GameStop’s surfaced listings illustrate why the configuration and quote date matter. Its standard PS5 Pro listing showed maximums of $550 in regular store credit or $385 in regular cash. A separate listing for a PS5 Pro with a disc drive installed showed $600 in regular credit or $420 in regular cash. These figures came from snapshots generated September 10, 2026, and expired at the end of that business day; they are historical examples, not current October 7 offers. For context, Sony’s U.S. recommended retail price for PS5 Pro is $899.99, effective April 2, 2026. That is a new-product benchmark, not a measure of what a used console will sell for. Sony announced the price change on March 27, 2026.

How to compare retailer offers
GameStop: compare cash and credit separately
GameStop’s trade page says its prices are valid for that day only. Full value requires the item to be in full working condition with necessary components, and trades are subject to manager approval and store availability. Bring the saved trade summary and the console’s required items, including cords, power chargers, and related accessories. Charge devices and delete personal or sensitive data before handing them over. The page’s terms say trades are final. Review GameStop’s current listing and terms.
Ask for the quote that matches your exact configuration. A listing for a console with a disc drive installed is not interchangeable with a listing for a different configuration; confirm whether the drive, controller, cables, and other required components are included.
Best Buy: treat the category maximum as a starting point
Best Buy advertises gaming-console trade-in values of up to $375, paid as a Best Buy eGift Card. That is a category maximum, not a verified PS5 Pro appraisal or proof that a particular store will accept your console. Offers depend on the device’s age and condition, required accessories, and current resale prices; participating stores can evaluate devices in person. Value store credit only as much as you can use
A higher credit figure is not automatically a better deal than cash. If the credit is restricted to one retailer or would lead you to buy something you would not otherwise purchase, discount it to reflect its practical value. Compare the amount you would actually spend against the cash offer.
How to estimate a private sale’s net proceeds
Do not treat active asking prices as evidence of what buyers are paying. Look at recently completed sales for the same PS5 Pro configuration and similar condition, and compare several relevant local listings. Include the controller, cables, disc drive, and any other items in the comparison; differences in configuration and condition can change what a buyer will pay. No reliable nationwide completed-sale figure establishes a universal used PS5 Pro price.
For an online marketplace sale, subtract the costs that reduce your payout. eBay says its fees can include an insertion fee and a final-value fee calculated as a percentage of the transaction total plus a per-order amount. Use a simple worksheet before deciding:
- Retailer cash: Write down the current quote and whether it is conditional on inspection.
- Retailer credit: Record the credit quote and the amount you realistically expect to use.
- Private-sale net: Start with comparable completed sales and subtract marketplace costs, shipping, packing, and likely dispute or return costs.
- Timing and effort: Decide how much time you can spend and when you need the money.
Choose the best net outcome that fits your timing and convenience needs. A lower cash offer can be preferable when speed and certainty matter; a private sale can make sense when the likely net premium is large enough to justify the extra work.
When a PS4 trade-in promotion is relevant
PlayStation Direct’s U.S. page advertises an extra $50 voucher toward eligible PS5 or PS5 Pro purchases after a qualifying PS4 trade-in through Back Market. It is not an offer to buy back a PS5 Pro. The page gives October 31, 2026, as the last redemption date under its stated terms and says the offer may change or be canceled.
