Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Choose QD-OLED if you usually game in a dark or controllable-light room and want especially vivid color. Choose WOLED if your room is bright and keeping dark scenes looking black is the bigger priority. That is a useful starting point, not a universal verdict: resolution, refresh rate, text clarity, screen finish, price, and warranty depend on the exact monitor.
How QD-OLED and WOLED differ
Both are OLED technologies: each pixel emits its own light and can switch off for very dark scenes, rather than relying on an LCD-style backlight. Their color-producing structures differ. QD-OLED combines a blue OLED layer with quantum dots; WOLED uses a white OLED approach with red, green, blue, and white subpixels. The details of those subpixels have changed across generations, so the label alone does not tell you everything about a monitor’s image or text rendering.

What matters most in your room
Dark or controllable lighting
In a dark room, QD-OLED’s generally more vivid color is easier to appreciate. RTINGS’ general comparison identifies this as a common QD-OLED strength, but the result still depends on the monitor and its finish. RTINGS’ comparison
Bright rooms and reflections
Ambient light can make QD-OLED blacks look raised, while WOLED generally retains a darker-looking black in brighter surroundings. Windows, direct light, reflections, surface finish, and panel generation all affect what you see. If you cannot control room lighting, compare the exact monitors’ finish and bright-room performance rather than assuming every WOLED will look the same.
#1 Best Overall
- OLED Makes All The Difference: With a display of these mammoth-like proportions, everything must look good. The WQHD quantum dot OLED display with true 10Bit is obligated to offer stunning contrast, cinematic color. Image retention-refresh keeps the images from sticking.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- Fast and Furious: If you want seamless gameplay at ridiculous levels of speed, you’ve come to the right place. With an 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms (G to G) response time, your sessions will be fluid, unbroken and unmatched – with little to no ghosting.
- Brilliant Colors: With the DCI-P3 99% color gamut, Delta E<2, and HDR10, colors are practically bursting out of the screen. Enjoy the best imagery your games have to offer!
- Center of Vision: At 26.5-inches, the X27U is directly in your field of view. Considered a hallmark of eSports tournaments, this is the perfect size to gain an edge over your opponents. The addition of a ZeroFrame design also removes the bezels – giving you have even more visibly over every match and every movement your rivals make.
Compare the monitors, not just the panel labels
| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Room light and screen finish | Reflections and ambient light influence perceived black levels; QD-OLED blacks may look raised in brighter rooms. |
| Color volume and HDR behavior | Tom’s Hardware found higher color volume in the QD-OLED monitors it tested than in the WOLED monitors it tested. That result does not establish that every QD-OLED outperforms every WOLED, so check measurements for the specific models. Tom’s Hardware monitor testing |
| Peak versus sustained brightness | A peak-highlight figure does not tell you how bright a monitor remains over longer periods or across a full screen. Compare like-for-like measurements for the exact model. |
| Resolution, refresh rate, and variable refresh support | These model-specific features can matter more for competitive play than the panel family. Match resolution and refresh rate to your games and hardware. |
| Text and desktop use | Subpixel layout, pixel density, resolution, and viewing distance shape text clarity. Traditional triangular QD-OLED layouts can show colored fringing on text edges. |
| Care features and warranty | Static-content habits and the exact warranty language matter for either OLED type. Check the monitor’s own policy rather than inferring coverage from its panel label. |
| Local price, stock, and return terms | These vary by model and market. Verify the retailer listing and warranty for your country before buying. |
Text clarity matters if you also work on the monitor
If you spend hours reading documents, browsing, or coding, inspect the subpixel arrangement and independent model-specific text observations alongside gaming performance. Older triangular QD-OLED arrangements can produce colored fringing around text. Pixel density and how far you sit from the screen also affect how noticeable it is, so a higher resolution or smaller screen may change the experience.
Samsung Display announced mass production of a 34-inch, 360Hz QD-OLED panel with a V-Stripe subpixel layout, reported by Tom’s Hardware on January 3, 2026. A panel announcement does not establish that a particular retail monitor uses that layout. Confirm the subpixel arrangement for the monitor you are considering. Brightness claims need model-level context
There is no single brightness winner across all scenes and products. A manufacturer’s peak figure, an independent measurement of a particular monitor, and sustained or full-screen brightness are different kinds of evidence. For example, LG Display’s Tandem WOLED technology page advertises 540Hz at QHD, 0.02ms GtG, 1,500 nits peak brightness, and 99.5% DCI-P3. These are LG Display technology claims, not specifications guaranteed for every WOLED monitor or an independent head-to-head result. LG Display’s Tandem WOLED page

This example is not a guarantee that QD-OLED is the better buy: it shows why resolution, refresh rate, finish, ports, and brightness claims should be assessed on the particular monitor rather than inferred from its panel type.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Both technologies carry a burn-in risk
Burn-in is persistent image retention that remains visible after the displayed content changes. Repeatedly showing static elements—such as a taskbar or a fixed game HUD—can contribute to the exposure pattern. Varying content reduces that pattern but cannot guarantee a panel will not burn in. RTINGS reports no significant burn-in difference between QD-OLED and WOLED; Tom’s Hardware notes that an ordinary monitor review period is too short to establish lifetime endurance. Use the monitor’s care features and read its specific warranty terms. RTINGS on QD-OLED and WOLED · Tom’s Hardware monitor testing
