How to tell when it is time
Base the decision on the lawn and local weather, not a fixed date. Husqvarna advises keeping its Automower working while grass is actively growing, then reducing mowing as growth slows in mild climates. Its seasonal guidance recommends leaving the grass 6–8 cm long before winter; the page does not state a publication year. Husqvarna’s seasonal guide also advises using Frost Guard to park supported mowers when frost is forecast or detected.

Segway Navimow’s European seasonal blog suggests winterizing when nighttime temperatures consistently fall below 10 °C and growth stagnates, and bringing the mower inside no later than the first frost. On supported Husqvarna models, Frost Guard’s Smart Routine parks the mower when the forecast predicts temperatures below 5 °C. Models with a built-in sensor can park when it detects 5 °C or below at scheduled start time. These are Husqvarna feature thresholds for frost protection; they are not a general winter-storage rule for other brands.

Prepare the mower before storing it
- Finish mowing for the season. Stop when growth has ended or nearly ended, and avoid mowing in frost-risk conditions. If growth continues in a mild climate, Husqvarna says mowing can continue on a reduced schedule as needed.
- Clean and inspect the mower. Clean the chassis, wheels, blade disc and charging contacts. Husqvarna advises replacing cutting blades and screws before winter storage. Wear protective gloves when handling blades. Husqvarna’s cleaning and maintenance instructions
- Follow the battery procedure for your model. Storage charge levels and maintenance differ. Check the exact manual before switching off or enabling a storage mode.
- Decide what to do with the whole installation. The charging station, power supply, antenna and wires may have different winter instructions from the mower itself.
- Store equipment in the conditions specified by its maker. Keep it dry and within the model’s temperature limits; do not assume one brand’s range applies to another.

What to do with the charging station, wires and antenna
Husqvarna Automower installations
Husqvarna’s general guidance says to store the charging station and power supply indoors, with specified product exceptions. Boundary and guide wires can remain installed. The Automower NERA baseplate can stay outdoors while the station top is stored indoors, and an EPOS reference station is designed for year-round outdoor use. If a charging station that should be stored indoors must remain outside, Husqvarna says to keep it connected to mains power, leave the wires connected and provide weather protection. The Navimow i-series guide directs owners to disconnect and store the charging station and antenna cable, and to mark the charging station’s location before moving it.
