3K Ultra HD recording
Ray-Ban lists 3K Ultra HD video for the current product line. Meta’s Gen 2 announcement and product listing identify 3K capture as a major hardware improvement over the earlier generation. Stabilization, available recording modes and final file behavior can vary by model and software version.
Longer advertised battery life
Meta advertises up to eight hours of battery life for Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2. “Up to” is a laboratory-style product claim rather than a guarantee for every use pattern: recording, calls, music, AI requests and temperature can change runtime. How Meta AI works through the frames
Voice questions about what you see
You can speak to Meta AI and ask questions about a scene viewed through the camera. The glasses can also provide voice responses, so you hear the result through the open-ear speakers while remaining aware of surrounding sound.
Text and speech translation
Ray-Ban describes translation for text and spoken conversation, including back-and-forth exchanges in six languages on its US feature information. The company also says the live-translation feature can work without Wi-Fi. Language support, rollout status and behavior can differ by country, account, language and software release, so the feature should be confirmed for your location before buying.

Why availability is not universal
Live AI, translation and other advanced functions depend on regional availability and software rollout. A feature shown in a US product description may not be enabled in another market, and supported languages can change. Treat the glasses’ advertised capabilities as a feature set with regional conditions, not as a promise that every function works everywhere on day one.
What the phone and Meta AI app are still required for
Ray-Ban says a smartphone and the Meta AI app are needed to set up the glasses, manage settings, import and share media, and receive updates. The glasses therefore work as a companion device rather than a standalone computer.

- Pair the glasses through the app and complete the setup prompts.
- Use the app to adjust settings and assign supported button actions.
- Import captured photos and videos to the phone before editing or sharing them.
- Keep the app and glasses firmware current so newly released features and fixes can be delivered.
Without the phone, the glasses cannot provide the complete setup, management and media workflow Ray-Ban documents. Wireless connectivity, account requirements and feature support should be checked for your phone and region.
Open-ear calls, music and navigation
The speakers sit outside the ear canal, allowing music, podcasts, turn-by-turn directions and calls while your ears remain open to ambient sound. The microphones support calls and immersive recordings. Open-ear audio improves situational awareness compared with sealed earbuds, but it does not make the glasses inaudible to people nearby; volume, surroundings and the recording itself still matter.

The capture LED is a real privacy control
Each pair includes a white capture LED that blinks when content is being captured for your gallery. Meta states that covering or disabling this LED automatically disables the camera. That makes the light part of the camera’s operating safeguard, not merely a decorative indicator.
- Look for the blinking white LED before assuming the camera is recording.
- Do not cover the LED if you need the camera to operate.
- Respect venue rules and people’s expectations; a visible indicator does not replace consent or local privacy law.
- Remember that audio functions such as calls and playback are separate from camera capture.

Are they worth it for AI, calls and recording?
They make the strongest case for people who want quick first-person capture, voice-controlled assistance and open-ear calls without constantly reaching for a phone. Gen 2 is the clearest choice when 3K video and the longer advertised battery claim matter.
They are a weaker fit if you expect a self-contained computer, a built-in visual display, unlimited recording or guaranteed translation in every language and country. The phone remains part of the product, and advanced AI behavior is subject to software and regional availability.
