Queensland Country Bank Home Contents Plus is contents insurance arranged by Queensland Country Bank under an agreement with Insurance Australia Limited (IAG), which provides it under the CGU brand. It is not a substitute for the building insurance arranged by a body corporate. Whether it suits you depends on the current policy wording, your contents and the quote you receive.
Who provides the policy, and what kind of cover is it?
Queensland Country Bank distributes the insurance under its own Australian financial services licence and an agreement with Insurance Australia Limited. IAG is the insurer; CGU is the brand under which the offering is provided. Queensland Country Bank’s product page describes it as contents cover.

CHOICE’s public listing identifies the product as a standard sum insured policy: you nominate a contents sum insured rather than receiving unlimited cover. Its public summary is not a full policy review, and CHOICE says its expert rating is unavailable on the public page, with parts of its review restricted to members. CHOICE’s listing should therefore be treated as a summary, not a substitute for the current Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) or your policy certificate.

Building insurance arranged for a strata scheme generally addresses the building and common property, not an owner’s personal belongings. Queensland Country Bank’s guidance says personal belongings generally are not covered by building insurance unless contents cover applies, and recommends checking the PDS because policies differ. Read the bank’s guidance on contents and building cover, and check the scheme’s insurance documents as well as your own policy.

Fixtures can sit near the boundary between an owner’s lot and the owners corporation’s responsibility. CHOICE’s listing describes some permanent fixtures as covered while excluding items insured by the owners corporation or common property. That is not enough to decide how a particular fixture is treated: confirm the current wording and ask the body corporate or strata manager how the scheme policy treats it.
What benefits are publicly listed?
The public product summary describes the following features. These are listing details, not confirmation that every benefit or limit applies to a new policy today; verify the current PDS and certificate, including exclusions, conditions and excesses.

Queensland Country Bank separately says reasonable temporary-accommodation costs may be covered after a covered event when the customer owns and lives in a home within a strata or similar scheme. Limits, exclusions and conditions apply; confirm the applicable wording before relying on this benefit.
- Other listed features: Contents in the open air, debris removal, emergency storage, lock replacement after a break-in, motor burnout, spoiled food, visitors’ belongings, fixtures and cover while moving house. The public listing does not establish the current limits or conditions for these items.
What should strata owners check before buying?
Start with the PDS that applies to your quote and the proposed policy certificate. Then compare policies on equivalent cover, rather than premium alone.
- Set a realistic sum insured. Check how the policy defines contents and how replacement value is determined. Include the belongings you would need to replace, not just the items that are easy to list.
- Check insured events and exclusions. Look specifically at flood, storm and accidental damage, and confirm whether the protection you expect is included or optional.
- Review limits for valuables. Identify per-item or category sub-limits and whether portable or specified-item cover is available for belongings taken outside the home.
- Compare excesses. Check the excess for each relevant claim type and any separate excesses that apply to optional cover.
- Read additional-benefit terms. Verify temporary accommodation, storage and other benefits, including their time or dollar limits, eligibility conditions and exclusions.
- Resolve fixture responsibility. Ask the body corporate or strata manager how the scheme policy treats the fixture, then check whether your own policy covers it.
- Compare the premium for matching protection. Use a current quote and account for the sum insured, options, limits and excess rather than comparing headline prices.
How much does it cost, and is it good value?
There is no current premium established for this policy; the price depends on the quote and the cover selected. Obtain a quote and compare its premium and excess with alternatives that provide equivalent protection.

The available public CHOICE listing does not provide an expert rating, price score or complete review, so it cannot establish that the policy is good or poor value. A sound value judgment requires your quote, the cover you actually need, the applicable PDS and comparable policy information.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can other contents policies tell you?
Other insurers’ products can provide comparison points, but their wording does not define this policy. For example, QBE’s contents insurance page describes its own cover for renters and strata owner-occupiers and lists PDS versions by effective date. Use it only as market context: assess Queensland Country Bank’s CGU-arranged product using its own applicable PDS and certificate.
