If a Puppeteer screenshot stops at the visible browser area, set the page viewport to the dimensions you want and pass fullPage: true to capture the document beyond it. If the result is still cropped, check for a clip rectangle and distinguish the page viewport from the browser window or headless screen size.
Choose the right screenshot size
These settings solve different problems. A viewport defines the page’s visible dimensions; fullPage requests a capture of the full document. A larger browser window or headless screen does not, by itself, request a full-page screenshot.

Set the viewport and take a full-page screenshot
Set the viewport before navigating when possible. Puppeteer recommends this because some websites do not expect their viewport to change size, and changing viewport properties can cause a page reload in some cases. The following example uses documented APIs; it is not a guarantee about how a particular site will render.

Diagnose a screenshot that is still cut off
Check for an accidental clip
Search the screenshot call for clip. Its x, y, width, and height define a capture region, so a clip can produce a crop even when the page is tall. Remove it if you want the full document, or adjust its bounds if a specific region is intended. Puppeteer’s captureBeyondViewport option controls whether capture can extend beyond the viewport; its documented default depends on whether clip is supplied. Check the installed version’s API documentation before changing it.
Use an element screenshot for one component
If the goal is a single element rather than the whole page, locate it and call its screenshot method:

Separate viewport, content size, and headless screen
For browser-window or content-size tasks, follow Puppeteer’s window-management guidance; it documents Page.resize() for content size and Page.setViewport(null) for removing the default viewport constraint in that context. For headless screen configuration, use the screen-configuration guidance. Puppeteer documents an 800×600 default headless screen unless a relevant switch changes it. Neither screen nor window sizing replaces fullPage: true when the requested output is the whole document.

Confirm the runtime version
Puppeteer behavior and fixes can vary by version. Record both the installed Puppeteer version and browser version, then compare with the documentation for that release. The official changelog includes historical screenshot-related fixes, including one involving defaultViewport: null after a full-page screenshot. Current API pages accessed on 2026-10-03 showed Puppeteer 25.12.0; your project may use a different version.
Common failure patterns and fixes
- Only the first screen appears: Add
fullPage: true; the documented default is false. - The image is cropped to a box: Inspect and remove or correct
clip. - The layout changes after loading: Set the intended viewport before
page.goto(), then reproduce the capture. - A component is missing because it is below the fold: Use
ElementHandle.screenshot(), which scrolls the element into view if needed. - Changing the browser screen did not produce a full-page image: Screen configuration affects a different sizing layer; request
fullPage: true. - A fix from an online example behaves differently: Check the installed Puppeteer and browser versions and consult the matching API reference and changelog.
