PS5 Pro enhanced games: what the label means and how to find supported titles

“PS5 Pro Enhanced” means a game has specific enhancements for PlayStation 5 Pro, but it does not promise one universal resolution, frame rate or visual mode. The reliable way to find supported games is PlayStation Store’s PS5 Pro Enhanced collection: on the console, open PlayStation Store > Collections > PS5 Pro Enhanced. You can also search the Store for “PS5 Pro.” Check each game’s own Store description or developer notes for the actual resolution mode, frame-rate target, ray-tracing features and image-reconstruction options.

What the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label actually tells you

The label is a compatibility signal from Sony and participating developers. It identifies a game associated with improvements on PS5 Pro compared with the standard PS5 experience. It is not a technical certification that fixes one resolution, one frame rate or one visual preset for every title.

Sony’s November 2024 PS5 Pro launch announcement described several possible forms of enhancement: advanced ray tracing, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), and 60Hz or 120Hz frame rates when the connected television supports the required refresh rate. Those are examples of what a developer may implement, not a checklist every enhanced game must satisfy.

Two games carrying the same badge can therefore make different trade-offs. One might use extra graphics quality while targeting a particular performance mode; another might concentrate on ray-traced effects or image reconstruction. The Store badge tells you to investigate further, not which mode to select or what number to expect.

Why there is no single “enhanced” specification

PS5 Pro enhancements are implemented at the game level. A developer decides which rendering features, output modes and performance targets to support, and the game’s Store page or developer documentation is the place to find those details. Sony’s general announcement establishes the kinds of improvements that are possible, but it does not publish a side-by-side specification for every title.

Your display is part of the result. A game can offer a 120Hz mode only when the television and connection can accept that refresh rate. A higher-quality output mode may likewise depend on the display’s supported resolution. The badge remains useful even when your television cannot show every available option, because it still indicates that the title has PS5 Pro-specific work behind it.

What kinds of improvements can appear

Advanced ray tracing

Ray tracing simulates how light reflects, refracts and shadows in a scene. On PS5 Pro, Sony has identified advanced ray tracing as one possible enhancement category. In a particular game, that could mean more detailed reflections, more accurate shadows or a wider use of ray-traced effects. The badge alone does not state which effect is enabled, how often it appears or whether it is tied to a named graphics mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Look for a game-specific description that names ray tracing and explains whether it is available in a quality mode, a performance mode or another selectable option. If the Store page does not provide that information, treat the presence of the badge as confirmation of support, not proof of a particular ray-tracing implementation.

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)

PSSR is Sony’s image-reconstruction technology and is another enhancement Sony mentioned for PS5 Pro. Reconstruction can use a lower internal rendering resolution to produce a sharper final image, but the exact implementation is decided by each game. A title may use PSSR in one mode, several modes or not mention the technology publicly even while carrying the enhanced designation.

Do not convert a reference to PSSR into a guaranteed native resolution. Reconstructed output and native rendering are different techniques, and only the game’s own technical description can tell you what it is targeting.

Frame-rate targets and television refresh

Sony’s launch material cites 60Hz and 120Hz possibilities, with the available result depending on the television. “60Hz” and “120Hz” describe display refresh targets; they do not by themselves tell you the game’s internal rendering resolution or whether every scene maintains the target. A Store listing may specify a mode or target, while another title may provide less detail.

Before buying a display for one badge, check the title’s description and your television’s documented input capabilities. If the television cannot accept a 120Hz signal, that particular output option cannot be used, even though the game remains PS5 Pro Enhanced.

Does PS5 Pro Enhanced mean 8K?

No. Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guide says the console can support up to 8K in select games and directs readers to the PlayStation Store for details. “Up to 8K” is therefore a platform capability for particular titles, not a promise that every game in the enhanced collection renders or outputs at 8K.

An 8K-capable display is also required to see an 8K output, and the game must specifically support that mode. The badge alone cannot establish either condition. When 8K matters to your setup, look for an explicit 8K statement on the individual game page and confirm that your television and cable path support the signal you intend to use.

For most purchasing decisions, compare the title’s stated modes instead of treating 8K as a shorthand for image quality. A game may prioritize a stable performance target, ray-traced effects or reconstruction at a lower output resolution. Those are separate decisions from whether an 8K mode exists.

How to find the current supported-game collection

Use the collection on the console

  1. From the PS5 Pro home screen, open PlayStation Store.
  2. Move to the Collections tab.
  3. Select the PS5 Pro Enhanced banner.
  4. Open an individual game page and read its description for the title-specific modes and features.

This collection is Sony’s recommended discovery route. Store collections are dynamic, so the titles shown can change as games receive support or as Sony reorganizes the Store. A list copied from a launch article should not be treated as a permanent catalogue.

Search the Store when the banner is hard to find

PlayStation support also recommends searching the Store for “PS5 Pro”. Use the search result to reach the game page, then verify that the page identifies the title as enhanced and read the current description. Searching is useful when the Collections layout differs by region, account or Store update.

Use the live Store category, not an old screenshot

The official category is named PS5 Pro Enhanced Games. Because it is a live Store collection, its membership is the practical source of truth for what Sony is currently grouping under the label. A dated article, video or screenshot can still be useful historical context, but it cannot establish the present catalogue.

If a game appears in an older list but not in the current collection, check the game’s own Store page and the developer’s current information before assuming that support has been removed or that the old list was complete. The collection’s contents can evolve independently of third-party lists.

How to read an enhanced game’s Store page

Once you open a title, separate the general badge from the details that affect your setup. Record the information in the following order:

What to check Why it matters Where to look
Enhanced designation Confirms that Sony associates the title with PS5 Pro improvements. The game’s Store page and the PS5 Pro Enhanced collection.
Resolution or output modes Shows whether the title names a specific output, reconstruction method or an 8K option. Store description and developer technical notes.
Frame-rate target Indicates whether a 60Hz or 120Hz display mode is discussed and what television capability is needed. Game description, mode selector notes or developer information.
Ray-tracing features Explains which lighting, reflections or shadows receive extra processing. Title-specific feature list.
Performance and quality choices Helps you understand whether the game trades visual effects for a performance target or offers separate presets. Store wording and any in-game documentation identified by the developer.

Do not fill in an unstated value from another game. If a listing says only “PS5 Pro Enhanced” and gives no frame-rate or resolution number, the correct conclusion is that the title is supported but its detailed target is not stated on that page.

What Sony’s launch announcement did—and did not—count

On November 4, 2024, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a launch sample for the PS5 Pro’s November 7 release. The announcement said there were more than 50 games with PS5 Pro enhancements at launch. It explicitly presented that figure as a sample rather than a complete or permanent catalogue.

Named examples included Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The announcement’s wording is useful because it describes the scope at that date, but it should not be quoted as Sony’s current count. Tim Turi, Content Communications Manager at Sony Interactive Entertainment, wrote: “This list is a sample of more than 50 games boasting PS5 Pro enhancements at launch, with many more to follow.”

That dated context explains why online lists can disagree. One list may reflect the launch sample, another a later Store snapshot, and neither necessarily matches the collection you see now. For a current purchase, use the live Store collection and the individual title page.

A practical method for comparing two enhanced games

If you are choosing between supported titles, compare like with like rather than ranking the badge itself. Use the same display and the same priorities for both games.

  1. Confirm current support. Check that each title appears in the current Store collection or is identified as PS5 Pro Enhanced on its Store page.
  2. Write down explicit numbers. Record any stated output resolution, 8K support, 60Hz or 120Hz target and reconstruction technology. Mark values as “not stated” when the listing provides no number.
  3. Separate visual features from speed. Note ray-tracing claims independently from frame-rate claims. A title can emphasize one without promising the other.
  4. Match the information to your television. A 120Hz mode is relevant only if the display accepts 120Hz; an 8K mode is relevant only with an 8K-capable display and an explicit game support statement.
  5. Check the developer’s explanation. If the Store description is brief, use the developer information linked or referenced on the title page to clarify which mode contains the enhancement.

This approach prevents a common mistake: assuming that a more prominent marketing description means a higher universal specification. The meaningful comparison is the set of modes each developer actually documents.

Keep the PS4 image-quality option separate

PS5 Pro has a different feature called Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games. It is not the same as browsing the PS5 Pro Enhanced collection and does not turn a PS4 game into a PS5 Pro Enhanced title.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where to find the PS4 setting

  1. Open Settings on the console.
  2. Select Screen and Video.
  3. Choose Video Output.
  4. Find Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games and adjust it for compatible PS4 software.

Requirements and limitation

PlayStation support says this option is available only for PS4 games played on CFI-7000 model-group consoles. The connected display must support 2160p or 1440p output at 60Hz. Those requirements apply to the PS4 image-quality setting, not to the Store’s PS5 Pro Enhanced label.

Sony advises turning the setting off if you encounter unexpected gameplay behavior. If you are troubleshooting a PS4 title, first identify whether the issue involves this setting; changing Store filters will not alter how the PS4 option operates.

Why an enhancement may not be obvious on your setup

  • The game is supported, but the listing is general. The badge confirms an association with PS5 Pro; it may not describe a single visible effect. Read the title-specific notes before judging the result.
  • Your television cannot use a particular mode. Sony’s 60Hz and 120Hz references depend on the display. A television without the required refresh capability cannot show that mode.
  • You are expecting 8K from the badge. The compatibility guide limits 8K support to select games. Look for an explicit 8K statement rather than inferring it from the label.
  • You are comparing different modes. A game may offer separate performance and visual-quality choices. Compare the same named mode when reading developer specifications.
  • You are looking at a dated list. The November 2024 “more than 50” figure described a launch sample. Use the current Store collection for present membership.
  • You are troubleshooting a PS4 game. The Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games setting has its own model and display requirements and should be considered separately.

A quick checklist before you buy or install

  1. Open PlayStation Store and check Collections > PS5 Pro Enhanced, or search for “PS5 Pro.”
  2. Open the specific game page rather than relying on a badge-only list.
  3. Write down the title’s stated resolution, reconstruction, frame-rate and ray-tracing details.
  4. Confirm that your television supports the refresh rate or resolution required by the mode you want.
  5. Treat 8K as a select-game capability, not a property of every enhanced title.
  6. Use developer information when the Store description leaves a specification unstated.
  7. For PS4 software, check the separate image-quality setting, CFI-7000 requirement and 2160p/1440p-at-60Hz display requirement.

The most accurate interpretation is simple: PS5 Pro Enhanced identifies supported games, while each game’s own documentation tells you what the support does. Sony’s live Store collection is the best starting point for the current set of titles; the badge alone is not an 8K, 120Hz or guaranteed-resolution promise.
