To render Bengali text in a Puppeteer screenshot, install Bengali-capable fonts in the same Ubuntu machine, VM, or container that runs Chromium. Start with Ubuntu’s fonts-beng package, then launch Puppeteer and capture the page with page.screenshot(). Installing fonts on your separate development computer will not help a browser running in an isolated container.
Install Bengali fonts in Puppeteer’s Ubuntu runtime
Run Ubuntu’s package manager in the environment that actually launches Puppeteer. The fonts-beng metapackage is a practical starting point: Ubuntu describes it as providing Bengali and Assamese fonts, and its package dependencies include fonts-lohit-beng-bengali, a Bengali TrueType font. See Ubuntu’s Jammy package details.

If your page still needs additional Bengali font choices, install Ubuntu’s supplemental collection:

sudo apt-get install -y fonts-beng-extraUbuntu describes
fonts-beng-extraas additional TrueType fonts for Bengali. Its availability and package version depend on the Ubuntu release; the Noble package page is specific to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. -
Restart or rebuild the browser runtime after installing fonts, then take a fresh screenshot. If Puppeteer runs in Docker, put the installation in the image build so the fonts are present when Chromium starts.
These package commands follow Ubuntu’s package names and descriptions; the cited package pages do not demonstrate them in a Puppeteer test or guarantee a particular site’s typeface or glyph shaping.

Once the fonts are installed in the browser environment, use Puppeteer’s normal navigation-and-capture flow. The following CommonJS script accepts a target URL, waits for navigation to become network-idle, saves a full-page PNG, and closes the browser:
const puppeteer = require('puppeteer');
(async () => {
const browser = await puppeteer.launch({ headless: true });
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto(process.argv[2] || 'https://example.com', {
waitUntil: 'networkidle2',
timeout: 60000,
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'bengali-page.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})().catch((error) => {
console.error(error);
process.exitCode = 1;
});
Run it with node capture.js https://your-bengali-site.example. Puppeteer documents Page.screenshot() as the page capture method and shows navigation followed by a screenshot in its screenshots guide (documentation version 25.12.0). The guide’s example uses networkidle2; a site that loads content later may need a more specific readiness condition. A screenshot call does not install fonts or ensure every page-specific resource is ready.

Troubleshoot missing or incorrect Bengali text
-
Boxes or tofu remain: Confirm the packages were installed in the exact container, VM, or host where Puppeteer launches Chromium. Installing them on a developer workstation does not make them available to a remote browser.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
The page uses an unexpected typeface: Inspect the page’s CSS font-family declaration and whether its intended webfont loaded successfully. System fonts do not override a site’s font choices automatically.
-
Text is blank or shaping looks wrong: The package listings alone cannot establish the site’s font request, Chromium’s fallback behavior, webfont download success, or exact glyph shaping. Check those factors before adding more packages.
-
Capture happens before the page is ready:
Page.screenshot()does not wait for every site-specific condition. Wait for the relevant element, font, or content to be ready before taking the screenshot; the genericnetworkidle2navigation condition may not cover delayed application rendering.Rank #3

Chromium fails to launch on Ubuntu: Puppeteer’s Linux troubleshooting guidance lists common Debian/Ubuntu dependencies including
libfontconfig1and notes that some scripts need additional font files. That guidance discusses CJK examples, not a Bengali-specific install command; use it as general runtime dependency guidance, not proof of a Bengali fix. See Puppeteer troubleshooting.Quick wins for a faster PC:

ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return an image or PDF; here is a cURL example capturing the target Bengali page as WebP:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://your-bengali-site.example -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. These are ScreenshotNeo plan terms, not a guarantee that a particular site will render its Bengali text exactly as desired.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does installing Ubuntu fonts change a website’s CSS font?
No. The package makes fonts available to the browser; the site’s CSS and successfully loaded webfonts still affect which typeface is used.
Does Puppeteer’s screenshot method install missing fonts?
No. Install fonts in the browser runtime before calling page.screenshot().
