This review covers QBE Home Insurance in Australia. QBE’s product can cover a building, contents, or both, but the policy schedule and the applicable Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) determine what is actually insured. The available official information describes the product and its options; it does not establish how QBE compares on price, claims satisfaction, or settlement speed.
What QBE Home Insurance covers in Australia
QBE says its home insurance can cover a building, contents, or both. Its Australian product page describes cover for events such as fire, flood, storm, theft, vandalism, and water damage, but these examples are not a promise that every event or type of damage is covered under every policy. Check the relevant PDS for definitions, exclusions, limits, and conditions, and check your certificate for the specific property and people insured.

Building, contents, or combined cover
- Building cover is for the insured building, subject to the policy terms.
- Contents cover is for insured belongings. Contents-only cover does not insure the building.
- Combined cover may suit someone seeking protection for both, but the insured items, limits, and conditions still depend on the policy selected.
QBE also states a maximum headline benefit of up to $30 million for legal liability cover. That is not a guarantee of payment for every incident or a benefit that should be assumed to apply without conditions; consult the PDS for its scope, exclusions, and terms.

Options to check
QBE lists accidental-damage cover as an option that can be added to Home Insurance or Contents Insurance for an additional premium. Portable contents is also listed as an upgrade. Check the PDS and certificate for the applicable terms, limits, and exclusions before relying on either option.

Why quotes differ
QBE says premiums may depend on whether you insure the building, contents, or both; the property’s location, age, and construction; the sum insured; the basic excess; household information and claims history; and selected optional cover. There is no useful universal price: request a quote for your address and compare it with other quotes for the same insured risks, limits, and excesses.
QBE’s Australian product page advertises a 10% saving on a new online home, contents, or landlord policy. Treat this as a current offer to verify, not a permanent product feature; check eligibility and terms on the live quote journey.

Which policy documents to read
QBE’s Australian document index lists several documents with different purposes. The applicable versions can depend on when your policy began or renewed, so use the documents linked for your policy rather than assuming the newest document governs an older policy.
- Product Disclosure Statement (PDS): the main source for policy terms, including cover, exclusions, limits, and conditions. QBE lists PDS QM8697-1124 for policies commencing or renewing effective on or after 11 November 2024.
- Additional Information Guide (AIG): explains matters including premium setting, excesses, and claim payment. QBE lists QM8700-0425 as effective from 1 April 2025.
- Key Facts Sheets: provide key information about the relevant cover.
- Target Market Determination (TMD): describes the product’s target market. QBE lists TMD QM9143-0826 as effective from 18 August 2026.
- Certificate of insurance: records the specific people and property insured under your policy.
Use QBE’s Australian home insurance page and policy-document index to locate the relevant information. Read the PDS alongside your certificate: broad product descriptions do not replace the cover and details recorded for your policy.
How to assess value against another policy
The official product information does not establish that QBE is cheaper or more expensive than other insurers. Nor does it provide an independent comparative price analysis. To make a useful comparison, line up quotes for the same property and consider:
- Whether each quote covers the building, contents, or both.
- Which events are covered, and the relevant exclusions, sublimits, and conditions.
- Whether accidental damage or cover for portable contents is included or optional.
- The excesses and the sum insured, including the assumptions used for rebuilding.
- How claims are lodged and what documentation may be needed.
- The final quote for equivalent cover and risk details.
Claims and preparing an inventory
QBE Australia says customers can lodge a claim online or call 133 723, with the line available 24 hours a day. That availability does not establish a typical settlement time or customer satisfaction level; the reviewed Australian information gives no general settlement-time commitment or verified satisfaction statistic.

A practical step is to keep an inventory of belongings and save records that can help identify what you own. A spreadsheet or a folder of dated photos is sufficient for making a record; a notebook is optional. QBE’s US consumer guidance mentions examples such as receipts, manuals, warranty certificates, account statements, and photos or videos as possible proof of ownership. That is US guidance, not confirmation that QBE Australia requires those exact items. Ask the Australian claims team what documentation applies to your claim.

Keep the country and policy wording straight
This article is about QBE Australia. QBE also publishes home-insurance information for other markets, but coverage, terms, and documents differ by country. For example, QBE Malaysia describes its own product and perils under separate Malaysian documents; those terms should not be used to interpret an Australian policy. Check the Australian PDS and certificate for your cover rather than relying on a general description from another market.
