a virtual monitor that stays put while you move, it can decide the purchase.
Ambient-light control
Air 2 Pro: the more flexible choice
- Three electronic tint levels: 0%, 35%, and 100%.
- A bundled light shield for blocking the outside view.
- Adjustable temple positions to help align the lenses with your eyes.
Use the clear setting when you need awareness of your surroundings, the middle setting to reduce glare while retaining some environmental visibility, and the darkest setting or shield when watching a film or concentrating on a document. The exact comfort benefit depends on your room and how well the frame fits.

GT: bright display, no electronic dimming
The GT does not have electrochromic dimming and the reviewed package did not include a lens cover. RayNeo sells a separate $19 lens shade. In a bright café, airplane cabin, or room with strong backlighting, plan on using that shade or changing your seating position. The GT’s higher non-pinned brightness can help readability, but it cannot selectively darken the outside world.
Weight, fit, and prescription lenses
Weight and wearing comfort
Tom’s Guide recorded the GT at 2.4 ounces (68 g) in its 2026 review. XREAL’s product page lists the Air 2 Pro at 75 g. The seven-gram difference is modest, but it is concentrated on your nose and temples, where small changes can affect comfort during several hours of reading or coding.
The GT review describes the glasses as comfortable. XREAL documents adjustable temple positions, which can improve fit across different head shapes and help keep the optical centers aligned. A lighter frame is not automatically better if its nose bridge or temple geometry does not suit you, so buy from a seller with a practical return policy when possible.
Prescription support
The Air 2 Pro includes a detachable prescription-lens frame. XREAL’s support documentation describes obtaining inserts through Lensology, Rochester Optical, or a locally made insert. That gives people who wear glasses a documented path without placing a prescription lens directly into the display optics.
The supplied GT information does not document an equivalent prescription-insert system. If you need corrective lenses, confirm the current RayNeo accessory and fitting options before ordering rather than assuming a generic insert will work. Your prescription, pupillary distance, and frame geometry all affect whether text appears sharp.

Connecting the glasses to phones, consoles, and computers
RayNeo GT compatibility
RayNeo lists compatibility with USB-C devices, HDMI devices, PS4 and PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, laptops, and desktop PCs. A USB-C host must support video output; a charging-only USB-C port will not create an image. HDMI sources need the appropriate powered or signal-converting adapter.
Lightning iPhones and older iPads require Apple’s Digital AV Adapter. That is an additional connection step, and the phone or tablet may need to remain powered while driving the glasses. Check the exact model and port before purchasing an adapter.
XREAL Air 2 Pro compatibility
XREAL describes the Air 2 Pro as an external display for phones, consoles, and PCs. Compatibility depends on whether the host device can output video through its available port or adapter. A USB-C port that supports charging and data but not DisplayPort video will not be sufficient.
For a console, connect through the console’s supported video path and use any required HDMI-to-USB-C display adapter. For a laptop or desktop, select the glasses as the external monitor after connecting; the operating system should then offer mirror or extended-display options. The glasses themselves do not replace the host device’s graphics hardware or battery.
Connection checklist
- Identify the host’s video-output standard: USB-C DisplayPort, HDMI, or a proprietary mobile adapter.
- Confirm that the port supports video, not only charging.
- Use a compatible cable or powered adapter for the host and the glasses.
- Set the host to mirror or extend its display, then choose a resolution and refresh rate the device supports.
- If the image is absent, test the glasses with another known video-output device before blaming the frame.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Count the feature gap, not just the frame price. A GT buyer who needs outdoor shading may add the $19 shade. A GT buyer seeking Dolby Vision may add the $199 Pocket TV Pro. An Air 2 Pro buyer who wants Body Anchor or Smooth Follow must add Beam Pro, whose price is not established in the cited material. Prescription inserts, signal adapters, and console cables can add further cost to either setup.
Which model is better for work?
Choose RayNeo GT for a brighter, anchored monitor replacement
The GT is the stronger work pick when you spend hours reading text and want the virtual display to remain steady without carrying a second computing accessory. Its reviewed 68 g weight, sharp text, and native 3DoF modes suit coding, email, documents, and browser work. Use Steady or Follow when you want a stable image without the lower listed brightness associated with Pinned mode.
Choose Air 2 Pro for variable offices and prescription wearers
The Air 2 Pro makes more sense when your environment changes from a bright office to a dark room or when you need prescription inserts. Its dimming levels and light shield let you control how much of the real world competes with the display. Add Beam Pro only if Body Anchor or Smooth Follow is a requirement; for ordinary mirrored laptop work, the glasses can remain a simpler external monitor.
Neither product should be described as a complete laptop replacement. You still need a host computer or mobile device, a compatible video connection, and enough power for that host. The cited sources do not provide battery-runtime testing for either model, so plan around the host device and cable arrangement rather than an assumed all-day wireless runtime.
Which model is better for gaming and video?
RayNeo GT
The GT supports PS4, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, laptops, and desktops according to RayNeo’s compatibility list. Its 120 Hz 2D mode can benefit supported games and menus. The separate Pocket TV Pro is required to access Dolby Vision, according to the cited review, so include that accessory if Dolby Vision playback is a deciding feature.
XREAL Air 2 Pro
The Air 2 Pro works as an external display for consoles and PCs when the host provides compatible video output. Its light shield and full dimming setting are useful for films in rooms where reflections are distracting. The glasses’ documented 75 g weight and adjustable temples can help with fit, while the prescription frame avoids forcing a viewer to wear a second pair of glasses underneath.
Common pitfalls and fixes
The screen stays black
- Verify that the source port supports video output.
- For USB-C, confirm DisplayPort Alt Mode or the host’s equivalent video capability.
- For HDMI, use an adapter designed to output to USB-C display glasses and provide power when required.
- On Lightning iPhones or older iPads, use Apple’s Digital AV Adapter as RayNeo specifies.
- Try another cable and a second host to isolate a cable, adapter, or device problem.
Text looks dim or washed out
- On the GT, switch between non-pinned and Pinned modes; RayNeo lists different brightness values for them.
- On the Air 2 Pro, choose the 35% or 100% tint and attach the light shield in bright rooms.
- Reposition the temples and nose bridge so your eyes align with the optical centers.
- Reduce glare from windows or overhead lights before judging panel quality.
The screen moves when you turn your head
- Enable Steady, Pinned, or Follow on the GT.
- On Air 2 Pro, add Beam Pro for Body Anchor or Smooth Follow.
- If you only need a mirrored display, accept head-relative behavior and avoid paying for spatial hardware you will not use.
Prescription lenses cause blur
- Use a properly made insert rather than placing ordinary glasses between your eyes and the display.
- For Air 2 Pro, follow XREAL’s documented frame and insert routes.
- For GT, verify current prescription compatibility, measurements, and return terms before ordering.
Decision checklist
- Pick RayNeo GT if native 3DoF positioning, higher listed non-pinned brightness, and a 68 g reviewed weight matter most.
- Pick XREAL Air 2 Pro if you need three-level electrochromic dimming, a bundled light shield, adjustable temples, or a documented prescription frame.
- Choose based on your host device’s video-output capability, not only the glasses’ connector shape.
- Add the cost of shades, Beam Pro, Pocket TV Pro, prescription inserts, and signal adapters before comparing totals.
- Do not infer battery life or wireless operation from these products’ display functions; the cited information does not include runtime testing.
Final verdict
For everyday screens, the RayNeo GT is the better all-round choice when you want a bright, lightweight virtual monitor that can stay steady or pinned without an extra spatial-computing accessory. The XREAL Air 2 Pro is the better fit for changing light, prescription wearers, and people who value a straightforward external display with built-in dimming and a light shield. Both deliver the same 46° field of view and 1920×1080-per-eye class resolution; your decision should come down to anchoring, light control, fit, compatibility, and the complete accessory cost.
