RayNeo GT Max Review: Display, Comfort, Battery Life and Buying Advice

The RayNeo GT Max is a wired AR display, not a standalone headset: it puts a virtual screen in front of your eyes, while a connected phone, tablet or computer supplies power and video. RayNeo’s specifications promise a 1080p Micro-OLED image, a 59° field of view and three virtual-screen sizes. The main buying checks are whether your source device supports video over USB-C, whether the fit matches your IPD, and whether its display trade-offs suit your use.

What the RayNeo GT Max is—and what its specifications mean

The GT Max is designed to act as a private, wearable display for a compatible source device. It does not replace that device: your phone, tablet or computer runs the content and sends video to the glasses over a wired connection. RayNeo’s US and EU materials list the following specifications; these are manufacturer claims, not independent lab measurements.

Specification RayNeo’s stated figure How to interpret it
Display 0.6-inch SeeYa Micro-OLED The physical display panel in the glasses.
Resolution 1920 × 1080 Full HD; the larger virtual-screen figures below describe apparent presentation, not panel resolution.
Field of view 59° A manufacturer-stated view angle, not a measurement of physical screen size.
Virtual-screen presets 227, 267 and 307 inches; 267 inches is the stated default These are apparent screen-size presentations, not literal panels of those dimensions.
Refresh rate 120 Hz in 2D; 60 Hz in 3D The stated rate depends on viewing mode.
Brightness 336 nits in Pinned mode; up to 1,200 nits in non-Pinned modes The maximum is not specified for every mode.
Other image specifications 38 pixels per degree; 200,000:1 contrast; 98% DCI-P3; 145% sRGB; ΔE<2 These are published manufacturer specifications, not independently verified measurements.

How good is the display in practice?

The stated 1080p resolution and Micro-OLED panel make the GT Max a personal screen for films, games and other video, but published specifications do not settle how sharp small text will look to you. Fit, alignment and individual vision matter, and the available user impressions are mixed rather than a controlled assessment.

One reviewer who received a beta unit reported clear movie images, smooth color transitions and comfortable viewing, citing firmware v20260818. A separate owner reported text-clarity and black-crush issues early on, and said black crush improved after an August firmware update. Follow, Steady and Pinned modes

RayNeo lists three spatial viewing modes. Follow keeps the screen centered with head movement; Pinned keeps it fixed in a position in the viewed space. Steady is also listed, but the cited product material does not define its behavior in enough detail to describe it more precisely. Brightness differs by mode: RayNeo specifies 336 nits for Pinned and up to 1,200 nits for non-Pinned modes.

RayNeo says Dolby Vision pairing is available with its separately sold Pocket TV Pro. That accessory is not required to use the glasses as a display with a compatible source device, and Dolby Vision should not be assumed for every source or content. RayNeo support guidance.

Comfort and fit: check your IPD before ordering

RayNeo lists the glasses at 78 g and offers three sizes based on interpupillary distance (IPD), the distance between your pupils. Its guidance assigns S to below 64 mm, M to 64–67 mm and L to above 67 mm. Measure your IPD and choose the matching size rather than assuming a universal fit.

Comfort reports are encouraging but limited. Tom’s Guide said the glasses did not feel front-heavy during an IFA 2026 hands-on; that was not an extended wear test. A beta-unit owner said the stock pads stayed comfortable through a two-hour film, which is one person’s experience with a beta unit. Neither impression guarantees comfort for a different face shape or a longer session. Tom’s Guide IFA 2026 hands-on; Beta-unit owner report.

Battery life: the source device does the powering

The glasses have no published standalone runtime in the cited specifications. RayNeo says the connected device powers the glasses and processes video, and warns that some warmth and increased battery consumption are normal. In practical terms, viewing time depends on the phone, tablet or computer you connect and the workload it is handling; no verified device-specific runtime figure is established here. For a long film or work session, consider whether you can charge the source device or keep power nearby.

RayNeo describes direct USB-C connections for supported devices with DisplayPort Alt Mode. A USB-C port alone does not guarantee video output, so check support for your exact phone, tablet or computer model before buying. RayNeo also notes that some older Lightning devices may need a separate adapter. RayNeo support guidance.

What to check before buying

  1. Confirm video compatibility. Look up whether your exact source model supports video output over USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode, or whether it needs an adapter. Do not infer compatibility from the connector shape alone.
  2. Measure IPD and select the right size. Use RayNeo’s S, M and L ranges above; a mismatched fit can affect whether the image sits properly in your view.
  3. Match the screen behavior to your use. Consider whether you prefer a screen that follows head movement or one pinned in place, and remember that RayNeo’s brightness figure differs by mode.
  4. Plan around the source device’s battery. The glasses draw power through the connection, so a nearby charger may be useful for extended viewing.
  5. Treat add-ons as optional and verify their terms. Pocket TV Pro is relevant if you want RayNeo’s stated Dolby Vision pairing experience. Prescription inserts are a separate route to investigate with Lensology, including regional availability and fit.

For a comparison with other display glasses, the most decision-useful criteria are field of view, apparent screen presentation, text clarity, mode-specific brightness, weight and IPD fit, spatial behavior, source-device compatibility, audio leakage and the effect on source-device battery. The available evidence does not establish a controlled comparison or a category winner.
