For most people, PC is the more defensible choice for PS3 emulation. The official RPCS3 project documents Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD, while Android support appears in a separate experimental project whose repository is archived and marked discontinued. That difference matters more than online claims that a particular phone can run a particular game.
There is no controlled, same-game Android-versus-PC benchmark in the available project material, so a universal speed ranking would be misleading. Your result depends on the exact game ID and release, emulator build, device or computer, graphics driver, and configuration. This guide shows how to make that decision without confusing an old Android port with current desktop support.

Android and PC are not equivalent RPCS3 targets
The first question is not “Which platform is faster?” It is “Which platform has current, documented support for the software I want to use?” On that measure, PC has the clearer path.

What the official project documents
The official RPCS3 README lists Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD as supported desktop platforms. Android is not listed there. Android appears instead in a separate RPCS3-Android repository that describes itself as experimental and discontinued. Its status statement is explicit: “This project is discontinued. Alpha-7 is last release”. That is a statement about that repository, not a verdict on every Android PS3 emulator that may exist.

An archived port can still be useful as historical software, but its existence does not establish current maintenance, compatibility, security, performance, or support for a newer phone. Treating it as equivalent to the actively documented desktop project is the central mistake to avoid.

The table does not mean every PC game works or that every Android attempt fails. It shows where the evidence is strong: current desktop documentation and per-release compatibility checking.

No reviewed source supplies a controlled comparison in which the same PS3 game, game release, emulator build, settings, and workload were tested on Android and PC. Without those controls, a claim such as “PC is twice as fast” or “this class of phone runs PS3 games” would be speculation.

- Game workload: Different games stress the emulator’s CPU, graphics translation, memory, and synchronization paths in different ways.
- Exact release: A disc release and a digital release can have different game IDs and different compatibility behavior.
- Emulator build: A result from an old Android alpha cannot be generalized to a current desktop build, and an unverified newer Android app cannot be assumed to inherit desktop improvements.
- Hardware and drivers: Two PCs or two phones with similar headline specifications can behave differently because of architecture, thermal limits, graphics drivers, and sustained clock speeds.
- Configuration: Resolution, graphics backend, patches, frame-rate settings, and other options can change both speed and correctness.
How to perform a fair personal comparison
If you need an answer for one game rather than a platform-wide verdict, document the test so that the result is meaningful:
- Identify the exact game ID and whether your copy is a disc or digital release. Use the RPCS3 compatibility list entry for that release rather than searching only by title.
- Record the emulator build on each platform. Do not compare an unidentified Android package with a dated or unofficial PC executable.
- Record the computer or Android device model, operating-system version, graphics driver version, resolution, frame-rate limit, and relevant emulator settings.
- Use the same game section and workload on both systems. A title screen or menu is not comparable to a busy gameplay scene.
- Measure sustained behavior, not a brief burst after launch. Note slowdowns, audio problems, crashes, graphical corruption, and input delay as separate outcomes from frame rate.
- Repeat after changing one variable at a time. Otherwise, a faster result may simply reflect a different resolution, build, or setting.
Keep the conclusion narrow: “This game ID on this build and hardware behaved this way.” That is useful evidence; it is not a universal Android-versus-PC ranking.

Compatibility is tied to the game ID and release
RPCS3’s compatibility list is organized by game ID. The list represents disc and digital versions separately, so a title-level search is only the beginning. Two releases carrying the same commercial name should not be assumed to have identical behavior.
What to check before installing anything
- Find the identifier for your exact release.
- Check the corresponding entry in the RPCS3 compatibility list.
- Read the status and notes for that entry, including known issues or required workarounds.
- Confirm that the entry applies to your region or release variant when the list distinguishes them.
- Record the build associated with any report you rely on; an older report may not describe current behavior.
A favorable result for one release does not prove that another release of the same title will boot, render correctly, or maintain playable speed. Conversely, a problem with one game ID does not establish that every game on the platform is incompatible.

The archived Android project does not provide the same current, official compatibility path established by the desktop documentation. Its historical release should therefore be treated as an experiment with unknown coverage, not as a supported Android edition of RPCS3. The reviewed material does not establish which current Android devices, operating-system versions, or games work reliably, and it does not validate a successor project.
PC setup: the documented route
Use the current RPCS3 project documentation as the authority because requirements and setup details can change. The project directs users to its Quickstart for computer requirements and recommends using the official current build with up-to-date graphics drivers.
Step 1: Check the current Quickstart
Open the RPCS3 Quickstart and review the requirements for your operating system and intended games. Do not copy old hardware lists from forum posts into a buying decision; the project’s current guidance is the relevant reference.

Step 2: Install an official current build
Obtain RPCS3 from the project’s official distribution channel and note the version number. Avoid an unidentified repack or a build whose source and date you cannot verify. Keeping the version recorded makes later troubleshooting possible.
Step 3: Update the graphics driver
Install the latest graphics driver appropriate for your computer before diagnosing rendering or performance problems. The official support guidance specifically recommends up-to-date drivers. A driver update is not a promise of a particular frame rate, but it removes a common source of avoidable incompatibility.
Step 4: Add and identify the game release

Step 7: Test one game ID and keep notes
Launch one title, test a representative gameplay scene, and record the build, driver, settings, and symptoms. If the game fails, those details give you a reproducible starting point for the project’s support documentation.
Android setup: why old instructions are risky
The reviewed RPCS3-Android repository is archived and says the project is discontinued, with Alpha-7 as its last release. Because of that status, its old requirements and installation steps should not be presented as current Android advice.
If you are evaluating the historical port
- Verify that the package really corresponds to the archived project and identify its release version.
- Read the repository’s status and limitations before installing; “experimental” and “discontinued” are material warnings, not minor footnotes.
- Do not infer support for a current Android version or device from a result reported on older hardware.
- Check your exact game ID and release, but expect less complete and less current evidence than the desktop compatibility list provides.

The responsible conclusion from this evidence is limited: an archived Android port existed and reached a final Alpha-7 release. It does not establish a maintained Android RPCS3 product or a dependable list of phones that can run PS3 games.

Choose PC when documentation and repeatability matter
- You want a platform named in the official RPCS3 README.
- You need current Quickstart guidance and a documented update path.
- You want to check a specific game ID against an actively maintained compatibility resource.
- You plan to troubleshoot with reproducible build, driver, and configuration information.
- You want the documented flexibility of up to seven concurrent controllers and mixed input types.
Consider Android only as an unsupported experiment
- You accept that the reviewed Android project is discontinued.
- You are prepared for incomplete, release-specific compatibility information.
- You will not treat a successful launch as proof that other games or newer devices will work.
- You can tolerate troubleshooting without the same current official setup path available on PC.
Portability may be attractive, but portability alone does not supply maintenance, compatibility data, or predictable performance. Those are separate requirements.

The game does not appear or the wrong release is listed
Recheck the game ID and release type. The compatibility list separates disc and digital versions, so a title-only search can point you to the wrong entry. Confirm that the installed build recognizes the same identifier you researched.

The game boots but has severe graphics problems
On PC, first verify that you are using an official current build and an up-to-date graphics driver, then return to the current Quickstart and the game-specific compatibility notes. Record the exact build and changed settings before trying another adjustment. On Android, remember that the reviewed port is discontinued; do not assume a graphics fault has a documented modern fix.
Performance is inconsistent
Separate short-term speed from sustained behavior. Record the game ID, emulator build, hardware, driver, resolution, settings, and scene. On a phone, thermal behavior and device-specific limitations can change results over time; the available evidence does not support predicting those results for a broad device category.
