Raxial Flux is Koenigsegg’s name for an electric-motor design that combines characteristics of axial-flux and radial-flux topologies. The term describes the company’s approach—not a universally standardized motor category—and Koenigsegg uses it for its Quark and Dark Matter motors.
What does Raxial Flux mean?
In an electric motor, axial-flux and radial-flux describe the principal direction of magnetic flux across the air gap in relation to the motor shaft. Koenigsegg says axial-flux designs tend to emphasize torque density, while radial-flux designs tend to emphasize power density. It describes Raxial Flux as a mix of the two approaches rather than a design that relies heavily on either one. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not a universal rule that applies to every motor.

Koenigsegg calls the Quark its first in-house e-motor with this topology and also identifies Dark Matter as Raxial Flux. Its official pages do not provide a standards-body definition, and the term should be understood as Koenigsegg’s coined label rather than a broadly established motor classification. How are axial-flux and radial-flux motors different?
The distinction concerns the direction of magnetic flux across the motor’s air gap relative to the shaft. Koenigsegg characterizes axial-flux solutions as more torque-dense and less power-dense, and radial-flux solutions as more power-dense and less torque-rich. Its stated rationale for Raxial Flux is to combine characteristics associated with both.

- The EUDAX DIY Simple Electric Motor Model Assemble Kit, which fully demonstrates how the motor works, is designed for electronics enthusiasts, easy to assemble and disassemble, and is ideal for learning science projects and teaching.
- The working voltage of the motor model is 1.5v-6v.It is not recommended to use 12v voltage for testing. When the power is turned on, the motor model can be rotated like a real motor.
- When you are assembled, turn on the power(Do not include battery, you need to prepare 4 AA batteries), but the motor model does not work. You can check whether the copper brush is closely touched with the rotor , rotate the rotor to drive the motor model to work.
- Come with the English manual, detailed assembly process and precautions, if you encounter any problems during assembly and use, please contact us and we will solve it for you.
That explanation is useful as a high-level description, but the public material does not give enough internal design detail to reconstruct the Quark or Dark Matter’s rotor, stator, winding, or magnet arrangements. Nor does the company’s description establish that a mixed topology will outperform either conventional type in every application.
Which motors are called Raxial Flux?
| Motor | Published power | Published torque | Mass | Other published details | Source context |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quark | Up to 250 kW | Up to 600 Nm | 28.5 kg | Koenigsegg describes 300M steel construction, direct cooling, and a hollow carbon-fiber rotor. | Koenigsegg’s current product page; first production version. Source |
| Dark Matter | 800 hp | 1,250 Nm | 39 kg | Six-phase; maximum speed of 8,500 rpm. | Koenigsegg’s product page, accessed in 2026. Source |
These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent comparative test results. Koenigsegg identifies Dark Matter as part of the Gemera drivetrain; the Gemera technical specifications also describe it as a six-phase Raxial Flux e-motor.

- Principle: The simple motor model assembly kit fully demonstrates the working principle of the motor.
- Easy to use: Easy to assemble and disassemble, very suitable for school science projects or teaching.
- Working voltage: The working voltage of the motor model is 3v-6v. The demonstration motor equipped with a power cord will rotate like a real motor after it is connected to the 3-6V power supply.
- Widely used: Suitable for electronics enthusiasts and DIY beginners to learn, simple design is easy to use.
- Test: After assembling the kit, there is no problem with the test power supply, but it still does not work, then please check the armature coil and brushes. If they are in poor contact, please adjust them to be in close contact (turn the rotor bracket to make the gap between the two brushes) Located in the middle).
Why do Quark weight figures differ?
Koenigsegg’s current Quark page lists 28.5 kg for the first production version. An electrive report dated February 1, 2022, updated January 5, 2023, gave the Quark weight as 30 kg. These are figures from different publication contexts; they should not be combined into a single specification or treated as though they describe an identical configuration.

What applications does Koenigsegg suggest?
Koenigsegg says the Quark may suit marine, aircraft, and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) applications. The company argues that its speed and torque characteristics could allow direct drive without a step-down transmission in some uses. These are proposed use cases and a manufacturer-stated rationale, not evidence that the motor has been commercially deployed in each setting. Koenigsegg’s Quark page

What can the public specifications tell you?
The available product pages establish how Koenigsegg uses the Raxial Flux name and provide headline specifications for its named motors. They do not disclose the detailed electromagnetic geometry needed to reproduce either design, and the published figures alone do not establish how the motors compare with other topologies under controlled, independent testing.
