RAA Premium is designed for members who travel beyond the city and want more help when a breakdown leaves them stranded away from home. RAA listed it at $24.49 per month for 12 months ($293 for the year) when its comparison page was checked on 7 October 2026. The main reasons to consider it over lower tiers are longer country service and towing limits, unlimited call-outs subject to excessive-use terms, and accommodation, hire-car and vehicle-recovery benefits. Its value depends on how often you travel and whether the published distance and dollar caps fit your needs.
What RAA Premium covers
RAA Personal Road Service covers the member, not a particular vehicle. RAA describes it as 24/7 assistance Australia-wide. Its three personal tiers are Standard, Plus and Premium; Premium is positioned for long-distance drivers. That individual-cover structure means another person in your household needs their own product to be covered. See RAA’s tier comparison for the current offer and terms.

For interstate breakdowns, RAA says assistance is routed through sister clubs. The equivalent base-level product in that state or territory applies, and additional services may cost extra; reimbursement may be available subject to limits. Confirm what applies to your trip and membership before relying on a higher-tier benefit interstate. RAA addresses this in its Road Service Help Centre.
How much does RAA Premium cost?
RAA’s comparison page listed Premium at $24.49 per month for 12 months, or $293 a year, when accessed on 7 October 2026. RAA notes that instalments may vary slightly due to rounding while the total premium stays the same. Treat this as a dated listing rather than a guaranteed quote: check the current price and annual total before joining.

What are the country and towing limits?
RAA’s published limits distinguish between how far assistance may travel, how far a tow may go, and the amount RAA will contribute toward certain towing. They are not interchangeable: a distance limit does not necessarily mean every tow within that distance is fully paid for.

What help is included for common breakdowns?
- Call-outs: Unlimited, subject to RAA’s excessive-use terms.
- Battery trouble: Diagnosis and either a jump-start or an offer to sell an RAA battery installed without charge. Premium members receive a $20 discount on an RAA battery.
- Fuel: Emergency fuel is available for sale in an amount intended to get you to the nearest fuel outlet.
- Lockouts: Lockout assistance is listed. If a locksmith is needed because the vehicle or caravan is disabled, Premium includes a contribution of up to $150 per year.
- Flat tyre: A wheel change is available if you have a suitable spare.
- Taxi and second tow: A taxi benefit of up to $55 per year applies when the vehicle is eligible for towing. If the first tow could only take the vehicle to safety, a second tow to the nominated repairer is available within 14 days.
- Other covered items: RAA lists Road Service for caravans and trailers, bicycles and mobility scooters, subject to the applicable guide.
The battery benefit is assistance from RAA, not a portable jump starter included with the membership. RAA does not state that members need to carry their own starter.

RAA’s comparison lists away-from-home benefits when you are more than 100 km from home and the vehicle cannot be repaired at the roadside. Premium includes up to five nights of accommodation and up to seven days of hire car, subject to daily and monetary limits. It also lists vehicle recovery up to $2,000 per subscription year if the vehicle cannot be repaired within 48 hours. Passenger transport assistance may be available under specified conditions and caps.

The RAA selector describes different options depending on how quickly the vehicle can be repaired. If it can be repaired locally within 48 hours, up to two nights’ accommodation and car hire may be covered within the stated daily caps. If repairs take longer, the member may be able to choose local accommodation and a hire car, a hire car to travel home or onward, air or bus fares, or recovery of the vehicle home or to a destination. Passenger, pet and caravan or trailer transport assistance may also apply within specified caps. A stolen vehicle or crash has a separate accommodation and hire-car benefit. These are conditional entitlements, not automatic payments; check the Road Service selector and the guide for your cover.
When might Premium be worth the higher tier?
Premium is most relevant if you regularly drive long distances, especially in country areas, or would value options for accommodation, onward travel or vehicle recovery after a remote breakdown. The practical decision is whether those benefits justify the price difference from Plus or Standard for your likely travel and household needs. RAA’s comparison page sets out the tiers; compare the same date-specific entitlement guides rather than relying on tier names alone.

- Consider Premium if the longer country attendance and towing limits, away-from-home choices, or specialised-towing contribution address trips you actually make.
- Compare lower tiers if most driving is local and you are unlikely to need the extended distance or away-from-home benefits.
- Check household coverage if multiple drivers need protection: the product covers an individual, not everyone who shares a car.
What restrictions should you check before joining?
RAA says there are restrictions or fees for call-outs booked within 48 hours of purchase, pre-existing breakdowns and some additional product-holder situations. In the relevant circumstances, its selector displays a $154 service fee for new members and $114 for existing members. Away-from-home benefits do not apply during the first 48 hours or to pre-existing breakdowns. Read the conditions before buying if you are joining because a problem has already started.
Unlimited call-outs are still subject to excessive-use terms, and benefits are subject to their individual limits and exclusions. Road Service is for breakdowns or unexpected mechanical or electronic issues, not general crash towing or comprehensive insurance. RAA says that for a crash tow in South Australia, drivers should contact the SA Government Accident Towing Service and then discuss next steps with their insurer.

RAA publishes different entitlement guides according to when cover was purchased or renewed. The guide page includes versions for cover starting on or after 1 July 2026, from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, and earlier active cover. Does RAA Premium cover friends and family?
No: RAA says Personal Road Service applies to the individual member, not automatically to friends or family who drive the same vehicle. Anyone else who needs cover requires their own product. RAA answers the question, “Will my Road Service cover my friends and family members?” in its Help Centre.
