If you want mouse movement to produce the same in-game distance whether you move slowly or quickly, start with raw input and no added acceleration where those controls are available. Acceleration deliberately changes the distance according to movement speed, which can suit players who prefer speed-dependent movement. Neither choice is proven to improve aim for every Counter-Strike 2 player, and the available documentation does not establish exactly how every current CS2 build handles Windows pointer settings.
Raw input and mouse acceleration are different settings
The terms are often used together, but they describe different parts of the input chain.

What “raw input” means
Raw input is a way for a game to receive mouse movement data. Conceptually, the game receives movement information from the device rather than relying on a pointer position that has already been transformed by ordinary desktop handling. The important question for a player is which processing stages the game actually uses: Windows pointer processing, a game-level sensitivity calculation, a driver utility, or some combination.

It describes the input path, not the quality of your settings.

What mouse acceleration means
Mouse acceleration makes movement distance depend on movement speed. With a non-accelerated relationship, a given physical distance moved across the mouse pad produces the same relative input distance regardless of whether you move slowly or quickly. With acceleration, a faster swipe can produce more in-game movement than the same physical distance moved slowly.
Acceleration can be implemented by an operating system, a game, a mouse driver, or another utility. The exact curve and whether it is applied at all are implementation details; the general idea is speed-dependent movement.
Why the distinction matters in CS2
A player can have a raw-input path with no acceleration, a raw-input path with an acceleration curve applied elsewhere, or a non-raw path affected by desktop processing. Therefore, changing a Windows checkbox is not automatically the same thing as enabling or disabling a CS2 feature.

What is actually documented about CS2
Public information supports a cautious conclusion rather than a definitive technical map of the current game. A community-maintained CS2 settings reference says that CS2 raw input bypasses Windows settings. That is useful community guidance, but it has not been independently verified here against an official specification for the current build. Treat it as an observation or recommendation from the community, not as a guaranteed behavior for every version, launch option, driver, or peripheral utility.
A ValveSoftware public issue opened on March 27, 2024 requested options to enable or disable raw input, mouse acceleration, and Windows Enhanced Pointer Precision. A Valve maintainer replied, “feature requests are not tracked in this issue tracker,” and the issue was closed as not planned. That response describes how the tracker handles feature requests. It does not confirm that the requested controls were absent from every CS2 build, does not document the game’s current input path, and is not a promise that no setting will ever be added.

Consequently, you should not describe the 2024 issue as proof that CS2 has no raw-input option or no acceleration behavior. It is evidence about the status of that particular request in that tracker, not a technical answer to the Windows-versus-game processing question.
Which setup should you try first?
Choose a stable movement relationship when consistency is your priority
If your goal is for the same physical mouse distance to represent the same relative movement at different speeds, use a raw-input option without an additional acceleration curve if your game or device software clearly provides those controls. This is the simplest starting point for building repeatable muscle memory: a slow adjustment and a fast adjustment are not intentionally given different distances solely because of speed.

Your sensitivity, DPI, grip, pad size, posture, and practice still determine whether the setup feels controllable.
Choose speed-dependent movement only when you deliberately want it
Acceleration can be useful to a player who wants a slow movement for fine control and a fast movement for covering more screen distance. The trade-off is that identical physical distances can produce different in-game distances when performed at different speeds. If that variation is intentional and predictable to you, an acceleration curve may be a valid preference.
Do not adopt acceleration because it is rumored to be universally superior, and do not remove it because a community checklist says everyone must. No authoritative statement in the available material establishes that either choice improves aim for every player.

Check Windows settings without assuming they control CS2
Windows exposes two controls that players commonly associate with acceleration: mouse pointer speed and Enhance pointer precision. Microsoft documents the following version-specific paths.

- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Mouse.
- Review the Mouse pointer speed slider.
- Review the Enhance pointer precision control if it is shown on that page or through the linked additional mouse settings.
Microsoft describes Enhance pointer precision as making the pointer more accurate when the mouse is moving slowly. That wording concerns Windows pointer behavior. It does not establish whether a current CS2 build reads the setting or bypasses it.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Mouse.
- Choose Additional mouse options.
- Open the Pointer Options tab.
- Review the pointer-speed slider and the Enhance pointer precision checkbox.
The labels and route differ between Windows 10 and Windows 11, so use the path for the version installed on your PC rather than following a screenshot from another release.
A controlled way to test your own configuration
Because the current CS2 input path is not fully documented in the material available here, treat Windows changes as a personal configuration test, not as an officially confirmed CS2 fix.
- Record your baseline. Write down your mouse DPI, in-game sensitivity, Windows pointer-speed position, Enhance pointer precision state, and any acceleration setting in your mouse or driver utility. If you use a custom profile, note which profile is active.
- Change one variable. For example, change only Enhance pointer precision. Do not simultaneously alter DPI, sensitivity, polling rate, launch options, and a driver profile; otherwise you cannot tell which change affected the feel.
- Restart the relevant software. Close and relaunch CS2 after a meaningful configuration change. If you changed a driver profile, make sure the profile is applied to the game’s executable or active device.
- Use repeatable movements. Test a slow horizontal movement, a fast horizontal movement, a short correction, and a longer turn. Compare the physical distance and speed you use, not just whether one round felt good.
- Check both desktop and game behavior. If the Windows pointer changes but CS2 feels unchanged, that is evidence about your configuration, not proof of how every CS2 build works. If both change, confirm that no driver utility or game setting changed at the same time.
- Keep the setting that you can reproduce. After testing, restore the baseline or document the new values. Consistency is more useful than repeatedly changing settings before you have adapted to one.
How to decide between the two approaches
| Your priority | Reasonable starting point | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Same physical distance should stay the same at different speeds | Raw input with no intentionally added acceleration | Whether the game, driver, or utility applies a curve elsewhere |
| Slow movements should be fine while fast swipes cover more distance | A deliberately chosen acceleration curve | That the curve is predictable and enabled in only one place |
| You are troubleshooting a sudden change after a Windows update | Compare Windows pointer settings with your recorded baseline | Whether CS2 actually changes, rather than assuming it follows Windows |
| You are copying a community configuration | Use it as a testable starting point | The CS2 version, driver profile, and whether the claim is officially documented |
The most important distinction is between a preference and a technical fact. “I aim better with this curve” is a valid personal result. “CS2 officially ignores this Windows setting in every current build” requires documentation that is not established here.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Assuming the Windows checkbox is a CS2 switch
Enhance pointer precision is presented by Windows as a pointer control. Changing it may alter desktop behavior, but the available Microsoft guidance does not say that CS2 consumes or bypasses it. Test the game after changing it instead of presenting the change as a guaranteed CS2 fix.
Confusing raw input with acceleration
Raw input concerns delivery of movement data; acceleration concerns the relationship between movement speed and distance. A raw-input path can still be followed by a game- or driver-level curve, and disabling a Windows pointer behavior does not by itself prove that all acceleration has disappeared.
Changing several sensitivity variables at once
Changing DPI, in-game sensitivity, Windows settings, and a driver profile together destroys your baseline. Return to one known configuration, change one item, and test repeatable movements.
Treating a closed Valve issue as a feature announcement
The March 27, 2024 reply concerned issue-tracker policy. It did not promise a setting, certify its absence from every build, or answer how the input path works. Use the issue’s wording narrowly.
Expecting a guaranteed aim improvement
No suitable statistic or controlled comparison establishes that one choice improves aim for all Counter-Strike players. Your result depends on adaptation, sensitivity, available mouse space, and the movement relationship you can control consistently.

Leaving acceleration enabled in more than one layer
If you intentionally use acceleration, identify where it is applied. A game curve plus a driver curve can produce an interaction you did not intend. If you want a non-accelerated baseline, remove or disable deliberately added curves one layer at a time and record the result.
What to do when the mouse suddenly feels different
After a Windows change
Reopen the Windows mouse page for your version and verify the pointer-speed position and Enhance pointer precision state. Then check CS2 and any device utility. Change one setting, relaunch the game, and compare against the recorded baseline.
After a driver or mouse-profile change
Confirm that the intended hardware profile is active and that its DPI and acceleration options did not change. A physical mouse with adjustable DPI is optional for this process; you can inspect Windows settings without buying new hardware.

When desktop and CS2 disagree
That difference may indicate that the game uses a different input path, but it is not by itself proof of a universal CS2 rule. Document the exact Windows version, game build, device profile, and setting states before drawing a conclusion.
Frequently misunderstood terminology
- Pointer speed is not the same as mouse DPI. DPI is a hardware or device-profile measurement; Windows pointer speed is an operating-system control. In-game sensitivity is a third value.
- Acceleration is not automatically smoothing. Acceleration changes distance according to speed. Other processing, such as filtering or smoothing, is a separate behavior and should not be assumed from the word “raw.”
- Raw input is not a performance mode. It does not guarantee higher frame rates, lower input latency, or better network performance.
- A community label is not an official specification. Terms such as “raw input on” may describe a recommended configuration rather than a documented CS2 switch.
A practical baseline for most players
- Choose a comfortable mouse DPI and record it.
- Choose an in-game sensitivity that lets you make both small corrections and the turns you routinely need.
- Start with a stable, non-accelerated movement relationship if that is your goal.
- Inspect Windows 10 or Windows 11 settings using the correct path, but do not assume those controls govern CS2.
- Check for a separate acceleration curve in the game or device utility before changing Windows again.
- Practice and evaluate over multiple sessions; do not judge a setting solely from one unusual match.
If you later want speed-dependent movement, add one acceleration curve intentionally and test it against the same baseline. The useful result is the setting you can understand, reproduce, and control—not the label that appears in a configuration guide.
Bottom line
Raw input and mouse acceleration answer different questions. Raw input concerns how movement reaches the game; acceleration determines whether movement speed changes the distance represented. For a consistent physical-to-in-game relationship, begin with raw input and no intentionally added acceleration where those options are clearly available. Choose acceleration only when you deliberately want speed-dependent movement and can reproduce its behavior. Windows provides pointer controls, but the available official documentation does not establish whether the current CS2 build reads or bypasses them, so test one variable at a time and treat the result as your configuration evidence.
