There is no universal winner. Choose Tenable One when you need the broadest documented, multi-domain exposure-management view; choose Rapid7 InsightVM with Exposure Command when threat-aware vulnerability ranking and remediation workflow are the center of your program; choose Wiz Exposure Management when cloud relationships, identities, attack paths and runtime context determine what matters most. Keep Qualys in the evaluation if you value TruRisk 2.0’s maximum-detection scoring and TruConfirm’s safe validation of real-world exploitability.
The right comparison is not a feature-count contest. It is a test of whether each platform can discover your assets, explain why a finding matters, assign it to the right owner and prove that exposure declined after remediation.

What Qualys TruRisk and TruConfidence do
Qualys has two relevant capabilities that shape this comparison. TruRisk 2.0 is the risk-scoring system, while TruConfirm is an exposure-validation layer inside Enterprise TruRisk Management. An alternative should therefore be judged on both prioritization and evidence of exploitability, not on vulnerability counts alone.
TruRisk 2.0 changes how severe findings surface
Qualys announced TruRisk 2.0 changes in 2025. The model moves from weighted averages to a maximum-detection-score approach. A severe exposure is no longer easily hidden by a large number of lower-severity findings. The platform also adds cloud resources, workloads, containers, web applications and other risk sources, and uses CVE identifiers to standardize counts across those sources.

Qualys says its current Enterprise TruRisk comparison material includes more than 25 threat-intelligence sources. That is a vendor-stated product figure, not an independent measurement of ranking accuracy. During a proof of concept, check which signals are actually available for your assets and how much each signal changes the resulting priority.
TruConfirm tests whether a prioritized exposure is exploitable
TruConfirm is described by Qualys as “an automated exposure-validation layer integrated within the Qualys Enterprise TruRisk Management (ETM) platform that safely confirms whether prioritized exposures are actually exploitable in production.” It uses benign techniques rather than destructive exploitation. The service can ingest findings from Qualys VMDR, Tenable, Rapid7 InsightVM and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, so an organization can validate selected findings without replacing every scanner.
This distinction matters. A score says which issue deserves attention; validation can show whether the issue is reachable and exploitable in the production context. An alternative that produces a different score but weaker evidence may not improve decisions, while an alternative with stronger context may reduce unnecessary emergency work.

Tenable One: the broadest directly documented suite
Tenable positions Tenable One as an integrated exposure-management platform spanning vulnerability management, web application security, cloud, identity, operational technology and attack-surface management. Its comparison material also highlights exposure analytics, peer benchmarking, vulnerability intelligence and patch-management integrations.
Why buyers shortlist it
- Multi-domain scope: A single program can potentially cover conventional vulnerability data alongside cloud, identity, OT, web applications and external attack surface.
- Benchmarking: Peer or internal benchmarks can help security leaders communicate whether exposure is improving, although the usefulness depends on comparable asset inventories and consistent scoring rules.
- Operational connections: Patch-management integrations and analytics are intended to connect discovery with remediation rather than leave findings in a separate reporting silo.
Questions to answer before selecting it
- How are findings from each module normalized and deduplicated when the same asset or CVE appears in several data sets?
- Which identity and OT technologies are covered in your country and environment, and are those capabilities included in the edition you are buying?
- Which ticketing, patch and workflow integrations are native, which require connectors, and which require extra licensing?
- Can the platform preserve business ownership, criticality and exception data from your CMDB during migration?
Tenable One is the strongest starting point when breadth and a common exposure view matter more than a cloud-only graph or a narrowly optimized vulnerability workflow. Its vendor positioning still needs to be tested against your actual modules and geography.
Rapid7 InsightVM and Exposure Command: threat-aware remediation
Rapid7 describes InsightVM as the vulnerability-management technology powering Exposure Command. The Essentials package combines InsightVM with attack-surface management, while Ultimate adds cloud and application security. Confirm the current package names and entitlements in a quote because capabilities are package-dependent.

Active Risk puts exploit context into a 0–1000 score
Rapid7’s Active Risk strategy uses a 0–1000 scale. Documentation says it combines current CVSS data with exploit and malware exposure, asset risk and feeds including AttackerKB, Metasploit, ExploitDB and the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list. The result is intended to distinguish a reachable, actively exploited issue from an equally severe issue with little evidence of practical attack exposure.

Rapid7 summarizes the operating idea as: “In this web of risk, prioritize what’s reachable.” That emphasis is useful when a security team needs a defensible queue for patch projects or service-level agreements rather than a flat list sorted only by CVSS.
Where Rapid7 is a good fit
- Security and IT teams already running a structured vulnerability-management program.
- Organizations that need asset-owner assignment, remediation projects and SLA tracking tied to risk.
- Environments where exploit, malware and attacker-intelligence signals should change the order of work.
Rapid7 checks that prevent surprises
- Package boundaries: Determine whether cloud, application and attack-surface context requires Exposure Command Ultimate or another add-on.
- Scanner reach: Test unmanaged endpoints, appliances, network devices, OT-like systems and segmented networks instead of relying on a standard server sample.
- Risk-strategy transition: Rapid7 documentation scheduled legacy strategies for deprecation on January 21, 2026. Check the current tenant configuration, available replacement strategy and any changed dashboards or API fields before comparing historical scores.
- Workflow evidence: Confirm that a closed ticket triggers rescanning or verification and that the resulting evidence is visible to both security and the asset owner.
Rapid7 is compelling when prioritization must connect directly to reachable risk and a repeatable remediation process. It is less suitable to assume that every Exposure Command context is present in the base InsightVM deployment.
Wiz Exposure Management: graph context for cloud and hybrid estates
Wiz says its Exposure Management service correlates and deduplicates findings from existing tools, then enriches them with code, cloud and runtime context from the Wiz Security Graph. Wiz ASM is used to validate external exploitability. This approach is designed for environments in which a vulnerability’s importance depends on relationships among an internet-facing workload, an identity, permissions, sensitive data and a reachable attack path.
Why the graph changes prioritization
A conventional scanner can report a vulnerable package. A graph can add the surrounding facts: whether the workload is exposed to the internet, which identity can reach it, what permissions that identity has, whether a path leads to a critical resource and whether runtime evidence shows the component is active. Correlation and deduplication can also reduce duplicate queues when several tools report the same underlying exposure.

Where Wiz is a good fit
- Cloud-first companies with multiple accounts, subscriptions or projects and complex identity relationships.
- Hybrid organizations that need code-to-cloud-to-runtime context in one prioritization view.
- Teams that want attack paths and external exploitability to determine urgency rather than severity alone.
Wiz validation points
- Measure on-premises scanner depth for servers, appliances and traditional network devices.
- Document agent requirements, permissions and account-connectivity prerequisites for every cloud and runtime source.
- Trace a graph finding into the actual patch, configuration or identity-remediation queue. A visually clear path is not enough if no owner can act on it.
- Test how quickly graph relationships update after a deployment, permission change or compensating control.
Wiz is the most natural alternative when cloud relationships and attack paths are the primary source of business context. It should not be assumed to replace deep traditional scanning without a representative on-premises test.

How the platforms differ on the criteria that matter
1. Asset coverage
Build an inventory before comparing dashboards. Include on-premises servers and endpoints, network devices, OT, cloud resources, containers, identities and applications. Tenable’s positioning is explicitly multi-domain. Rapid7’s available scope depends on the Exposure Command package. Wiz emphasizes cloud, code and runtime relationships, so traditional-device coverage requires validation. Qualys TruRisk 2.0 explicitly adds cloud resources, workloads, containers and web applications to its risk sources.
Ask each vendor to identify the sensor, connector or scan method for every asset class and to state whether the capability is included, optional or unsupported. “Supported” should mean that the platform can discover, identify, prioritize and send the asset to a remediation owner, not merely that it can import a record.
2. Risk model transparency
Request the inputs behind a score and the reason a score changed. Qualys uses maximum detected risk and CVE-based counts in TruRisk 2.0. Rapid7 Active Risk is a 0–1000 strategy combining CVSS, exploit and malware exposure, asset risk and named intelligence feeds. Wiz’s value is primarily contextual correlation through its Security Graph and attack paths. Tenable highlights analytics, benchmarking and intelligence but requires a test of how module-specific data is normalized.
Do not compare numerical scores as if 0–1000, a maximum score and a graph priority were interchangeable. Compare the quality of the decision each score supports: what should be fixed first, why, who owns it and what evidence would lower the priority.
3. Exploitability evidence
Threat intelligence can indicate that exploitation is active; reachability can show that an attacker can get to the asset; validation can test whether a specific exposure is exploitable in production. Qualys TruConfirm uses benign techniques and accepts selected third-party findings. Rapid7 emphasizes reachable risk and attacker context. Wiz combines graph relationships with Wiz ASM’s external-exploitability validation. Tenable should be tested for the evidence and workflow available in the editions under consideration.
During evaluation, give every platform the same known KEV vulnerability and an internet-facing application. Record whether each system distinguishes a merely present package from an exploitable path, and whether that distinction remains visible after remediation.

4. Remediation and verification
Prioritization has operational value only when it produces a useful action. Compare native patching or compensating-control options, ticketing, owner assignment, SLA timers, exception handling, API access and post-fix verification. Have an administrator create a ticket, reassign it, document an exception, apply a fix and confirm the evidence that risk decreased. Record the number of manual steps and whether the original finding is closed, superseded or merely hidden.

Ask how connectors ingest scanner, endpoint, cloud, application, identity and CMDB data; how duplicate findings are merged; and whether the platform preserves source evidence. Qualys can ingest findings from VMDR, Tenable, Rapid7 InsightVM and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint through TruConfirm. Wiz is explicitly oriented toward correlating existing-tool findings. For every platform, test API completeness, rate limits, export formats and the time required for a new asset or owner to appear.
6. Operating model
Compare SaaS and hybrid components, scan engines, network placement, tenant geography, data residency, administrative roles and update processes. A platform that appears simpler may shift work into connectors, permissions or professional services. Have the vendor diagram traffic and data flows for a segmented production network and document what continues to work during a connector outage.
7. Economics
No public, independently comparable pricing figure is established for these alternatives. Obtain a quote that separates base platform, asset or workload minimums, cloud and application modules, connectors, professional services, migration and renewal increases. Ask what happens when asset counts grow, cloud workloads are ephemeral or a previously optional module becomes necessary for the workflow you tested.

Recommended Free Tools
- Define the sample: include a hybrid inventory, representative cloud accounts, one internet-facing application, an identity path and a known vulnerability listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
- Agree on success criteria: discovery time, asset-identification accuracy, exploitability confidence, prioritization stability after remediation, owner assignment, ticket quality and evidence that risk declined.
- Connect data sources: use the same cloud accounts, scanner exports, endpoint data, CMDB fields and identity context where each product supports them. Record every connector or extra module required.
- Measure first discovery: timestamp when each asset appears, when its findings are normalized and when an owner can see an actionable item.
- Inspect the top queue: require an explanation for the first five priorities, including score inputs, reachability, exploit or malware evidence, business context and affected CVEs.
- Test validation: select a prioritized exposure and determine whether the product can safely validate exploitability, show an attack path or provide equivalent evidence without disrupting production.
- Run remediation: assign a ticket to the correct team, apply a patch or compensating control, rescan or refresh the graph and verify that the finding and risk state changed correctly.
- Stress the edges: repeat with an unmanaged asset, a segmented network, a duplicate finding from two tools, a cloud identity change and an exception. Document failures and manual workarounds.
- Score total effort: include deployment, tuning, connector maintenance, analyst review, asset-owner work, reporting and migration. Separate capabilities available now from roadmap statements.
Which alternative fits common operating models?
Choose Tenable One when breadth is the governing requirement
Select Tenable One when vulnerability, web, cloud, identity, OT and external attack-surface data must be managed in one program and benchmarking is important to leadership. Make the decision conditional on successful normalization and remediation tests for the modules you will actually buy.
Best Value
Choose Rapid7 when threat-aware vulnerability operations come first
Select Rapid7 InsightVM with the appropriate Exposure Command package when your priority is a mature vulnerability process with reachable-risk ranking, threat intelligence and owner-based remediation projects or SLAs. Verify package boundaries and the post-2026 risk-strategy configuration before signing off.
Choose Wiz when cloud attack paths explain business impact
Select Wiz Exposure Management when cloud, identity, code and runtime relationships determine whether a finding can become a material breach. Require a practical on-premises and traditional-network test, plus a demonstrated hand-off from graph insight to remediation.
Stay with or benchmark against Qualys when validation is decisive
Qualys remains a serious option if TruRisk 2.0’s maximum-detection approach matches your governance model and TruConfirm can validate the findings you care about. Its ability to ingest selected third-party scanner findings also makes it useful as a validation layer during a broader platform transition.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsLimitations to keep in the decision record
Vendor comparison pages describe intended capabilities, not independent performance. The figures “25+ threat-intelligence sources” for Qualys and “0–1000” for Rapid7 are vendor-stated product details, not comparative benchmarks. No universal winner or savings percentage follows from those claims. Your representative assets, network topology, licensing edition and remediation process determine the result.
Keep the final decision tied to observed evidence: coverage of the assets that matter, a transparent reason for each priority, credible exploitability context, low-friction ownership and proof that a completed fix actually reduces exposure.
