It does not include RACQ Roadside Assistance: breakdown help is a separate service. Whether the insurance is worth buying depends on your individual quote, excess, vehicle value basis, policy conditions and the alternatives available for the same driver and car.
What RACQ comprehensive car insurance covers
RACQ describes its comprehensive policy as covering vehicle damage and damage to other people’s vehicles or property in circumstances that include accidents, theft, vandalism and natural disasters such as hail, flood and fire. These are product-page summaries, not a complete statement of cover. Definitions, limits, exclusions and conditions in the applicable Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and any supplementary PDS determine how cover works for a particular policy. Repairs, towing and storage
RACQ advertises a choice of repairer and a lifetime repair guarantee when it authorizes the claim and the policyholder uses an RACQ Selected Repairer. It also describes towing and storage after an accident or theft, subject to stated conditions and limits. Check the PDS for the rules that apply to your circumstances, including any requirements for authorization and the scope of the guarantee.

No. RACQ says comprehensive car insurance is not legally compulsory in Queensland or elsewhere in Australia. Legal requirements and financial exposure are separate questions: without suitable cover, you may have to pay for damage to your own car or property damage you cause, depending on the circumstances.

Does RACQ comprehensive insurance include roadside assistance?
No. RACQ states, “RACQ Car Insurance policies do not include Roadside Assistance cover.” RACQ Roadside Assistance is a separate service with its own tiers, eligibility rules and terms. RACQ’s roadside terms, effective 2 July 2026, make the distinction explicit: “Roadside Assistance does not cover you for an Insurable Event and is not a substitute for motor vehicle insurance.” Insurance addresses covered loss or damage under a policy; roadside assistance is for specified breakdown services.

The following prices are those RACQ listed as valid from 1 January 2026. They are not a quote for your insurance, and roadside prices or terms may have changed since that date. Check RACQ’s current Roadside Assistance page and the applicable terms before buying. The service limits and vehicle eligibility conditions vary by tier.

RACQ describes increasing attendance and towing distances at higher tiers. Choose based on the trips you make and the assistance you would actually use, rather than assuming that a higher tier removes all limits. The figures above are dated list prices, not a guarantee of today’s price or of eligibility.
Discounts and membership: advertised offers are not your quote
RACQ’s comprehensive insurance page advertises a $50 online discount, a multi-policy discount of up to 5% for customers with at least three eligible RACQ policies, and a no-claim discount of up to 60%. The amounts are advertised discounts, not guaranteed savings for every applicant; eligibility and how discounts apply to your premium need to be confirmed for your quote. RACQ also publishes member-level insurance discounts, including a $50 amount for cover effective on or after 4 March 2026. Do not assume that separate offers stack. See RACQ’s insurance discount information and ask which terms apply to your cover start date.

RACQ says membership is available with eligible products and that some product purchases automatically grant membership, subject to exclusions and terms. Membership status does not establish that you qualify for any particular discount. RACQ explains its eligibility and benefits on its membership page.
How to judge whether RACQ is worth it for you
There is no single verdict that applies to every driver: premiums and relevant policy details depend on the individual vehicle and circumstances. The published product summary and discounts alone do not establish that RACQ is cheaper, better value or more suitable than another insurer. Compare actual offers using the same driver and vehicle details, cover period and vehicle value basis.

- Premium and vehicle value: Compare the final premium and establish how the insured value is set. Make sure you are comparing equivalent cover periods and value bases.
- Excess: Check the standard excess and any optional excesses, then consider what you would have to contribute to a claim.
- Cover and exclusions: Read the PDS for the events covered, exclusions, limits and any optional benefits relevant to you, such as hire car or windscreen cover.
- Repair conditions: Compare repairer choice, any authorization requirements and the conditions attached to repair guarantees.
- After an incident: Review the policy’s claim steps and the rules for towing, storage and emergency repairs.
- Discounts: Compare the premium after applicable discounts and confirm eligibility and whether advertised offers can be combined.
- Breakdown help: Treat roadside assistance as a separate line item when comparing insurers, because RACQ says it is not part of its car insurance policies.
For the specific cover being offered, read the applicable PDS, any supplementary PDS and Target Market Determination, then compare them with the quote. A product overview is not an individualized quote or a decision about how a future claim would be assessed.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
RACQ’s product pages and policy documents are the relevant sources for its advertised features, current terms and prices. They do not independently demonstrate that its premiums are competitive or predict how a particular claim will be handled. RACQ’s FY25 annual report reports a net promoter score of 67.6 for the member relationship; that is an RACQ-reported relationship measure, not a comprehensive-insurance claims satisfaction score or an independent assessment of an individual claim.
