Ratatan Version 1.0 is now available on Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The rhythm-based roguelike action game combines command-driven battles with side-scrolling movement, supports offline solo play and online co-op for up to four players, and completes its campaign with the final episodes, world and boss encounters.
What launched, and when
The developer’s launch announcement says that Version 1.0 is out on Steam and that the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions launch alongside it. The announcement describes October 15, 2026, as the official launch date. Store pages can show October 14, 2026 because of platform-specific release timing around the worldwide launch; that difference does not indicate separate versions of the game.

The current full release is available digitally on all four platforms. The original Nintendo Switch and GOG editions are still described as in preparation, so owners of the first-generation Switch should not assume that the Switch 2 release runs on their existing hardware.

How Ratatan’s battles work
Ratatan is built around a hybrid premise: rhythm-game inputs issue commands while side-scrolling action determines where those commands matter. You control Ratatans directly, moving them through the battlefield, and use rhythm sequences to order groups of Cobuns. Timing, formation, positioning and knowing when to retreat are as important as selecting an attack.

The scale can become unusually large for the genre. The Steam description says an intense battle can include more than 100 characters fighting in one melee. That makes command timing and battlefield awareness central: a successful sequence is not merely about hitting a beat, but about giving the right order while your units are in a useful position.
The setting
The story follows Ratatans from Rataport as they seek The Everafter and its Goddess. Version 1.0 adds the remaining story material rather than leaving the campaign at an early-access stopping point.

What Version 1.0 adds
The completed release expands the game with the following content:
- Episodes 3 and 4, completing the announced story progression.
- The final world and the final boss.
- New Dark Ratatan boss battles.
- New Mythic weapons and accessories.
- An ending song recorded with an orchestra.
These additions matter if you played an earlier build: Version 1.0 is not simply a platform port or a balance patch. It supplies the final campaign episodes and endgame encounters that were not present in the earlier release period.

Solo, online co-op and cross-play
Offline solo play
The complete game supports offline single-player play. You do not need an internet connection to play the campaign alone.
Four-player online co-op
Online co-op supports up to four players. Local co-op on one console or PC is not supported, so a group sharing one system cannot play together through a split-screen or shared-screen mode. On consoles, each player also needs the relevant platform’s online subscription.

Cross-play coverage
Cross-play currently works between Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation 5 cross-play is planned for the near future according to the official FAQ, but it is not part of the currently confirmed cross-play group. If your party includes a PS5 player, check the latest platform notice before buying on the assumption that every system can join the same lobby.

Price, editions and buying choices
Steam lists the standard edition at $34.99. It also lists a Deluxe Edition and separate downloadable content covering weapons and accessories, Cobuns, and upgrade materials. The Deluxe Edition’s price and a complete platform-by-platform price list were not published, so console prices may differ by storefront and region.

Switch 2 physical edition
The official FAQ confirms that the physical Nintendo Switch 2 release is a game card containing the game data. It is therefore not merely a box with a download code. This is the appropriate edition for buyers who specifically want a physical copy, but it should not be confused with a compatible original-Switch version, which remains in preparation.
Choosing a platform
- Choose Steam if you want PC play and access to the confirmed cross-play group, while accepting that Steam Deck compatibility is playable rather than officially supported.
- Choose Switch 2 if you want handheld-console play or the confirmed physical game card.
- Choose Xbox Series X|S if your friends are on Steam or Switch 2 and you want to join that cross-play pool.
- Choose PS5 for console performance if your group is playing on PlayStation, but verify the current cross-play rollout before purchasing for a mixed-platform party.
What the launch says about the project
Ratatan’s development was backed by a 2023 Kickstarter campaign that recorded 14,598 backers and ¥219,314,335 pledged. The 1.0 release is the point at which that project’s announced campaign reaches its final world, final boss and closing song.

- Decide whether you need offline solo play, online co-op or both. Solo works offline, while online console play requires the relevant subscription.
