Why Igloo is winding down Abstract
Abstract cited stagnant growth, thin liquidity, a restricted decentralized-finance ecosystem, and limited institutional adoption. Its public statement, as quoted by The Block, said: “But the industry has evolved considerably since Abstract was first conceived, and operating a chain focused exclusively on consumer crypto has ultimately proven to be unsustainable as a standalone model.”

Igloo CEO Luca Netz said the company had funded the network for 18 months and described its losses as “tens of millions of dollars.” That is an imprecise characterization, not an audited total: the report provides no exact loss figure or financial statement. The reported explanation identifies the company’s reasons for the decision; it does not independently establish that any one factor caused the shutdown.
What happens to Abstract’s token plans and Igloo’s focus
Netz said Igloo decided against launching an Abstract token or pursuing an initial coin offering. The Block quoted him: “Even after losing 8 figures, we could have launched a token or pursued an ICO. Ultimately we decided against this,” and, “A token only works if there is something driving demand to it, and launching a token that we don’t have conviction in would have been a disservice to our community.”

Netz said Igloo would redirect resources to Pudgy Penguins and PENGU. The statements describe the company’s intended focus; they do not provide a separate timetable or operational plan for those projects.
