Two newly surfaced Sony wireless certifications have given PlayStation fans a reason to speculate about an upgraded Portal. The records identify Sony gaming-device models CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105, but they do not name either one as a PlayStation Portal or reveal its screen, performance, price, or release date. An enhanced Portal remains a theory, not a confirmed product.
What the new Sony certifications actually show
The Wi-Fi Alliance lists CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105 as Sony Interactive Entertainment products. Both records are dated September 21, 2026, name the products “Computer Entertainment System,” and place them in the Gaming, Media & Music category and Gaming Console/Peripherals sub-category.

The certificates list Android 15 and wireless operation in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. They do not list 6 GHz Wi-Fi. More importantly, neither record names the PlayStation Portal, specifies a display, or gives battery, price, or launch information.

Why fans are connecting the dots
The connection is understandable: these are newly registered Sony gaming devices, and both model numbers begin with CFI-Y. But the certificates do not explain what the models are or whether the two numbers represent different products, regional versions, or hardware variants. Their existence is evidence of certified Sony devices—not evidence that Sony has certified a Portal successor.

Where the OLED and 120 Hz rumor fits
In January 2026, Tom’s Guide reported a claim from leaker Zuby_Tech that Sony might make a “Portal Pro” with an OLED screen and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The report said Sony had not announced a refresh and that no price or timeline was known. The later Wi-Fi Alliance records do not confirm that rumor or connect CFI-Y2000 or CFI-Y2105 to it. Until Sony identifies the devices, “OLED Portal,” “Portal Pro,” and “successor” are speculation.
How the certified devices compare with the current Portal
Sony’s current PlayStation Portal product page specifies an 8-inch LCD with a 1080p screen capable of up to 60 frames per second. That is the confirmed baseline for the product Sony currently describes; it does not establish the specifications or identity of either newly certified model.

The current Portal has received software improvements
A newer-sounding feature does not necessarily mean new hardware. In March 2026, Sony added a selectable 1080p High Quality mode for Remote Play and Cloud Streaming on the existing Portal. Sony says the mode uses a higher bitrate than the default 1080p Standard mode. The update also included interface and usability changes; it does not establish that a new screen or hardware revision exists. Sony’s update post describes the change as: “Players can now select a 1080p High Quality mode during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming.”

In the same period, Sony said over 50% of Portal users were PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. These are Sony-reported figures, not independent market estimates, and they describe usage rather than sales or the identity of the certified models.

What Portal owners can do with the device today
Sony describes the Portal as a way to stream games over Wi-Fi. It supports Remote Play from a PS5, which Sony says does not require PlayStation Plus, as well as cloud streaming; Sony specifies PlayStation Plus Premium for cloud streaming. The newly certified devices’ Android and Wi-Fi details do not change those requirements or establish that either model has those features.
If you are deciding whether to buy the current Portal, assess it on its officially stated LCD screen and existing streaming features—not on the possibility of an unannounced upgrade. The certificates do not establish that a new Portal is available or that one is coming.
What would confirm an enhanced Portal
A Sony product announcement that identifies one of these model numbers as a Portal would settle the central question. If Sony announces a refresh or multiple variants, the useful details to compare will be the screen technology and refresh rate, wireless capabilities, battery and ergonomics, compatibility with Remote Play and cloud streaming, price, and whether the current LCD Portal remains on sale. None of those differences is established by the certificates alone.
