The 2017 HotHardware test puts the Quadro P4000 slightly ahead of AMD’s Radeon Pro WX 7100 and the P2000 slightly ahead of the WX 5100 in 3DMark Time Spy. It does not provide chart scores in the retrievable text, so the result is a qualitative ranking—not a basis for estimating score gaps or judging either card against current GPUs. The same review reports low total-system power and quiet idle operation, while NVIDIA’s specifications show the P4000 has more memory and a higher maximum power rating than the P2000.
What the Time Spy results show
HotHardware’s February 16, 2017 review used 3DMark Time Spy as a DirectX 12 performance data point. In that test, the P4000 finished just ahead of AMD’s Radeon Pro WX 7100, while the P2000 finished just ahead of the WX 5100. The review notes that gaming-oriented benchmarks are not the main measure of a professional GPU, so this result should be read as one DX12 comparison rather than a verdict on workstation application performance. The review’s chart values are not available in the retrieved page text. No numerical scores or performance margins can therefore be stated. The rankings describe those cards in that review’s test setup and period; they do not establish how the GPUs compare with newer hardware or how they perform in a particular professional application.
Power and noise in the review system
HotHardware measured power for the complete test system at the wall outlet, not power drawn by the GPU alone. Its qualitative report says the P2000 used the least power among the cards tested and the P4000 drew about 10 W less than the Radeon Pro WX 7100 under load. The available text does not give the chart readings, so those observations should not be converted into exact system-power figures or GPU-only consumption.
#1 Best Overall
- This Quadro P4000 is based on NVIDIA Pascal architecture and delivers up to 70% more performance than the NVIDIA maxwell-based Quadro M4000, system interface - PCI Express 3.0 x16
- With greater Graphics performance you can work with large models, scenes, and assemblies with improved interactive performance during design, visualization, and simulation.
- The P4000 is the most powerful, single slot VR Ready Professional visual computing solution.
- Tuned and tested drivers with support for the latest releases of OpenGL, DirectX, Vulkan, and NVIDIA CUDA ensure compatibility with the latest versions of professional applications.
- Creation and playback of HDR video H.264/hevc decode and encode engines.Supported platforms: Microsoft Windows 10 (64- and 32-bit), Microsoft Windows 8.1 and 8 (64- and 32-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 (64- and 32-bit), Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64- and 32-bit), Microsoft Windows Server 2012, Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 64, Microsoft Windows Server 2016, Linux – Full OpenGL implementation, complete with NVIDIA and ARB extensions (64- and 32-bit)
The reviewer described both cards as virtually silent at idle, with their fans becoming slightly audible under load. That is an observation from the review’s particular workstation and test environment, not a guarantee for every card, case, cooling setup, or used unit.

How to apply the comparison
- Memory capacity: The P4000’s listed 8 GB versus the P2000’s 5 GB is a relevant specification when a workload’s memory needs are a constraint. These figures alone do not establish which card is faster in a particular application.
- Power and cooling: The published maximum ratings are 105 W for the P4000 and 75 W for the P2000. Check the exact card, system power supply, airflow, and clearance requirements for the workstation you intend to use; the review’s wall measurements are whole-system readings, not card power.
- Fit and displays: Both cards are single-slot and list four DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, but the P4000 is longer. Confirm that the chassis has room for its 9.5-inch length, or the P2000’s 7.9-inch length, and that the outputs meet the display setup’s needs.
- Professional software: The Time Spy comparison does not answer application-specific performance or certification questions. NVIDIA’s desktop Quadro comparison page is a starting point for product information, but the sources here do not establish current driver support, application certification status, or present-day value for either older card.
What this 2017 review can—and cannot—tell you
This page is useful for understanding how the P4000 and P2000 ranked in one historical DX12 benchmark and how the reviewer characterized system power and noise in that test environment. It cannot establish current suitability for a specific professional workflow, present-day software compatibility, or whether either card is worth buying now. Those decisions require current information about the intended application, drivers and certifications, the condition and price of the specific card, and the workstation it must fit.
