Where the $90 claim came from
A Motley Fool Community post from 2017 mentions a $90 PureVPN lifetime subscription. It is a forum reference rather than a current merchant checkout page, so it does not establish today’s price, availability, redemption method, refund policy or renewal rights.
Older deal discussions also used different prices and wording. The evidence does not identify a currently purchasable PureVPN offer at $90, and there is no verified current signup path attached to that figure.
What “lifetime” meant in the historical offer
A 2015 OzBargain discussion reproduced seller terms describing a five-year initial subscription. The listing said customers could contact StackCommerce at the end of that period to request a renewal at no additional charge. Buyers debated whether “lifetime” meant five years or another five-year period; a seller response clarified the five-year initial term.

That language should not be read as a perpetual, non-expiring license. It was a historical representation tied to a reseller listing, and any renewal depended on the documented terms and the reseller process.
A later renewal dispute
In a May 2025 TidBITS account, writer Adam Engst described purchasing a 2017 PureVPN subscription through StackCommerce. While seeking another five-year period, he wrote, “I want to renew my PureVPN subscription per the terms of the deal.” He reported that StackCommerce did not provide the requested five-year PureVPN renewal, instead offering an alternative VPN and later a two-year PureVPN extension.

Engst’s account is one customer’s experience, not proof that every purchaser received the same response. It does show why a reseller-mediated “lifetime” promotion should be judged by its receipt and original offer language, rather than by the headline alone.

What PureVPN currently says about privacy
PureVPN’s privacy policy, updated February 25, 2026, says the company collects account details such as a name, email address, password and payment method, along with software analytics and information supplied through support channels.

The same policy states that PureVPN does not store browsing activity, identifiable connection logs, records of assigned IP addresses, a customer’s original IP address, connection timestamps, sites visited, outgoing traffic, accessed content or DNS queries. It also describes limited qualifications for optional features including Dedicated IP, Extended WireGuard Duration, and Tracker and Ad Blocker. These are the provider’s stated practices, not a claim that the service collects no information at all.
What is known about independent assessment
PureVPN’s published no-log assessment page dates an assessment of VPN servers and supporting infrastructure to February 16–22, 2023, with validation in March and April 2023. The page now refers to a fourth successful assessment and an always-on audit posture, but the available material does not provide a named auditor or a complete current report for that later assessment.

Accordingly, the dated 2023 work should be identified as a past assessment rather than presented as a current independent test.

PureVPN Support says one account can have up to 10 devices connected at the same time; that article was updated February 6, 2026. This is the general current support limit. It does not prove that an old $90 or five-year promotion carried the same entitlement, so historical buyers should check their specific terms.

One provider-reported transparency figure
PureVPN’s own transparency report for H1 2025 says it received 41,790 IP takedown notices related to P2P infringement. That is a figure published by PureVPN for that reporting period, not an independent measurement of speed, privacy or service quality.
What to verify before paying or trying to renew
- Find the original seller and receipt. Confirm whether the seller was StackSocial, StackCommerce or another distributor.
- Read the duration clause. Look for the initial term, the meaning of “lifetime,” and whether renewal requires contacting the reseller.
- Check the current redemption route. Do not assume an old activation code, account or support address still works.
- Confirm renewal in writing. Ask which company handles it, how many years are offered, and whether the replacement is PureVPN or another service.
- Check present-day service terms. Review the current privacy policy, device allowance, refund rules and any restrictions attached to legacy codes.
Bottom line for the $90 headline
The $90 figure is a historical reference, not a verified live PureVPN deal. The best-supported interpretation of the old promotion is a five-year initial subscription with a reseller-mediated renewal promise, while a 2025 customer report shows that obtaining the promised renewal could be contested. Unless a current seller publishes clear terms and a working redemption path, do not treat “lifetime” or $90 as guaranteed for a new purchase.
