To tighten privacy on Ray-Ban Meta glasses, manage four separate controls: watch the front capture and inward notification LEDs, turn off Voice Control and “Respond without ‘Hey Meta’” when you do not need them, delete entries in the Voice activity log, and review the app’s capture, voice, notification and data-sharing preferences. Recording, voice processing and sharing are separate decisions; switching off one does not automatically change the others.
What each privacy control actually changes
Ray-Ban Meta glasses do not have one master “privacy” switch. The controls are distributed between the glasses, the Meta AI app (called Meta View in some markets or older releases), and the destinations where media is stored or posted. Use the matrix below to decide what to change.

The app may present a different menu name after an update. If you cannot find a path exactly as written, look for the equivalent entry under your connected glasses, Meta AI, Hey Meta, Voice, Privacy or Data sharing.

Front-facing capture LED
Ray-Ban describes a front-facing capture LED intended to let nearby people know when you are taking a photo or recording video. A photo produces a white blink. During video recording, the capture indication stays active for the recording period, as described in the regional FAQ. This is a transparency signal, not a permission system: it tells people that capture is occurring but does not obtain consent for you.

Inward-facing notification LED
The second light faces the wearer. It supplies notifications and can indicate processing, including audio processing when the glasses handle a voice request. Because the two lights face different directions, seeing an inward light does not replace checking the outward capture indicator when you start a photo or video.
Can the capture LED be disabled?
The official material presents the capture LED as a privacy feature but does not provide a supported procedure for disabling it while retaining recording. Do not rely on an undocumented sequence, a third-party modification or a covered indicator. If you need recording to stop, stop the capture action using the control shown for your model and verify that the outward indication has ended. If the state does not clear, stop using the glasses and consult the current in-app help for your region.
Turn off voice control
Voice Control is the setting to change when you do not want the glasses to respond to voice commands. It is separate from an already captured photo or video and separate from deletion of past voice interactions.

- Open Settings and choose Voice. On newer builds, start from the connected glasses or device settings and then open Meta AI or Hey Meta preferences.
- Switch Voice Control off.
- Return to the glasses settings and confirm that the switch remains off after the app synchronizes with the glasses.
Menu labels can differ by country, app version and staged rollout. The reliable clues are the words Voice Control, Hey Meta and the name of your connected glasses. Turning off Voice Control addresses future voice-command availability; it does not automatically erase entries already present in the voice activity log.

Disable “Respond without ‘Hey Meta’” deliberately
“Respond without ‘Hey Meta’” is a separate convenience option. When enabled, the microphones remain active briefly after a request so you can continue speaking without repeating the wake phrase. The notification LED indicates when the glasses process audio.
- In Meta AI (or Meta View), open the settings for your connected glasses.
- Open Meta AI or Hey Meta preferences. Some releases place the option directly under device settings.
- Turn Respond without “Hey Meta” off if you want every interaction to require the wake phrase or want to avoid the post-request listening window.
- Check the setting again after an app or glasses software update; location and wording can move between releases.
This option does not control the front capture LED and does not delete voice history. Treat it as a microphone-behavior setting, not a recording-history control.
Review and delete voice recordings
Current app path
- Open the Meta AI app and select Glasses.
- Open Device settings and select the connected glasses.
- Choose Glasses privacy.
- Open Voice activity log.
- Review the listed interactions and use the available delete control for individual entries or the offered batch option.
The product privacy area may also use the labels Voice storage and Activity log. Those labels refer to the same general task: inspecting and removing stored voice interactions through the app.

Deleting an item from the in-app voice activity log removes it from the history you can manage there. The official material does not state one universal retention period for every category of voice, visual and metadata information. Do not assume that a single deletion action, a single number of days or a local-gallery deletion covers every copy or processing record. For the applicable details, read the privacy notice shown in your app and Meta’s current policy for your region.

Control information shared with Meta
Meta states that the app lets you choose preferences for captures, voice and notifications and manage the information you share with Meta. These are optional data-sharing decisions, not the same thing as the glasses’ physical capture indicator.
- Open the app’s Privacy, Data sharing or similarly named area. The exact label can change with a release.
- Read each toggle’s current description before changing it. A setting may refer specifically to captures, voice interactions, notifications or product-improvement data.
- Disable any optional category you do not want to share, then save or confirm the change if the app asks.
- Revisit the page after major app updates because descriptions, defaults and menu locations can change.
Make decisions by data type rather than by assuming that “privacy on” is one setting. You can, for example, want voice control off while still using the camera, or keep local captures while declining an optional sharing category.
Separate local capture, cloud processing and story sharing
Local capture
A photo or video taken by the glasses is the initial capture event. The outward LED is the visible indication for people nearby. Capture control and voice control are related in use but are not the same setting.
Cloud or service processing
Some AI or account features may process information through the app or Meta services. The app’s privacy and data-sharing descriptions are the place to determine which optional categories apply to your account and region. The available official material does not establish one retention schedule that covers every type of processing.

Facebook Stories and the Meta AI app
Sharing to a social destination is a separate decision from taking the photo or video. Ray-Ban says media shared to Facebook Stories remains available to view in the Meta AI app. Therefore, deleting a local copy or changing a capture preference should not be treated as proof that a previously shared story is no longer visible in the app. Check the story and sharing controls themselves when you want to remove or limit a post.

Use this order when setting up new glasses or reviewing an existing pair.
- Identify the app. Open Meta AI; if your region still uses Meta View, use that app and look for equivalent labels.
- Learn the lights. Confirm which light faces outward and which faces inward. Before recording around other people, wait for the expected capture indication.
- Choose voice availability. Turn Voice Control off if you do not need voice commands.
- Choose the post-request microphone behavior. Turn off Respond without “Hey Meta” if you do not want the brief follow-up listening window.
- Inspect voice history. Open the Voice activity log and delete interactions you no longer want in the manageable history.
- Audit sharing. Read the capture, voice and notification data-sharing controls and disable optional categories that do not fit your preferences.
- Audit destinations. Check whether any media has been shared to Facebook Stories or another destination and manage those posts separately.
- Repeat after updates. Recheck the menus after app, firmware or regional account changes because labels and paths can move.

Troubleshooting privacy settings
The menu says Meta View, not Meta AI
Meta View is the older or regional app name. Open its glasses, device, voice and privacy sections and look for the same functional labels. Do not install an unofficial utility to expose a missing switch.
Voice Control is not where the instructions say
Check both Settings > Voice and the selected glasses’ Device settings. Newer builds may nest Voice Control under Meta AI or Hey Meta preferences. Region, account type and staged releases can change the navigation.

You deleted voice entries but still see other information
The voice activity log covers voice interactions. Captures, notifications, account data and shared stories have separate controls and destinations. Review each relevant section rather than expecting one log deletion to remove every category.
The LEDs seem to show different things
Check the direction of each light. The front-facing capture LED communicates photo or video capture to people nearby; the inward-facing notification LED communicates feedback to the wearer, including processing states. Video and photo indications are not identical: a photo uses a white blink, while video keeps the capture indication active during recording.
You need a retention answer
There is no single universal retention number established for all voice, visual and metadata categories in the official material described here. Use the privacy notice and current Meta policy presented for your region instead of applying a number from a different country, app release or data category.
What to tell people around you
The outward capture light is designed to make photo and video capture apparent, but it is still your responsibility to use the glasses considerately. Explain that the front light should indicate an active capture, pause when someone objects, and follow workplace, venue and local privacy rules. The light is an indicator, not a substitute for consent or a guarantee that every person will notice it.
For sensitive conversations, the safest operational choice is not to initiate a capture and to disable voice features you do not need. When you do record, verify the capture indication before and during the event, then review where the resulting media is stored or shared.
Limits you should keep in mind
- The official first-party material documents the capture and notification LEDs but does not give a supported way to disable the capture LED while keeping recording available.
- App names and menu paths can differ between Meta AI and Meta View, regions and software releases.
- No one retention period covers every voice, visual and metadata category.
- Voice settings, voice-history deletion, optional data sharing and story posting are separate controls.
- Media shared to Facebook Stories remains viewable in the Meta AI app, so sharing must be reviewed independently of capture.
A useful privacy review therefore has two parts: reduce collection you do not need, and audit the information and destinations that remain. Checking only one switch leaves the other parts unchanged.
