A reported case says Sony refused to register warranty coverage for a PS5 Slim bought through Swiggy Instamart because the seller named on the invoice was not an authorised Sony India dealer. That is a report about one purchase—not proof that every PS5 sold through Instamart or another quick-commerce app is ineligible. For your console, the key checks are the invoice seller, Sony’s confirmation for that seller and unit, and the purchase documents.
What happened in the reported Instamart case?
TalkEsport reported on October 2, 2026, that a buyer said they ordered a sealed PS5 Slim 1TB from Swiggy Instamart on September 27 and Sony refused warranty registration because the invoice seller was not an authorised Sony India dealer. The report named PYD Retail Pvt Ltd (Avantika) as the invoice seller, attributing that detail to PlayStationInfo. TalkEsport’s report describes the buyer’s account; the seller detail and refusal should not be treated as an independently verified Sony finding.
Digit’s coverage also recounts the buyer’s account, including the claim that Sony requested the invoice, console serial number and warranty card, and that the buyer approached the National Consumer Helpline. That is not a published decision on the complaint. No official Sony public statement about this particular order is established by the available sources.
Does Sony warranty a PS5 bought from Swiggy Instamart?
The app name alone does not determine warranty eligibility. Sony India’s published terms describe its consumer warranty as non-transferable and for the first end user who buys from a Sony Authorised Dealer. They require the original purchase invoice and warranty card for service. The company identified as the seller on your invoice therefore matters; a product appearing in a shopping app does not by itself establish that the seller is authorised.

PlayStation’s India buying guide advises buying new consoles from authorised retailers to help ensure functionality, authenticity, return policy and warranty coverage. It does not say that every sale through a marketplace or quick-commerce app is automatically excluded. Sony’s India guarantee also says Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe may refuse repair or replacement if it cannot validate warranty status and the buyer cannot provide acceptable proof of purchase. The cited Sony India warranty page is undated and general rather than a clearly dated PS5-specific warranty notice. Although reporting describes a one-year PS5 warranty, confirm the current period and eligibility for your exact model directly with Sony before relying on a duration.

How to check a PS5 seller and warranty before ordering
- Find the invoice seller. Check who will issue the tax invoice; do not assume the shopping app itself is the seller.
- Ask the seller and Sony to confirm. Request written confirmation that the named seller is authorised and that the specific PS5 SKU is eligible for Sony India warranty service. Keep the response.
- Review the return and replacement terms. Check the seller’s and platform’s terms for this listing, including any deadline that may apply if the item or documents are not as represented.
- Prefer an authorised retailer for a new console. That is PlayStation’s stated buying guidance for authenticity, return policy and warranty coverage; still retain the proof of purchase.
What to do when the PS5 arrives
- Save the records. Keep the order page, seller details, invoice, warranty card and any written assurance about warranty eligibility.
- Match the documents to the console. Compare the model and serial information on the unit with the packaging and documents where shown. Sony’s warranty information calls for the original invoice and warranty card, while PlayStation’s guarantee refers to proof of purchase and validation of warranty status.
- Verify with Sony promptly. Ask Sony support or an authorised service centre to check eligibility for the specific unit, using the invoice and model/serial details. Sony India’s Repair & Warranty page links to warranty terms, service-centre information and support routes.
If Sony refuses warranty service
- Request the reason in writing. Ask Sony to identify the relevant warranty term and explain what could not be validated. Keep the response and any case number.
- Contact the invoice seller and platform quickly. Ask what remedy is available and check any applicable return or replacement deadline. Save all messages and replies.
- Keep the complete evidence trail. Preserve the listing as it appeared when you ordered, seller identity, invoice, warranty card, console details and communications with Sony, the seller and the platform.
Sony India’s warranty terms say the warranty does not affect statutory rights under Indian law or the buyer’s rights against the dealer arising from the sale. PlayStation’s India guarantee likewise says it does not affect statutory consumer rights. Those statements distinguish the manufacturer’s warranty from other rights; they do not establish the outcome of this buyer’s complaint or guarantee a particular remedy. If you pursue a complaint, provide the purchase and support records and seek advice appropriate to your circumstances.
