Kawhi Leonard was ramping up his work in phases at Toronto Raptors training camp and had not yet taken part in contact drills, according to an October 1 report. He was considered unlikely to play in the Raptors’ upcoming preseason opener against Miami, but coach Darko Rajakovic had not ruled out the possibility. That was a forecast, not a confirmed lineup decision.
What Leonard was doing at camp
CBS Sports’ October 1 update, by RotoWire Staff, attributed the status report to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg: Leonard was easing into camp through a phased ramp-up and had not participated in contact drills. The report describes his participation level but does not establish that he had returned to full-contact practice.
Sportsnet’s September 30 listings describe a second-day camp media availability in which Leonard discussed his first impressions of camp, Rajakovic and his three-point shooting. The listings provide topic descriptions, not a transcript, so they do not establish additional details about his practice workload or his own assessment of his readiness. Was he expected to play against Miami?
As of the October 1 report, Leonard was considered unlikely to play in Toronto’s Saturday preseason opener against Miami. Rajakovic reportedly said the team would consider playing him, leaving the possibility open. The account therefore indicated an expectation, not a scratch from the lineup. Because “Saturday” referred to the game upcoming on October 1, this report alone does not establish whether Leonard ultimately played.

What Toronto’s load-management plan tells us
The same reports say Toronto had developed a load-management plan for the 2026–27 campaign. They do not publish its terms, schedule or specific limits for Leonard, so the existence of a plan should not be taken as confirmation of how often he would play or sit.
