The 60-hour requirement applies to a specific Sony Store Japan application for the PS5 Pro, not to every PS5 Pro purchase worldwide. To apply, a Japan-registered Sony account must show at least 60 cumulative hours played on PS5, PS4, or both between September 27, 2024 and September 27, 2026 at 23:59. That playtime window has closed, so playing now cannot make up a shortfall.
Who the 60-hour rule applies to
Sony’s condition is part of its Japan-specific application for the Japanese PlayStation 5 Pro model CFI-7100B01. It is not established as a requirement for buying a PS5 Pro from other retailers or in other markets. Sony’s official application terms are the authority for this offer; they are in Japanese.

For this application, the person applying must reside in Japan and use a Sony account registered in Japan. The account’s sign-in ID must also be unified with a My Sony ID. The same Sony account must be used for the application and, if selected, the purchase.

The hours are cumulative across PS5 and PS4. Sony’s terms do not require 60 hours on each console: qualifying playtime on either platform, or a combination of both, can reach the threshold. The time must be recorded on the Sony account used to apply.

The qualifying period ran from September 27, 2024 through September 27, 2026 at 23:59. Because that cutoff has passed, additional play after September 27 does not count toward this application.

Sony plans to choose applicants by lottery if eligible applications exceed the planned stock. A qualifying account can apply for one unit, and the right to purchase cannot be transferred. Sony also says it plans an additional draw beginning in November from eligible applicants who were not selected initially, for units that remain unpurchased.
Does meeting the requirement guarantee a PS5 Pro?
No. The 60 hours and account conditions determine whether someone may apply; they do not guarantee selection. If applications outnumber planned units, Sony uses a lottery. Anyone selected must complete online checkout by November 2, 2026 at 11:59 to secure the console.
What console the application covers
Sony lists the Japanese offer product as the PS5 Pro CFI-7100B01. The listed package includes a 2TB SSD, one DualSense wireless controller, and Astro’s Playroom pre-installed; Sony gives the Japanese retail price as ¥137,980 including tax. ITmedia’s September 28, 2026 report also gives that price and says shipping is expected from early to mid-November, but Sony’s terms control the application cutoffs.

Sony’s US PlayStation Direct listing describes the PS5 Pro as an all-digital console, with the Disc Drive sold separately. That matters when comparing what to buy, but a drive or any other accessory does not change eligibility for the Japan application.

Sony’s application page states the eligibility rules but does not explain why it selected a 60-hour threshold. Tom’s Hardware characterizes the policy as an anti-scalping measure; Sony’s terms do not state that motivation or establish that the policy will prevent scalping, increase availability, or affect resale prices.
Separately, in its September 2024 announcement, Sony said PS5 Pro had 67% more GPU compute units and 28% faster memory than the PS5 model current at the time, enabling up to 45% faster rendering. Sony also promoted advanced ray tracing and AI-driven PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Those are Sony’s specifications and performance claims, not independent benchmark results; enhanced features are available only in selected games and vary by game.
