To remove one switch Puppeteer would otherwise add, use ignoreDefaultArgs with a list containing that switch. Avoid setting ignoreDefaultArgs: true unless you intend to remove every default argument.
What defaultArgs() does
BrowserLauncher.defaultArgs(options) takes a LaunchOptions object and returns the command-line arguments Puppeteer would use for those options. In the Node.js API, call puppeteer.defaultArgs(options) to inspect that list; it returns a promise, so use await.

Add a browser launch argument
Pass additional browser command-line switches in the args array when launching. This adds your switches while retaining Puppeteer’s defaults.

Remove a default argument selectively
When one Puppeteer default conflicts with your use case, pass its name in an ignoreDefaultArgs array. For example, this filters out --mute-audio while preserving the other defaults:

});Use the exact argument string you want filtered. This is narrower than disabling the whole default set and is the safer choice when only one switch needs to change.
When, if ever, to disable all defaults
ignoreDefaultArgs: true tells Puppeteer not to supply any of its default arguments. Puppeteer’s launch documentation cautions that those defaults are usually wanted. Removing them all can break assumptions Puppeteer makes about launching the browser, so use this only when you understand which arguments your launch requires and are supplying an appropriate replacement set.

Browser compatibility and launch setup
Puppeteer works best with its bundled Chrome for Testing version; its launch reference does not guarantee operation with other Chrome versions. If you use puppeteer-core, provide executablePath or channel. Treat custom flags and a non-bundled browser as compatibility variables: if a launch fails, first establish whether the same setup works without the custom argument, then check the browser version and executable configuration.
Troubleshoot launch-argument problems
- The browser fails after adding a switch: remove the new entry from
argsand retry. If launch succeeds, verify that the switch is supported by the selected Chrome build and that its spelling and value are valid. - Removing one default causes unexpected behavior: remove that entry from
ignoreDefaultArgsand retry. Puppeteer may rely on defaults for its expected launch configuration. - The browser fails with
ignoreDefaultArgs: true: restore defaults by deleting that setting. If you genuinely need a fully customized argument set, identify and provide the arguments your setup requires rather than assuming an empty set is sufficient. puppeteer-corecannot find or start a browser: configureexecutablePathorchannel, and verify that it points to an installed browser compatible with your Puppeteer setup.- The computed argument list is not what you expected: inspect it with
await puppeteer.defaultArgs(options), using the options relevant to your launch. Remember that this Node-facing method is asynchronous.
