How to interpret the minimum and recommended tiers
Processor: the minimum can launch, the recommended tier adds CPU headroom
The minimum processor choices are the Ryzen 3 1200 and Core i5-4460. The recommended choices move to the Ryzen 5 1600 and Core i7-4790. These are different performance classes, not two names for the same level of capability. A system that only clears the minimum may have less room for background applications or demanding moments than one built around the recommended class.
When checking a laptop or desktop, identify the exact CPU model rather than relying on a marketing label such as “Core i5” or “Ryzen 5.” Generation and model number matter. If your processor is newer but its model is unclear, compare its specifications with the listed CPUs instead of assuming that every newer-sounding name is automatically faster.
Graphics card: check both model class and dedicated video memory
The minimum graphics options are an RX 560 with 4 GB or a GTX 960 with 4 GB. The recommended options are an RX 580 with 8 GB or a GTX 1660 with 6 GB. The VRAM figures are part of the published requirement, so checking only the GPU family is not enough. Integrated graphics are not named in the listing and should not be treated as meeting the requirement without independent confirmation.
Use the exact GPU model shown in Windows, not the name of the graphics driver package. On a desktop, open the graphics section of Task Manager or Device Manager; on a laptop, verify whether the game will use the dedicated GPU rather than an integrated chip. If a machine has two adapters, the weaker integrated adapter may be selected by default until you choose the high-performance option in Windows graphics settings.

Memory: 8 GB is the floor, 16 GB leaves more operating room
Steam specifies 8 GB of RAM for minimum operation and 16 GB for the recommended tier. RAM is shared by Windows, Steam, voice software, browsers, and the game, so closing unnecessary applications is especially useful on an 8 GB machine. Upgrading to 16 GB aligns the system with the recommended memory figure, but it does not compensate for a processor or GPU that falls below the listed class.
Storage: reserve the full 72 GB before installing
Both tiers list 72 GB of available space. Treat that as free capacity required on the installation drive, not as the total size of the drive. Leave additional room for Windows updates, temporary files, and future game updates; a drive that is exactly full can cause installation or patching failures even when the nominal requirement has been met.
Operating system and network
The listed operating system is 64-bit Windows 10. Steam also requires broadband internet for the game. The specifications do not publish a bandwidth number, latency target, or offline mode, so a wired connection or strong Wi-Fi is sensible for stability but cannot be presented as an official requirement.

Single-player does not mean offline
Steam marks Rainbow Six Extraction as supporting single-player, but the same Steam metadata lists broadband internet as a requirement. You can enter a mission alone, yet you should plan to be connected to the internet and signed in to the required services. Do not buy or install it expecting a fully offline campaign.

Online co-op for one to three players
The game is built around squads of up to three players. A solo run is the one-player case; a full squad has three participants. Online co-op means teammates join over the network, so each participant needs a compatible installation, an internet connection, and the account setup required by the platform.
Cross-platform multiplayer
Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer. That indicates that Steam players can use the game’s multiplayer system with players on other supported platforms. It does not imply that every platform has identical controls, graphics settings, or storefront policies. If a friend cannot join, confirm that everyone is running the same game version and has completed the required account linking before troubleshooting the network.

Installing and preparing the Steam version
- Check Windows and hardware. Confirm that the PC is running 64-bit Windows 10 and compare the exact CPU, GPU, RAM, and free storage with the table above.
- Free the installation space. Ensure at least 72 GB is available on the target drive. Keep extra capacity for temporary installation files and updates rather than filling the drive to its limit.
- Install through Steam. Select the game in your Steam library or store client, choose an installation drive with sufficient free space, and let the download and file verification finish.
- Prepare broadband access. Pause large downloads on the same connection while installing or playing. If your router uses separate Wi-Fi bands, use the one that gives the PC the strongest, least congested signal, or connect Ethernet.
- Complete the Ubisoft Account link. Follow the sign-in or account-creation prompt when Steam launches the game. Use the account you intend to keep associated with this copy.
- Set up captions and input devices. Open the in-game settings before your first serious mission. Confirm your display, audio, subtitle/caption, mouse, keyboard, and controller choices.
- Test a solo session first. A short solo run lets you verify that the game launches, audio works, and the network connection remains stable before inviting teammates.
Choosing whether your PC needs an upgrade

Common setup problems and targeted fixes
Steam says there is not enough space
Check the free space on the specific drive selected for the library, not just the space on another drive. Remove unused files, move another game, or select a drive with more capacity. Recheck after downloads because Steam may need working room while unpacking files.
The game launches on the wrong graphics adapter
On a system with integrated and dedicated graphics, open Windows Settings, go to System > Display > Graphics, add the game if necessary, and choose the high-performance GPU option. Then restart the game and verify the adapter in its graphics settings. Laptop power-saving modes can also override the preferred adapter, so test while connected to AC power.
Login or linking loops appear
Close the game and Steam, confirm that the Ubisoft Account credentials are correct, and relaunch from Steam. Check that the intended Ubisoft Account is being used rather than a different account already saved in the browser or launcher. If the account link belongs to another person, resolve that ownership issue before repeatedly reinstalling.

Friends cannot join a squad
Confirm that cross-platform play is enabled where the game exposes that setting, everyone has finished account linking, and all players are fully updated. Restarting the game after an update can refresh the session state. If one player can play solo but nobody can join, compare network restrictions and router rules rather than lowering graphics settings.
Voice communication is unreliable
Check the operating system’s input device, the game’s selected microphone, and permission settings. A USB gaming headset with a microphone is an optional convenience for coordinated squad play; it is not listed as a mandatory hardware requirement. Test the microphone in a private session before inviting a full group.
Performance is poor despite meeting the minimum
The published requirements do not include benchmark FPS figures, so there is no official frame-rate threshold to diagnose against. Ubisoft describes a Buddy Pass that lets a player invite two friends to play Rainbow Six Extraction for 14 days at no charge with the owner, from any platform, even when those friends do not own the game. The offer is a time-limited access arrangement, not a permanent license. Because the invitation depends on Ubisoft’s account and platform systems, each invited player should complete the account-linking steps and install the supported version before joining.
What the published specifications do not tell you

Steam provides single-player, online co-op for one to three players, cross-platform multiplayer, and captions, while a linked Ubisoft Account is required. Solo missions still depend on the published online requirement, and a headset is useful for teamwork but optional.
