Rainbow Six Tactics will let players break through walls, destroy enemy cover, and create new lines of sight and entry points. Those are the destruction mechanics Ubisoft has confirmed so far. The turn-based game also includes The Breach, a synchronized assault in which active Operators move together while combining their abilities with environmental destruction.
Because the game is a planned release rather than a fully documented live product, Ubisoft has not yet published a complete list of breakable materials, surface health values, destruction ranges, turn costs, or object-by-object rules. The safest way to understand the system is to separate confirmed Tactics features from established Rainbow Six Siege context.

What can be broken in Rainbow Six Tactics?
Ubisoft’s Xbox Wire announcement confirms three practical uses for destruction in Rainbow Six Tactics:
- Breaking through walls to create lines of sight. A wall opening can let an Operator see and attack positions that were previously hidden.
- Breaking through walls to create new entry points. Destruction can provide a route into a space instead of forcing the squad to use an existing doorway or corridor.
- Destroying enemy cover. Removing cover can expose an enemy position that would otherwise remain protected.
These statements establish walls and enemy cover as confirmed tactical targets, but they do not mean every wall, panel, floor, ceiling, door, barricade, hatch, or gadget is destructible. Ubisoft has not released a surface-by-surface inventory for Tactics, so treating the announcement as proof that the entire map can be dismantled would overstate what is known.

The announcement also presents destruction as a deliberate decision rather than simple background damage. An opening can change both what the squad sees and where it can move; removing cover can change how safe an enemy position is. Those are tactical implications of the announced purposes, not published statistics about damage, range, or effectiveness.
How destruction fits the turn-based system
Rainbow Six Tactics is described as a turn-based Rainbow Six experience. In that setting, a breach is valuable because it changes the board for the decisions that follow. A wall opened on one turn can expose a target, create a firing angle, or give another Operator a route that was unavailable before. Destroying cover can make a previously strong defensive position vulnerable.
The announcement does not specify whether a particular breach consumes an action point, requires a specific ability, has a fixed animation time, or produces noise that affects nearby enemies. It also does not publish material strengths, explosive radii, hit-point values, or a rule for whether a wall opening persists for the rest of a mission. Those details should not be inferred from Rainbow Six Siege.

Creative Director Elie Benhamou described the series’ shared design philosophy this way: “Rainbow Six games all share a common tactical core: intel, planning, high-stakes decision-making, and elite Operators with distinct roles,” The confirmed destruction features fit that philosophy by making the environment part of the plan rather than a static backdrop.

How The Breach works
The Breach is the announcement’s clearest description of a coordinated destruction sequence. It temporarily synchronizes the movement of active Operators during an assault and combines their abilities with environmental destruction.
What synchronization means
When The Breach is used, the active Operators are presented as moving together for the assault instead of acting as completely isolated pieces. The announcement does not give a duration, activation requirement, cooldown, turn cost, or maximum number of Operators. It does establish the intended relationship: simultaneous movement and Operator abilities are used alongside environmental destruction.
Why destruction matters during the assault
A synchronized push can make a newly created opening more useful than an isolated breach. One Operator may create or exploit a route while another applies a different ability, allowing the squad to pressure an enemy position from a coordinated angle. That is a strategic reading of the announced combination, not evidence of a specific combo, damage bonus, or guaranteed result.

Destruction’s confirmed tactical purposes

The table describes purposes, not guaranteed outcomes. A sightline does not necessarily provide a safe shot, and an entry point does not guarantee that the route is clear. The value of a breach depends on enemy placement, the Operators selected, and the rest of the turn-based plan.
What has not been confirmed for Tactics
Several familiar Rainbow Six objects and effects remain unconfirmed in Tactics. The announcement does not establish whether the game includes:
- Destructible or traversable floors and ceilings
- Trapdoors or hatches that can be opened
- Doors, windows, barricades, or reinforced walls as destruction targets
- Specific wall materials with different durability
- Explosive breach charges or other destruction gadgets
- Deployable shields, barbed wire, or similar equipment that can be destroyed
- Exact damage values, blast radii, surface health, action costs, or turn limits
- A percentage of each map that can be destroyed
“Walls can be broken” is therefore a precise confirmed claim; “everything in the room is destructible” is not. Until Ubisoft publishes a Tactics-specific guide or gameplay demonstration with those rules, descriptions should stay at the level of walls, enemy cover, sightlines, entry points, and The Breach.
Rainbow Six Siege context: useful vocabulary, not Tactics rules
Rainbow Six Siege provides the franchise’s established destruction vocabulary, but its mechanics should be treated only as context for understanding the announced Tactics feature. Siege’s official guide distinguishes between surfaces that can be shot through and surfaces that can be traversed after breaching. A damaged surface, a firing port, and a walkable opening are not automatically the same thing.

Siege documentation also describes how trapdoors and explosive gadgets can open destructible surfaces. That helps explain why “shoot-through” and “breached” are different tactical states in the wider franchise. It does not confirm that Tactics uses the same states, objects, or gadget requirements.
Material dependence in Siege
An older Ubisoft development article about Siege describes breach charges being placed against a wall or floor and explains that destructibility depends on materials and other factors. The article represents Siege development work, not the current Tactics implementation. Its relevance is limited to a historical franchise pattern: Rainbow Six destruction has previously been designed around material-dependent behavior rather than a universal break-anything rule.
Ram’s BU-GI Auto-Breacher as a Siege-only example
Ubisoft’s description of Ram’s BU-GI Auto-Breacher gives a concrete Siege example. It can break barricades, open impact-sized holes in soft floors, destroy deployable shields, Castle barricades, and barbed wire, and clear soft walls or unreinforced hatches. None of those specific targets or the BU-GI’s behavior has been announced for Tactics.
Siege physics programmer Julien L’Heureux summarized that game’s approach by saying: “In Rainbow Six Siege, procedural destruction plays a central role and is used to change the environment and influence the game’s outcome.” The statement explains the lineage of the feature, not a Tactics specification.

Until more detailed rules are published, players can evaluate a destruction opportunity by asking four questions based directly on the confirmed purposes.
- What information does the opening provide? Identify the enemy position, room, or route that the wall currently hides. A breach that reveals nothing useful may not justify the action.
- Does the opening create a route? Decide whether the new gap changes how an Operator can enter or reposition. A visual angle and a traversable route are different benefits.
- Whose cover is being removed? If the target is enemy cover, consider which enemy becomes exposed and whether another threat can still protect that position.
- Can the timing support The Breach? If the assault uses synchronized Operators, choose a destruction point that lets their movement and abilities work together. The announcement does not promise a specific bonus, so the advantage comes from coordination and changed geometry.
This framework avoids assuming unannounced statistics. It treats a wall opening or cover removal as a choice with an information cost, a movement consequence, and a coordination opportunity.
Operators and missions that give destruction a purpose
The Xbox Wire announcement identifies 15 recruitable Operators drawn from Rainbow Six Siege, including Ash, Sledge, Nokk, and Montagne. Each Operator is described as having unique abilities, specialized gadgets, and skill trees. The announcement does not assign a particular destruction value or wall-breaking role to any named Operator in Tactics, so Siege reputations should not be used as proof of their Tactics abilities.

Destruction can matter differently across those objectives: an entry point may shorten access to a hostage, a sightline may help locate or protect a bomb site, and cover removal may expose a target. These are objective-based applications of the confirmed purposes, not statements that every mission contains the same breakable geometry.
Release status and what to verify later
Xbox Wire published the announcement on August 25, 2026. It describes Rainbow Six Tactics as a planned turn-based experience for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC and invites readers to wishlist it. The announcement does not confirm a physical edition, a retail manual, or an Amazon listing.
For destruction specifically, a later official guide or hands-on demonstration would need to answer the unresolved questions: which materials can be breached, whether floors and ceilings are included, how many actions a breach costs, how The Breach is activated, whether destruction creates permanent openings, and how noise or visibility changes after an object is broken. Until those details appear, the confirmed feature set remains intentionally narrower than Siege’s full destruction system.
Bottom line
Rainbow Six Tactics carries environmental destruction into a turn-based format. The confirmed mechanics are breaking through walls for sightlines and entry points, destroying enemy cover, and combining those changes with synchronized Operator movement during The Breach. Siege examples can explain the franchise’s terminology, but they cannot fill in missing Tactics rules. Plan around the tactical purpose of each opening, and treat every material, gadget, damage value, or destructible object beyond those announcements as unconfirmed.
