Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has called for an investigation into allegations against Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) following a formal adjournment motion about the utility’s conduct in Allahabad, Chunian, in Kasur district. The allegations include overbilling, prolonged outages, an alleged bribe and misconduct during electricity-theft operations. No completed inquiry findings had been reported in the coverage available on October 2, 2026.
Why is the Punjab Assembly calling for a LESCO investigation?
A formal adjournment motion brought local complaints about LESCO to the Punjab Assembly. The motion accused the company of systemic corruption, severe overbilling, forced outages and misconduct in Allahabad, an area of Chunian in Kasur district. Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan then demanded a probe. The demand is for an investigation; it is not evidence that an inquiry has been completed or that the allegations have been proven. Dawn’s report describes the motion and the call for a probe.

What allegations were made about LESCO in Allahabad?
Reports describe several distinct complaints rather than a single billing dispute:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Alleged payment for wire removal: Dawn reported the speaker’s allegation that a LESCO official took Rs150,000 from a resident to remove high-tension wires. The report does not establish the payment as a proven finding. Dawn’s account
- Electricity-theft cases: The allegations include cases said to be false, which residents reportedly challenged using police video evidence. Dawn’s account
- Billing and supply: The motion and related reporting cite excessive bills and forced or prolonged outages. The News also reported claims of unannounced power cuts and exorbitant billing in Kasur. Dawn’s report and The News’ report
- Conduct during operations: The News reported allegations of raids, privacy violations and harassment of women. It also reported that the speaker used the phrase “electric terrorism”; this is his characterization, not an independent finding. The News’ report
Has the investigation produced findings?
The reports available on October 2, 2026, describe a demand for a probe prompted by the Assembly motion and local complaints. They do not report final investigation findings, a list of disciplined officials or a court determination. Accordingly, the complaints should be treated as allegations, not established misconduct. TechJuice likewise describes the matter as an investigation call over allegations, not a concluded inquiry. TechJuice’s report

What does NEPRA’s record show?
NEPRA’s official LESCO decisions index lists multiple 2026 proceedings under Section 39 of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 1997. The listed matters include detection bills, excessive or incorrect billing, restoration of supply and defective-meter replacement. That record shows an active stream of regulatory consumer complaints, but it does not substantiate the specific allegations made about Allahabad. NEPRA’s LESCO decisions index
