It covers an unlimited number of trips, but each trip must fit the selected 30-, 45- or 60-day maximum. The key drawback for Australians using it at home: it does not cover medical, hospital, dental or evacuation expenses for the Australian portion of a trip.
How RACQ Annual Multi-Trip works
The policy is issued by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. and is managed by Tokio Marine Management (Australasia) Pty Ltd. RACQ’s current Combined Financial Services Guide and Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), including policy wording, is effective 31 March 2026. Which wording applies depends on the cover start date, so existing policyholders should check their Certificate of Insurance and the policy documents applicable to them. Read the PDS.

Annual Multi-Trip is for leisure travel, not corporate or business travel. It covers international journeys and Australian trips more than 250 km from the traveller’s home. International trips must begin and end in Australia; domestic trips must remain within Australia. The policy must be bought before the trip starts.
- Number of trips: Unlimited during the 12-month policy period.
- Maximum trip length: Choose 30, 45 or 60 days, or follow the duration shown on the Certificate of Insurance. A longer journey will not fit the selected maximum.
- Reinstated limits: Policy sums insured are automatically reinstated when each trip is completed.
- Destinations: Include the countries and regions you plan to visit when buying international cover. RACQ says destinations affect the premium. Contact RACQ if plans change; a destination change may affect the premium.
What RACQ Annual Multi-Trip covers—and its limits
The PDS lists the following headline limits for international travel. These are policy limits, not unconditional payments: definitions, eligibility conditions, exclusions, excesses and sub-limits apply. Some item limits fall within the overall luggage limit. RACQ’s benefits summary also directs readers to the PDS for full terms.

What does RACQ travel insurance cover?
For Annual Multi-Trip, the answer depends on where you travel, what happens, and the conditions and limits in the PDS. International cover includes the listed overseas medical, emergency and other benefits, subject to policy terms. Australian travel more than 250 km from home is eligible travel, but the policy does not cover medical, hospital, dental or evacuation expenses for the Australian portion of a journey. Do not treat “unlimited” medical cover as removing exclusions or other policy requirements.
For overseas medical or repatriation emergencies, the PDS provides a 24-hour assistance number. Contact the assistance team as soon as reasonably practicable if you are hospitalised or expect outpatient consultation or treatment to exceed $2,000. The PDS warns that failing to seek approval may affect the amount payable.

Who can buy it and who can be covered?
Annual Multi-Trip is available to travellers up to age 75. The PDS sets citizenship, permanent residency or qualifying Australian visa requirements. Visa holders must meet stated conditions, including having a valid Medicare card, an Australian primary residence and, for international plans, a return ticket. Confirm the full eligibility rules in the PDS before purchase.

Decisions to make before getting a quote
Choose the excess
The Annual Multi-Trip excess options are $0, $100 or $250. The selected excess appears on the Certificate of Insurance and affects the premium. Consider it alongside the premium and the costs you would be prepared to pay yourself if you claim.
Disclose medical conditions and check the outcome
Some medical conditions may be covered automatically when the PDS criteria are met; other conditions require assessment if you want cover. Do not assume a condition is covered based on the plan name or a general description. Disclose accurately and confirm the insurer’s decision for your circumstances.

Check cruise arrangements
River cruising is included automatically. Ocean cruising may require the optional Cruise Benefits option, and the PDS gives special instructions for Australian and international cruises. Check how your exact itinerary must be declared before buying.
Add winter-sports cover where needed
The Ski and Winter Sports option must be selected for cover for accidents while skiing or participating in winter sports. The PDS also lists activities that are excluded or covered only under specific conditions, including some high-altitude trekking and mountain biking, backcountry skiing, professional sport, and certain climbing or aerial activities. Check the activity wording rather than assuming all recreational pursuits are included.

Understand the COVID-19 wording
RACQ’s summary states a maximum cancellation benefit of $10,000 for COVID-19-related claims on Annual Multi-Trip. The PDS extends cover only in specified sections and excludes other pandemic- or epidemic-related claims. The benefit is subject to the PDS’s terms and exclusions; read the wording for the event and costs you are considering.

RACQ’s PDS says Annual Multi-Trip “can be a good alternative if You plan to make multiple Trips over a 12 month period.” That is a description of the product’s intended use, not a guarantee of savings or suitability. Compare the policy against your own travel pattern and get like-for-like quotes; destinations, excess and optional extras can affect the price.
- Count your eligible trips and check each one fits the chosen duration.
- Verify every international destination and region is included.
- Compare cancellation cover, luggage limits and relevant item sub-limits against what you need to insure.
- Account for the Australian domestic medical, dental and evacuation exclusion if your itinerary includes domestic travel.
- Confirm age, residency and medical-condition eligibility for each insured person.
- Include any required cruise or winter-sports options when comparing premiums.
RACQ states that members save 15% on the premium payable, excluding GST, stamp duty and other taxes; the offer can be amended or withdrawn. Check the current quote terms to see whether it applies to you. Check RACQ’s current travel insurance information.
